World Richest: My Infinite Wealth Began With World Travelling-Chapter 33: Scripts (2/8)
Chapter 33: Scripts (2/8)
"What should we do about this?"
"This looks like an actual dead end, for real. Have we wasted all that time for nothing?"
"Oh heavens, please show us the way."
They were worried sick about the current situation. King Julian, Theobald, and Osborne remained calm and observed the dead end as if searching for a clue.
Alister surveyed his surroundings, the walls on both sides and the dead end in front of him suggested that there really was no way out.
"Wait, take a look at the ground..."
King Julian called out, pointing at the bare floor of the tunnel with an interesting expression on his face. His call caused the others to stare at the ground right away.
The floors of the tunnel were as bare and basic as it naturally should be. Nevertheless, upon a deeper observation, some sort of engravings similar to those they found on the walls could be seen on the floors beneath their feet, albeit deeper.
Unlike the tiny engravings on the wall, this one was way bigger and much deeper. Most parts of it were covered in sand, dust and some small skeletal remains.
Osborne’s eyes lit up as he realized what the engravings on the ground meant.
"I knew those magical scripts weren’t written on the walls for nothing," the wizard rejoiced.
Alister and the others aimed their gaze at the wizard, curiously waiting for an explanation. But the wizard was too engaged in his discovery that he ignored their curiosity, even asking them to move aside as he began chanting in an unfamiliar tongue.
The wizard chanted for about ten seconds. The next second, a glowing magic circle materialized in front of the wizard’s outstretched hand.
The magic circle only lasted for a split second before disappearing and forming into a strong wind pressure that cleared the dirt obstructing the engraving on the ground.
"Wow!"
The crew exclaimed, not at the magic spell of the wizard, but at the intricate engravings etched on the floor. Now fully revealed after the wind washed the dirt away.
Those engravings formed an elaborate, mysterious magic formation—hundreds of intricate magical scripts written around a perfect, round circle.
The magic formation spread over a long distance such that if twenty people stood inside it, there would still be enough space for extra.
Chattering escaped as the crew began speculating what mysteries the magic formation held. Would it be drastic or beneficial to their cause? No body actually knew.
"This is it, those magical scripts earlier were written to activate this magical formation. If I can channel enough mana and chant those magical scripts correctly, I would be able to activate the formation. As to what it holds, we would find out after."
Everyone listened attentively as the wizard spoke with traces of excitement in his voice. Apparently, the old wizard was enthusiastic to activate the magic formation.
He brought out the scroll that was now filled with all the magical scripts he had copied from the walls.
The old wizard asked the others to leave the perimeter of the magic formation before strolling into the middle of it and squatting. Placing both his hands on the magic formation while his eyes were fixed on the magic scroll placed between his hands.
"Lara Rurannasina..."
The wizard began to chant loudly in an unknown language.
The crew watched as Osborne continued reciting the magical scripts on his scroll.
For the first few seconds of his chanting, there were no strange reactions from the magic formation on the ground.
After about one minute, something happened.
QUAKE!
The entire tunnel shook violently for a few seconds as though an earthquake was happening. Although the shake wasn’t that violent, it almost made the entire crew lose footing.
The eyes of the new worried crew members jammed, different questions hidden within them but one was common and that was ’What the heck was happening!’
Alister dragged out his sword and scanned the surroundings with a frown on his face. For unknown reason, he felt like they were being approached by some otherworldly entity.
The other soldiers followed after the action of the hero, they dragged out their weapons and formed a protective circle around King Julian while watching their surroundings vigilantly.
Quite the opposite of the worried crew, the old wizard remained unfazed and still in his squatting position. Despite the quake that shook the tunnel, he did not take his hands off the formation and did not pause his chanting. Instead, the old wizard chanted even louder.
The crew members were still watching their surroundings vigilantly when the same quake occurred again. It was several times stronger than the first and some soldiers even lost their footing.
THUD! THUD!
Cracks appeared in the roof of the tunnel and small rocks fell on the ground with loud echoing thuds that startled the already worried crew.
But that wasn’t the end of it.
THUD! THUD!!
The thudding sound of something sturdy and hard hitting against the rocky floor of the tunnel continued.
But it sounded more like footsteps approaching than rocks falling.
It was then that Alister noticed something that caused his eyes to widen in clear astonishment.
An army of skeletons in different shapes and sizes were marching towards them. Each of them possessed red glassy eyes that reflected extreme blood list.
Not only that, under the watchful gaze of the hero, a faint glowing wisp of energy drifted through a gathering of skeletal remains loitering the ground.
In the next second, the bone remains began merging together and in a few seconds, they formed into undead creatures similar to the ones marching forward.
The army of undead formed and grew under their watchful eyes.
"What the heck!"
"This...!"
"Oh God! No!!"
The soldiers were naturally startled by the undead army marching towards them with hostility. The sight of the skeletal remains forming into new undead soldiers invoked a strong feeling of dread.
Alister frowned deeply as he analyzed the undead army.
While these abnormalities weren’t as big as the Cranosith he struggled against and defeated a few hours ago, he could tell that they would be very difficult to take down.
Nevertheless, while chaos brew, the magical formation began reacting.
