Chapter 497: Revenge

Xiang Yu suddenly found himself reliving the memory.

His heart raced as he stood at the altar, the intricate veil of silk masking his identity. He was willing to do anything to impress his mother thus he was not the groom here but a stand-in. Instead of his sister, the rightful bride, he was playing the role of Han Xin’s intended. It was a cruel sacrifice to appease the his adopted mother, the overseer.

As the veil lifted, revealing Xiang Yu striking features, Han Xin felt a surge of anger and betrayal. At that moment, the dagger hidden beneath the folds of his ceremonial attire found its mark. With a swift motion, Xiang Yu lunged forward, drawn to strike his throat but the blade only grazed Han Xin’s cheek. He had underestimated the sheer force that lay behind his adversary’s calm face.

In a flash, the tables turned. Han Xin grabbed Xiang Yu’s wrist, twisting it until the dagger clattered to the ground. The two men struggled, bodies colliding like titans beneath the glaring sun.

Behind them, a fierce battle erupted. Xiang Yu’s men fought valiantly against Han Xin’s forces, but one by one they fell, consumed by the chaos and bloodlust.

Xiang Yu gasped, feeling Han Xin’s grip tighten around his throat. A gun pressed hard against the back of his neck, the cold steel a grim reminder of how quickly the tide had turned. In the whirlwind of violence, Xiang Yu watched helplessly as his loyal men succumbed to the Emirites, their blood staining the sands crimson.

"Why don’t you just end me?" Xiang Yu growled, his voice thick with defiance as fury surged within him.

Before he could react, Han Xin shoved him violently to the ground. Logically he should have accepted defeat but he didn’t want to disappoint his another. He rose again, fists clenched, and the two men clashed, exchanging blows that sent shockwaves of pain reverberating between them. Blood filled the air, thick and metallic. The scent hung heavy like smoke.

But it was Xiang Yu who faltered first. A sharp pain radiated from his abdomen as he felt the cold bite of steel sink into his flesh. He staggered back, a pained gasp escaping his lips as he tumbled to the ground. He found himself hurled out of the Emirites’ city, along with a handful of his injured men.

The desert stretched before them, a vast emptiness riddled with danger. This though was the least of their worries as something even worse happened. The ground trembled under the thunderous charge of a feral beast. It raced toward them with the ferocity of a storm, catching them off guard.

Xiang Yu felt the vehicle lurch. A violent jolt sent them careening off a cliff, the world tipping into chaos as the car rolled down, colliding violently with stone and sand. They landed with a brutal thud, the air thick with dust and disarray.

Then came the beast. It swarmed, teeth glinting in the fading light, attacking with brutal efficiency. One by one, his companions fell to the carnage, their cries swallowed by the relentless hunger of the creature.

Xiang Yu fought back, rage fueling his every strike. He fought the beast, refusing to surrender. But as the blood loss dulled his senses, his legs buckled beneath him, collapsing against the harsh ground.

The ravagers arrived like vultures to a carcass, drawn by the carnage left in the wake of the battle. They moved swiftly, scavenging the remnants of Xiang Yu’s group and stealing their possessions.

Han Xin’s problems didn’t end there though. It was only the beginning of his problems. He now bore the title of public enemy number one. Whispers like selfish, barbaric and savage spread across the continent.

The Alliance wanted him dead, and a bounty sat on his head like a dark cloud. They hunted him relentlessly, but he had survived their onslaught. However, victory came at a terrible price. Many of his loyal followers had perished in the chaos, their blood staining the ground he had sworn to protect.

As more of his people died and his resources becoming scarce, Han Xin was left with few options. Just when he was cornered, a request for a resolution reached his ears. I opportunity to meet with the overseer, a was a chance to negotiate peace for the sake of his remaining people. He didn’t trust the alliance but he still seized the opportunity.

The palace loomed ahead, an ominous silhouette against the twilight. When they met, the overseer smiled, but the glint in her eyes was far from friendly. Instead of the dialogue he had hoped for, she ruthlessly tossed him into a pit below her palace that had zombies. The darkness enveloped him, chilling and oppressive.

The overseer believed this was the end, that he would be consumed by the creatures lurking in the depths. But Han Xin had a plan. As he fell, he injected himself with a syringe filled with the zombie virus he had engineered. This was his last desperate bid for revenge.

The virus was born from the energy sources of his territory, a lethal creation that transformed the infected into fearsome undead. He had also made arrangements, sneaking those loyal to him into the city. If he failed to return, they were instructed to poison the city’s water and air with the virus. The countdown had begun as he let the darkness wash over him.

Within a day, pandemonium erupted in the city above. Screams filled the air as chaos spilt into the streets. Han Xin crawled from the pit, reborn in hunger and rage. His body pulsed with the energy of the undead, and he willed the zombies to rise, summoning them like a dark tide.

He emerged in the grand hall of the overseer’s palace, an ethereal spectre of vengeance. The overseer sat on her throne, her eyes wide as she watched the city burn. Han Xin approached her, a blend of triumph and fury coursing through him.

He seized her by the arm and dragged her to the window. Her fear was palpable as he dangled her over the edge, the teeth of the undead now almost at her heels. Below, the horde of zombies swarmed as they abandoned their prior meals, excitement crackling in the air. They clamoured over one another, desperate for blood.

"Look outside," Han Xin hissed, his voice a low growl. "This is your legacy."

With a flick of his wrist, he let her slip free. The overseer’s terrified scream pierced the chaos as she was pulled down into the hungry mass. Limbs flailed, and the undead tore her apart, his revenge served in the most gruesome glory.
