World's Best Protagonist [BL]-Chapter 64: Infernal Vortex Class ? (5)
Chapter 64: Infernal Vortex Class ? (5)
The fight between Lexie and Diego can be seen as a one-sided battle.
While fire and mist raged in the distance from Sergio and Claude’s fight, Lexie stood on the other side, near the empty houses of people that fled from the war.
In her hands were two sharp, curved daggers of her one creation.
Across from her, leaning on the wooden post of a dilapidated house, was Diego breathing heavily. Blood was dripping from the stump where his left hand had once been, the cloth wrapped on it was already loose and soaked.
Lexie just watched. There was no need for her to put major effort into defeating the guy. The daggers in her hand disappeared. She pulled another weapon—a revolver.
Diego snickered. "Don’t underestimate me, bitch. You can’t hit me with that gun."
Lexie raised her brow. She flipped her brown, curly hair to the back, then spun the gun in her long, slender fingers. "Oh, please. Stop acting tough. We both know you’re dying. Look at the soil, bathed in your blood. Also, don’t you notice you’re slowing down? So, just surrender."
Diego grinned through the pain. "Surrender? Like you guys are gonna spare me if I do." He stood straight again, spitting the blood on his mouth as he regained his stance. "I’d rather die than surrender."
"If that’s what you wish," Lexie replied, pointing the gun to Diego.
In a blink, Diego disappeared in his spot. A strong gust of wind blew outward, and a powerful force headed directly to Lexie’s face. She fired her first bullet. It was dodged.
Her eyes could only see Diego’s afterimage in the beginning, but she wasn’t alarmed or at a disadvantage. Her senses were sharp like an assassin, and her body was nimble and light.
Diego, on the other hand, was slowing down due to blood loss and fresh wounds on his body. Lexie knew it; therefore, she only dodged Diego’s attacks repeatedly to exhaust him. Once his speed was no longer as fast as it did before, Lexie fired another shot.
It hit his leg.
"Argh!"
Bang!
Another shot on the other leg. Then, the fourth bullet pierced Diego’s abdomen. He tried to escape despite the two holes in each of his legs, but the fifth shot stopped him, paralyzing his whole body once it hit his chest.
He fell down, his back hitting the ground. The light in his eyes began to diminish as they stared in a certain direction—to Jade. He couldn’t help but feel resentful toward the man hindering his view of Jade’s face.
A few moments later, his eyes completely died and he stopped breathing. Lexie approached Diego’s motionless body. She sighed, closed her eyes for a bit, then walked away.
Etienne noticed her from a distance, but she just waved her hand dismissively when he tried to approach her to provide treatment. Her injuries weren’t so severe after all. Instead, she headed to the two standing in the middle of the battlefield, stood in between them and waited until one of them noticed her presence.
Jade was the first to do so. He briefly glanced at Lexie, grimaced at the teasing look she gave, then turned to Allen and said, "You’re done. Now, let go. Lexie’s next."
"I’m next on what? Are you providing something like counseling, Jade?" Lexie asked, wondering. "Are you now a Minder?"
"Er...no, not officially. And I have no plan to make it official. Stop asking and let me hold you," Jade stepped away from Allen, still a bit annoyed about their last conversation. He wanted to confront Allen, but figured it wasn’t the right place and time to do that.
Lexie obediently leaned her body forward. "Must you hold my shoulders?"
"No," Jade immediately answered. "Your hands will suffice."
And so, another session occurred.
After a few seconds of watching Jade, Allen finally decided to walk away and focused on the Alpha-02.
Once he was gone, Lexie suspiciously eyed Jade, her eyebrows wriggling in an attempt to find the truth.
"Hey, what’s going on between you and the young master?" Lexie began.
Jade paused. His brow raised in wonder. "Young master? Who? Allen?"
Lexie nodded. "Yep. You didn’t know? Allen Jose. The youngest son of Chairman Jose of SJ Corporation. So, what’s between you two?"
"I didn’t know that. No wonder he looked like someone who came from a rich family. I noticed his clothes are all signature brands."
"Don’t avoid the topic, Jade," Lexie teased, nudging her elbow to Jade’s side. freewebnσvel.cøm
Jade just gave her a deadpan look and shook his head. "Nothing. You didn’t seem surprised when I said I’m unofficially a Minder. Did everyone in the team know? Am I being left out? I’m not informed about this mission either."
"You were given another task."
"That’s personal. If I knew about this raid, I would have set that aside and joined the team."
Lexie cleared her throat. She did not question their captain’s decision before, but learning that Jade’s a Minder, she now understood why Claude opted to leave him out of the raid.
"The captain suspected that you’re actually a Minder; therefore, he chose not to include you." Terrius came from behind Jade. "You probably already know why Minders aren’t allowed inside the vortex. You deliberately ran toward the monster earlier, didn’t you? That was a risky move, Jade."
Jade was rendered speechless. When it comes to Terrius, his snarky remarks die down. He was also aware of the possible result if the boss monster had reached him before Allen and Claude did.
After Lexie regained most of her energy, she jumped into the fight with the boss monster. Jade turned to Terrius next. He thought Terrius would remain silent for the whole duration of the session, so he was surprised when he brought up the topic again.
"Once we’re back on Earth, you will have to be reevaluated. When you become a Minder officially, you won’t be able to join our team. I personally think that’s for the better."
