Chapter 250: A God Or A Saint

The sun was setting behind the tall trees, causing their shadows to stretch out onto the road like fingers of darkness trying to reach their next victim.

Crouching down, I poked at one of the shadows near my feet and giggled. "If you want to come out and play, you don’t have to be so cautious. We don’t bite. Not unless you beg us to."

"Hands up," growled a voice coming from behind one of the trees. I heard the sound of a shot gun being loaded, but I didn’t really pay it much mind. If someone was really dumb enough to try to rob us, then he was dumb enough to play with.

"No, thank you. I don’t have to go potty," I announced, still poking at the shadow in front of me.

"What the fuck?" grunted a second voice coming from the other side of the road.

"Mrs. Mount says that the only time I have to put up my hand is if I have a question or have to go potty. I don’t have a question, and I don’t need to go pee, so why should I put up my hands?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. The shadows expanded for a second before a man separated himself from the tree.

"Is there something wrong with her?" grunted the man as he eyed me up and down before turning his attention to Chang Xuefeng.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at the idea that even strangers thought of him as Daddy. It really wasn’t my fault that he put out those kinds of vibes.

"She is perfect," growled Daddy as he held out a hand for me to take. Putting my hand in his, he pulled me to my feet and tucked me against his side. "But if you don’t want to die, I suggest that you stop pointing your fucking gun at my girl’s head."

"You’re sick," growled the man on the other side. "Give us all your supplies... and her. Then we’ll let you live."

"I donna think yous be wantin’ ta do dat," grunted Dimitri as he turned his attention to the second man.

"Yeah," nodded Luca as Désiré placed his elbow on Luca’s shoulder. It was a familiar act, and I wondered how many times they had found themselves in this situation. "Even if we were willing to give her to you, you’d be payin’ us soon enough to take her back. But hey, you do you."

"What the fuck?" grunted a third man as he came up behind us. Resting my head on Daddy’s chest, I took out a bag of cotton candy and started snacking while my men had fun.

"Who the fuck are you guys?" murmured a fourth man. He seemed to be shaking like a leaf as he approached us, his gun waving around. If he wasn’t careful, he was going to shoot himself in the foot.

"We’re the Sins," purred Désiré, the smile on his face turning brighter as the man in front started to turn white. "Maybe yous ’eard of us?"

It took less than a second for the man to drop his gun and fall to his knees in absolute terror. Huh, I was going to have to ask the guys what they were doing to make someone this terrified of them.

Ducking away from Chang Xuefeng, I walked over to the man and crouched down in front of him. "You okay?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. "Is there something I can do for you?"

"Are you with them? The Sins?" the man in front of me whispered, his voice so soft it was like he didn’t dare talk too loudly, just in case one of the guys was listening.

"I am," I nodded. Putting the cotton candy away, I pulled a Snickers out of my space and held it out to the man. "But I came after." freewebnøvel.coɱ

"Run," breathed the man, his body trembling even more as he heard Tank growling. "They are not good people. Run before they kill you, too."

"Now you’re just being silly," I whispered back at him, my voice just as soft. Resting my hands against his shoulders, I continued to whisper in his ear. "They won’t touch me. They can’t."

Leaning back so that there was more space between the two of us, I looked the man up and down. "But since you were willing to risk your life to warn me away, I’ll grant you one wish for your good deed."

The man looked up at me, his face completely blank as if he didn’t understand what I was saying. He was still in shock, thanks to whatever he had heard about the guys, so I was willing to give him a pass. "Seriously, if you have a wish, just let me know. I can make every last one of your dreams come true."

The trembling man looked up at me, tears falling from his eyes as he studied my face. I don’t know what he saw, but whatever it was, it convinced him that I was telling the truth.

"I wish that my girl and I could go to the carnival," he whispered. "We were supposed to go on Halloween right before shit hit the fan, but then she became a zombie, and I...."

He swallowed hard, his eyes pleading with me to understand what he did next. "I---I."

"It’s normal to kill zombies," I smiled at him, patting his shoulder. "Besides, if it was the original mutated zombies, then I’m sure you didn’t actually manage to kill her. Those ones are much too hard to kill."

"She is still alive?" he gasped, hope shining in his eyes. "In that case, can I have one last night with her? Like we were supposed to before the world went to shit?"

"See," I sighed, rocking back on my heels. "I would love to help you with that, but you haven’t said the magic words. And no, it’s not please."

"I wish that I could go to the carnival with my girl one last time before I die," he sighed, looking up at me like I was some type of god or saint.

"Of course," I replied, nodding my head. "Deal accepted."

Unfortunately for him, I was neither a god nor a saint.
