Baby Serendipity: The Whole World Fell In Love With Me-Chapter 678 - 677: The Mother Fox’s Husband Has Arrived
Chapter 678: Chapter 677: The Mother Fox’s Husband Has Arrived
Seeing the child staring blankly, the big white fox revealed a smile just like Su Senqi’s and gently said, "Mianmian, why aren’t you calling out ’Daddy’? Don’t you like Daddy anymore?"
Mianmian still hadn’t figured out how the fox had transformed into the spitting image of her father.
But she missed her parents so much that after a while, she threw her arms around the neck of the Su Senqi in front of her, expressing her longing.
As she spoke, she remembered her Mother and quickly asked where her Mother had gone.
Su Senqi smiled and said, "Look, isn’t your Mother right here?"
Turning her head, Mianmian really did see her own mother.
She ran into her Mother’s arms, sharing her feelings of missing them and the incident with the big white fox.
Her Mother, always smiling cheerfully, said gently, "You were just too scared, and that’s why you saw those things. Don’t be afraid, dear, your Daddy and Mother are right beside you."
After speaking, the family headed toward the house.
The villagers, upon seeing the family of three, were scared out of their wits: "The ghosts of the Su Senqi family have returned, the ghosts of the Su Senqi family have returned..."
This cry alerted everyone in the village that they had come back to Xinghua Village. The village chief, while working in the fields, was called back by the villagers. Everyone kept their distance from the family of three, fearing they might be harmed by the ghosts.
The village chief looked up at the sky, assured by the bright sunlight, then at the feet of the family of three, affirming they had shadows, and his fear subsided by half.
From afar, he asked, "Where did you all come back from, and do you know that your house has burnt down?"
Su Senqi, with a look of surprise, replied, "What? Our house burnt down?"
Holding Mianmian, he rushed toward their home.
All the way home, Mianmian was frightened until she eventually fell asleep, quietly nestled against Su Senqi.
As the family of three reached their doorstep, the villagers followed from a distance to watch.
Where their house once stood, there was indeed nothing but a blackened area.
Some of the broken walls had been cleared to one side, leaving a large pile of stones heaped in the corner, yet to be moved.
That spot was the bedroom.
When Su Senqi first built the house, thinking that mud bricks were useless, he specifically spent a lot of money on stone bricks.
The origins of the stone bricks were dubious, said to have been stolen by gravekeepers from the cemetery, which was the only reason Su Senqi could afford them.
With the wooden structure of the house destroyed, these bricks had lost their support and all collapsed onto the bed, leading villagers to believe they had died in their sleep.
"What happened here?" Su Senqi was still full of panic, "Seven days ago, a distant cousin invited us over for a drink, and we left that very night through the back door. How could our house have been burnt down?"
"Where are we going to stay now?"
After hearing this, the village chief didn’t delve deeper and simply responded, "Don’t worry, there’s an abandoned house in the village. You can rest there for now."
They did not know that the Su family left because they suspected the Daoist priests from the Daoist Temple were up to no good and naturally only believed what was within their comprehension.
Su Senqi, holding Mianmian, settled down temporarily with the help of the village chief.
Days passed quietly. Watching her parents embroider and work the fields just like before, the gears in Mianmian’s little head automatically forgot the incident with the large fox.
It must have been a big fox she dreamt of! Her parents were alright after all!
The only thing that confused Mianmian was why they left the village and then returned.
Until one day, there was another incident in the village where a child’s heart was gouged out.
This time, Mianmian didn’t witness it herself but when she learned of the news, she quickly flung herself into her Daddy’s arms for comfort.
While nestling in her Daddy’s embrace, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a spot of red on her Daddy’s clothes.
"Daddy, how did you get your clothes dirty?" she asked.
Su Senqi smiled faintly, "I probably got them dirty while working in the field."
"Oh!" Mianmian obediently nodded, "Then Daddy, take it off, and Mianmian will help wash it."
Now, she didn’t like to go out and play, nor play hide-and-seek. She just hung around her parents every day.
Su Senqi’s gaze softened as he looked at Little Bun with her hair in twin buns, a flicker of light passing through the depths of his eyes.
He smiled and said, "Mianmian is still small and won’t be able to clean it properly. Let your Mother wash it."
Since another child’s heart had been gouged out, it was certain that the Daoist Masters from the Daoist Temple would have to be called again. The Daoist Master had said before that if the children of the village took them as their Masters, they would protect the village.
This time, the one who came was still Wu Chenzi.
After examining the wound inflicted on the child, Wu Chenzi frowned and said, "Could it be the mate of that vixen has arrived?"
Upon hearing this, the villagers were astonished: "What, do fox demons have mates?"
Wu Chenzi twisted his beard, nodding slightly, "That’s right, the fox even has a cub. The three of them, a whole family of heart-gouging fox demons."
When Wu Chenzi said this, Mianmian suddenly felt her father hugging her very tightly.
"Daddy, what’s wrong? If you are scared, let’s go home and not look anymore," she said.
Su Senqi relaxed his grip slightly, comforting the Little Bun in his arms, "Daddy is fine, Mianmian, don’t worry."
The conversation between father and son caught Wu Chenzi’s attention, and he approached them saying, "It’s been a long time, young Su."
Though the words were addressed to Su Senqi, his gaze rested on Mianmian, scrutinizing her from top to bottom.
Mianmian shrank back into Su Senqi’s embrace.
Su Senqi responded, "Indeed, it’s been a long time, Daoist Master Wu Chen. Thank you for your hard work."
Wu Chenzi waved a hand, "Doing work for the people, how could it be hard? I’m wondering if the young Su has changed his mind about our previous discussion? If you have, you can tell me anytime."
Hearing Wu Chenzi’s invitation, Su Senqi hadn’t yet answered when someone in the village spoke up: "I think you should agree, Su Senqi. Your house has fallen, and now you have nowhere to live. Building a house requires money, so why not let your daughter follow the Daoist Master to the Daoist Temple and enjoy its blessings?"
"I also think so, the Daoist Master’s gracious invitation is hard to refuse. Why don’t you agree?"
"By the way, Daoist Master, is our child behaving well in the Daoist Temple?"
Wu Chenzi responded with a smile to the villagers, his face hopeful as he looked at Su Senqi.
Su Senqi showed hesitation.
After a while, he said, "During my visit to my relatives, I was indeed reprimanded by the elders for not having a descendant. But Daoist Master, I truly cherish my little girl. Would it be possible for me to accompany my daughter on a tour of the Daoist Temple before making a decision?"
Wu Chenzi was overjoyed, "Of course, of course, your whole family can visit the Daoist Temple and make a decision afterwards."
This response gave hope to those villagers who wished to see their children, and they asked if they could join as well.
Wu Chenzi said, "Your worldly ties have been severed, of course you cannot."
The villagers, denied their request, turned to Su Senqi, pleading that when he saw their children, he help look after them.
The family followed Wu Chenzi into the Daoist Temple.
