Chapter 416: Temperament of A Hero

The coveting eyes of the enemies.

The internal problems that could be incited.

Aeryon did not yet dare to summon such a large army unless he manage to unite half of the Steppe.

But Aeryon had never done that and basically manage to balance between the ends of the military and the needs of the government.

Hence, the chief under him is satisfied, and the people under him is happy.

The cities needs people to work and the army needs people to fight and Aeryon is the few rulers in the Great Steppe who manage to balance it and let the people under him to live not so harsh of a life.

Valgrun also prioritizes quality.

But the way he goes about it is quite different from how Aeryon went about it. Those who survive would become elite units and those who died would be honoured.

And then on that day, Valgrun called upon Ashana Zad to perform rain calling

Ashana Zad uses the Weather Stone to call upon rain.

From morning to night, rai fall endlessly. But there is no storm, and.....there is no flood. Bolghar forces is at guard but they never would have expected that the attack had already begun

And then when the next day came, Valgrun and Ota both went into battle. To the eyes of the Bolghar forces this is him wanting to fight the decisive battle

They fight and both at first seems to have even force in the battlefield.

But then Valgrun forces appears to be losing and begin retreating in an orderly manner.

However, even though at times it appears like Khagai forces is about to lose, then they would win

There is this stalemate

Risen and repeat this a few times until finally Bolgharu believe that there is no ambush and finally they are lured by Valgrun forces into the valley

Why?

Because unlike Mayeux plan, Valgrun slowly let his forces evacuate the valley.

When he loses, Valgrun retreated.

What seems to be advantage for Mayeux and Bolgharu is actually a trap by Valgrun.

If Mayeux was here, he would insist in taking the valley and never letting go.

Because his plan hinges in the possession of the valley many hills.

But Valgrun plan requires the valley to be in Bolgharu hands so that they could station their archers their horsemen, their warriors there

Valgrun is also smart enough not to just give the valley.

Because if he started gifting the enemy strategic terrain, then surely even the stupidest chief could deduce that there is a trap somewhere.

But no one would ever think that it is a trap because the strategy he wanted to pull of is so absurd that no one would ever imagine it.

Clearly, the Bolghar forces believe that since they are already in the valley, the initiative and even the advantage is on their side

The narrow confines of the valley made them vulnerable, if the Khagai forces manage to take it and force them to fight in a melee fight but Bolgharu believed his forces were superior in number.

And Valgrun never intended to retake back the valley. Instead, from the moment the last area of the valley is lost, he smiles and he laugh

The valley will be the graveyard of the Bolghar forces.

Once the Bolghar army was fully committed and engaged in battle, Valgrun gave the signal.

Ota at this time has already retreated. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

But they did not retreat far away.

Instead, Ota and a small team of warriors, stationed themselves upstream

This upstream is created by human power. Horses drags up mud, and stones to create this area

And it is fragile.

When the signal is given Ota removed the barriers holding back the water. Another smash the small opening and the water rushes out

The force of the released water surged down the valley, flooding the land, upturning bushes, bringing the sand, the soil, the grass with it

The moment the floodwaters were released, chaos erupted across the valley.

The Bolghar warriors, heavily entrenched and confident in their numerical advantage, had been focused entirely on the battle ahead.

They were chasing the Khagai forces.

They were caught completely off guard as the roar of rushing water thundered through the valley like a monstrous beast.

At this time no matter whether you are riding a horse or not did not matter

How could one overrun such a fast-rushing torrent of water?

No one expect it and no one could escape it

At first, it was a distant sound, a rumble that confused the Bolghar forces.

Some turned to look, their eyes widening in disbelief as they saw a wall of water barrelling down from the stream.

Shouts of alarm spread like wildfire, but it was too late.

The flood surged forward with incredible force, sweeping away anything in its path.

The ground beneath the Bolghar army turned to thick mud in an instant.

Horses neighed in panic, their hooves sinking deep, unable to move.

Warriors who tried to run found themselves trapped; their boots sucked into the mire. Others lost their footing entirely, falling into the cold, churning water.

The floodwaters carried debris—logs, rocks, and uprooted vegetation—that smashed through the Bolghar lines.

Shields and spears were ripped from hands, and the tightly packed formation of the Bolghar warriors disintegrated.

Leaders shouted orders, but their voices were drowned out by the roar of the water and the screams of their men.

Bolgharu himself, perched on a slight rise, watched in stunned disbelief as his army fell into disarray.

His war drums, once beating with pride, were now silenced as the musicians fled or were swept away.

The valley that had seemed like a secure battleground now became a death trap.

From some reports of the defeated warriors that was by Bolgharu side at that time, Bolgharu look at the scene in front of his eyes and he only shakes his head and then looking at the sky, he laugh and he cry

"The Skyfather has abandoned me!" that is his last words before he too was drowned by the water.

Amid the chaos, Khagai warriors, stationed on the high ground, launched their attack.

Arrows rained down on the struggling Bolghar, who were unable to defend themselves and who was being sweep away by the current.

Those who tried to climb the slopes found their movements hampered by the mud and the weight of their soaked clothing.

The Khagai descended with war cries, cutting down the disorganized Bolghar with ruthless efficiency.

Ota, still bloodied from his earlier battle with the Iron Shields, led the charge.

He moved through the chaos with the precision of a predator, cutting down any Bolghar who tried to rally.

The flood had done most of the work, and the Khagai ensured there would be no recovery.

By the time the waters began to recede, the valley was littered with broken bodies, shattered weapons, and the cries of the defeated.

The victory was complete. Valgrun won the battle beautifully, the Ashana Zad prophecy is fulfilled and the West.....the West is settled!

...

The battle in the west is over, the Brolgadhr envoys and messengers are sent back home to bring the news of victory over to the Kan.

Valgrun himself said that it would take him a moon before he could reorganize the army.

This month, he would not only reorganize the army, he would also hunt any loyalist forces toward the Bolghar forces, pacified the surrendered tribe and clans and take control of the area and assure the western border tribe that this is an internal war

A moon later, he and his tribe would attack Toghrul as he believes the Toghrul tribe would not remain silent after the defeat of the Bolghar tribe.

Not many tribe would remain silent after Bolghar tribe falls. New alliances needs to be made but he also promised to Aeryon that unless Aeryon allows it, he would not make any alliances

This message shows that Valgrun is truly and sincerely deferring to Aeryon

Then how to proceed after that, he would leave it to the Kan to decide

Aeryon is in his tent right now still reading the report of the Khagai victory and he shakes his head with a smile

"What a brilliant strategy!" Aeryon could not help but keep praising Valgrun method. Aeryon thought of a lot of strategy but flooding the valley is not something he even think of

Because he did not think it is possible.

Then he reads about Valgrun words and he narrows his eyes

"Sincerely submitting....or biding his time. Wanting to be the Kan of the West or wanting to be a pioneer under me? Which future you are looking at and which future is aligned to your heart?" Aeryon thought of this question and laughs

Then he chuckles

Whether Valgrun has such thought or not, does not matter. Aeryon judges people by their deeds not by what they think.

Trust is something fragile.

But it is also something that is powerful.

It is quite magical.....trust is

He did not know why he trusted Valgrun that he even let his men to aid him. He knows the danger of trusting too much.

But he also has this kind of generosity that made people admire him

A temperament of a hero.

Love and hate like a hero
