Way of Overlord-Chapter 481: Parallel
Chapter 481: Parallel
Even though Mayeux never heard of Garron evaluation of Ogura, it is very ironic that these two people share the same evaluation of Ogura.
"Unable to hide the sharp edges and unable to restrain himself. He did not have a strong foundation and having this kind of trait, this is nothing but a path to ruin" he mutters.
Mayeux could see the fate of the Utgard tribe just like how Garron could see it.
But this in itself is amazing.
Garron could see the future of his tribe under Ogura because he knows Ogura closely.
But Mayeux knows Ogura only from reports from his spies but he could still make this kind of judgement.
Ogura is unfit to rule and he would eventually lead Utgard to chaos. Even now, there is probably all kinds of chaos in Utgard territory right now.
This is why he wanted Aeryon to stay out of Utgard. The power struggle in Utgard creates an opportunity.
If Aeryon had saved Garron, then how could he exploit this opportunity. It is fortunate even though Aeryon wanted to save Garron, in the end Garron died anyway.
It is true that if fate and destiny wanted you to die, you would still die.
"Now , with Ogura on the helm, the difficulty lowers" Mayeux mutters to himself. He takes a sip of the Ayrag and feel the warmth filling his body
One of the reason why he did not want Aeryon to help Garron is simply because of Garron competence. Garron had taken Rudya and given enough time he could pacify that region
One day, if Aeryon wanted to move west, Garron would have an advantage.
If he surrenders, that would be the best but Mayeux had long seen Garron character.
That is not a character that is willing to surrender meekly. An old hero who is cunning.
If he did not want to surrenderer, Garron has many choices.
Pacifying the Utgard and then create a region that is strong in defense would not be hard for Garron.
He just need to make allies with Sordkazan to the East, an alliance with Dayan on the North and if they wanted to step it up further, they could even make an alliance with Dama on the East and let the two overlords fight each other while he reaps the benefit
Would Garron do that when his daughter is married to Aeryon?
Nobody knows.
But Mayeux believe that there is a great possibility that could happen.
Garron position always changes depending on his strength and weakness. If he is weak, he would go with the flow.
If he is strong, he would have many thoughts and schemes
Fortunately, enough, right now, Garron is dead. Utgard conquered regiosn like Rudya is not pacified.
And with Ogura just taking his seat in Utgard main settlement, the Rudya region probably would rebel.
Because Ogura might promised them benefits to follow him in his rebellion, but knowing Ogura, that is a person who wanted control.
Mayeux did not yet get the report about Ogura machinations to escape the area of Rudya and ride to Utgard but Mayeux could guess that Ogura must have used the tactics of uniting the discontent to strike on the majority.
And to unite such discontented forces he needs to promise something.
If there is a promise that these forces would accept, it might the restoration of the area of Rudya.
But Ogura might promised them at that time as an expediency measure but once he sits on the chief seat, he probably would renege on that promise.
"Divided and unstable." This is Mayeux assessment of Utgard right now and there is a smile on his face.
A united Utgard is not a force that Aeryon could look down upon and it would be a hard bone to chew in the future.
Of course, at that time, if Aeryon controlled the west, a small tribe like Utgard, even if they managed to pacify Rudya would still pale in comparison.
But knowing Garron, if he was in that situation, he probably would manage to broker and alliance with Dama if he play his card right and become the middleman between Esbizuk and Brolgadhr tribe
"Now the situation is good" A divided and unstable Utgard tribe is far easier for Aeryon to conquer in the future.
Aeryon could even conquer it piece by piece.
Slowly and methodically. If that could happen that would be the best.
When the time is right, Utgard could be taken with the least resistance and with the highest support.
But the most important reason on why Mayeux is happy that Garron is dead is because he could not trust Garron at all
Aeryon trust Garron while being cautious but Mayeux had never trusted that Viper even when they sign an alliance.
Knowing Garron, if he had survived this obstacle, his control over Utgard becomes even more stronger.
And he might even later turned on Aeryon
A man like this changes his position when different circumstances happens. It is like weeds blowing by the wind, following where the wind blows and could not be as steadfast as mountain when it is about honouring promises
Mayeux viewed Garron as the biggest political wild cards in the region. So, jhow could he not be happy when he is removed.
He is an unreliable ally. That is Mayeux assessment of Garron. A wildcard and a man with too many schemes
Well, at least he is true to his name.
Mayeux then sighed as he closes his eyes.
"It is a pity such person could never become a true ally of my lord" Mayeux thought to himself.
Mayeux himself did not want to cross Ayera. If Ayera just a normal woman and just a concubine or a slave girl, he would not care so much
But he could see that even though the Kan did not show much affection for Ayera, it is the little things he did and the things he lets Ayera get away with that shows his affection
If he did not care about her, then how could Aeryon went to ride to save Garron?
Is he only caring about Garron as a hero? No, there must be some other consideration. His ambition is one part of it but also because of her. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
This is something that his lord did not say. But his lord did not need to say it for him to get the hint
And knowing this, he could not help but sighed
He takes a sip of the Ayrag and he walk out from his tent and look at the night sky
Tonight, the sky is clear and the stars are shining bright.
Summer is approaching and certain things need to be settled before summer came.
Mayeux look at the sky and raise his cup toward the sky
"Here’s to you" Mayeux might not be a hero and he did not appreciate heroes like Aeryon did.
But not appreciating heroes like Aeryon did not mean he did not appreciate great hero
It is just that a good hero is a dead hero.
Especially if they are on different teams.
He would never toast sincerely toward Garron when he was alive. But now he is dead, then he could toast him sincerely.
In life, there is always flaws to be found.
Heroes are only revered after their death.
When they are alive, they have flaws.
When they are dead and time turns deeds into legends, then people only look at what that hero symbolizes and not what the hero was.
Today, Mayeux looking at the star, his cup toasting the heaven, sincerely sending off Garron away to the domain of the Skyfather
...
That night, there is another strategist that receive the report of Garron death. He receive the report near dawn. The night is still there but dawn is coming in an hour.
He got the news a bit later. Because the report did not only contain the news of Garron death, but also why he died and the circumstances around Garron when he died.
This person reads the reports and he reads its several times and then after a while he sighed.
He is in his tent sitting cross legged in front of a short table. Around him there is all kinds of parchments and bamboo scrolls.
He finally put down the report and he could not help but sigh again
This person inside the tent is Katuran Sagutenak. But he is more well known in the East as Katakura.
"Frog-like Tortoise"
This is what his name literally translate to.
Chosen by Uda to accompany the young chief of the Esbizuk tribe, in a few years since the death of Uda, both he and Dama had achieve things that the Esbizuk tribe has not achieved for hundreds of years.
They expanded the tribe territory, strengthen the army, subdue the mountain tribe and now could compete for the world!
He is one of the three pillars of the Esbizuk tribe.
Both he and his sister are now honoured in the tribe.
Katakura however is not drowned in this enjoyment of the world and he remains steadfast in his task
Katakura is to Dama like Mayeux is to Aeryon.
