Baby Serendipity: The Whole World Fell In Love With Me-Chapter 677 - 676: A Fox is Injured Here
Chapter 677: Chapter 676: A Fox is Injured Here
Because she grew up doted on by her parents, Mianmian trusted them deeply.
Today, after seeing so many children taken away by the Daoist priests, Mianmian pursed her little lips and finally opened up about the scene she witnessed.
After hearing their daughter’s words, the couple saw shock in each other’s eyes.
Was it the Fox Demon that had taken on the appearance of a Daoist priest from Bixia Monastery, or had the Daoist priests of Bixia Monastery been the ones taking children’s hearts from the very start?
If it was the former, then the Fox Demon being caught today meant the village wouldn’t have any more trouble in future. If it was the latter, the children who were taken away were likely in grave danger!
The even scarier thought was, if it was the latter, then their own Mianmian might be in danger, a fact that Wu Chenzi’s behavior today had made quite clear.
If he hadn’t had ulterior motives, why would he offer ten times the silver just to take Mianmian as his disciple?
What should we do?
Jiang Yao’s face showed panic, her beautiful eyes brimming with tears, "Husband, our Mianmian, could she be targeted? What should we do now?"
Su Senqi felt panicked as well.
They were just ordinary farmers, with no way to contend with the Daoist priests of Bixia Monastery.
"Let’s run, let’s head for the mountains. If we can get over three mountains, we’ll reach another town. Then, they might not be able to find us," Su Senqi shared his thoughts, "Today, that Daoist was willing to pay so much for our Mianmian, he definitely won’t give up easily. They would never guess that our Mianmian already knows they are up to no good, meaning they won’t expect us to head into the mountains."
"We’ll leave tonight!"
After making the plan, the couple packed up their belongings, taking whatever they could carry.
Before leaving, Su Senqi went a step further and set fire to their house.
The Su Family house had no other houses nearby, so even if it caught fire, it would only burn their own home.
By the time the village was woken by the thick smoke and wanted to help put out the fire, Mianmian and her parents had already made it to the mountains.
The family found a cave to settle in, sparsely spreading out some pungent herbal powders to ward off wild beasts and snakes.
These measures were little comfort but were enough for the family to rest and continue their journey.
Knowing her parents were fleeing for their lives, Mianmian was exceptionally well-behaved and careful the entire way.
The family, through hardship, reached the second mountain. When resting on the mountain to recoup some energy, Little Bun suddenly noticed an injured red-furred fox.
"Daddy, there’s an injured fox here."
Su Senqi understood what his daughter meant and casually picked some herbal medicine to treat the fox’s wounds.
The fox was injured on its leg and belly. Initially, it tried to run away from the strangers but couldn’t manage to escape.
Jiang Yao cradled the fox while Su Senqi applied the medicine.
In the mountains, after many days of travel, the grubby Little Bun reached out her dirty little hand to stroke the fox’s head, comforting it and telling it not to be afraid.
In a while, the wounds on the fox were securely bandaged.
Unable to move even more now, it could only stare at the family with its wide, fearful animal eyes.
On the journey, Mianmian hadn’t spoken to anyone besides her parents. Now, with a little fox accompanying them, she began to narrate in her milky voice what the family was doing.
"Little fox, little fox, did you know? We used to be from Xinghua Village."
"Suddenly, people said children in other villages had their hearts dug out by a Fox Demon, and Mianmian was so scared. Everyone in the village was afraid, too."
"But, but, when Mianmian was hiding and seek with her friends, she saw the Daoist priests from Bixia Monastery harm Mianmian’s friends to death..."
Many days had passed since the incident, and Mianmian had thought she was no longer afraid. But now, as she spoke to the little fox about it, she still shuddered with fear, her voice trembling, "Why was that person so frightening? Just like that, he killed Mianmian’s good friend..."
She touched her chest, still feeling the aftereffects of the terror.
If it had been her heart that was ripped out, how painful it would have been.
As the little fox listened to Mianmian speaking, its pupils constricted slightly.
Before Mianmian could finish, she started talking about how the Daoist priests came to the village to select children to become apprentices and took them away. And the Daoist priests captured a super big red fox too.
"That red fox looks a lot like you, but its fur seems much redder than yours, a, a bit like the color of blood."
When the little fox heard about the red fox, its pupils narrowed even more fiercely.
A glint of hatred flashed through its eyes, but nobody saw it.
Mianmian droned on about how Wu Chenzi wanted to take her as his apprentice, and how her parents felt Wu Chenzi wanted to harm her.
Having finished talking about all these things, she petted the little fox’s fur and said with grievance, "Living in Xinghua Village is so happy, Mianmian doesn’t want to leave Xinghua Village at all."
She didn’t want to leave, but there was no helping it; her parents were doing this to protect her.
Little Bun knew it in her heart as clear as a mirror, and snuggled up with the little fox, sleeping sweetly at night.
After she fell asleep, the little fox struggled out of her embrace and ran out of the cave where her family had settled.
The small furry ball dashed along, darting into a cave, and arrived at a place filled with birdsong and fragrant flowers.
There slept another big fox.
The little fox hummed and hawed to wake up the big fox, who, upon hearing the little one’s hums and haws, immediately had a change in expression.
When dawn broke the next day, Mianmian opened her eyes and instinctively called out for Daddy and Mother. Stretching out her small hand, she touched something fuzzy.
She opened her eyes.
Standing before Little Bun was a white fox larger than the big red fox, and astonishingly, this fox had grown three tails.
She was still in the cave, but there were neither Daddy nor Mother, only the little red fox that had been rescued yesterday was there.
Mianmian’s little face turned pale instantly, and she stepped back, trembling as she asked, "Where did Mianmian’s Daddy and Mother go?"
The big white fox narrowed its eyes and surprisingly spoke in a man’s voice, "Your Daddy and Mother left on their own, and they have given you to me."
Mianmian shook her head, disbelieving, "No, no, Mianmian’s parents wouldn’t abandon Mianmian."
But the big white fox ignored Mianmian and instead asked the little red fox, "Xiaoji, are you well-rested? We should be off now."
After speaking, the big white fox threw Mianmian and the little fox onto its back, taking off in the direction from which Mianmian had come.
Mianmian sat on the back of the big fox and wept, her tears flowing from deep sorrow.
Yet the big fox seemed as if it did not hear, continuing on, carrying her straight to the outskirts of Xinghua Village.
Mianmian cried all the way, unable to cry her parents back. The little girl braved her discomfort and tried another way to want her parents.
"If I behave and listen well, will you bring my parents back to me?"
After asking this question, Mianmian saw the big fox transform in a shimmer, taking on the appearance of her daddy.
Little Bun stood there dumbfounded, looking around, utterly stunned in place.
How could the big white fox turn into Daddy? Is Daddy a fox?
