Chapter 419: Beck And Call

Dimitri paced back and forth in the living room that seemed to be getting smaller with every step that he took.

"You’re going to wear a hole in the floor," sneered Chang Xuefeng without looking up from his book. "You might as well relax. Tank is with her, and Hattie is going to be back when she is good and ready."

"I don’t care that the dog is with her," hissed Dimitri, his accent completely gone as he was lost in his anger. "I want to be with her."

"You could have fooled me," muttered Chang Xuefeng as he turned yet another page. It was a good thing that he had read this particular book a few times, because he was just going through the motions. He hadn’t read a single word... but that wasn’t the point.

The point was that he was supposed to be relaxed, not try to take apart the world simply because Hattie hadn’t come home for a single night.

She was a grown woman; she could do what she wanted. And if she wanted to get away from people, then he would make sure that her men didn’t hunt her down too soon.

"And just what is that supposed to mean?" demanded Dimitri, spinning around even as his eyes flashed bright red. He felt his muscles growing, getting bigger as he prepared to fight. Trying to ease the tension in his neck, he tried to stretch the muscles, but nothing was working.

"I mean, for a demon who hasn’t offered his soul yet, it doesn’t seem like you want to be with her," explained Chang Xuefeng, finally giving up on the book. If Dimitri wanted a fight, then he would be more than willing to give him one. Maybe that would help his own stress levels.

"I gave her my fucking heart!" bellowed Dimitri, flinging his arm toward the display case. "Well, it might not be MY heart, because I need that to live, but I gave her an immortal heart in a cage to show her that she had my heart."

Chang Xuefeng blinked for a couple of seconds before letting out a soft chuckle. "I don’t think any of us saw it that way," he finally admitted.

"Why else would someone give someone else a heart? On a Valentine’s Day card, there is a heart on it. I thought it was obvious! How could it not be obvious!?!" growled Dimitri, but his voice became a bit softer, a bit more hesitant. "Did she really not understand that I was wanting her to ask for my soul?"

"The souls are meant to be offered, it means more," sighed Chang Xuefeng, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"I gave her my heart—I thought," sputtered Dimitri, his shoulders dropping even more. Chang Xuefeng let out a disappointed sigh that he was no longer going to be able to fight the Sin and slumped into the couch cushions.

"Well, the good news is that you and Hattie seem to be on the same level when it comes to expression emotions," grumbled Chang Xuefeng as he, once again, picked up the book. "The bad news is that unless you want to be in the friend zone for the next few millennia, you might want to tell her that you want more from her." free𝑤ebnovel.com

"But she strangled me when I said that I was interested in a girl. Doesn’t that count for anything?" demanded Dimitri, flinging himself into one of the chairs as he thought back to the time that he had first found Hattie in the snow under that tree.

That image of her was permanently engraved into his head as one of his happiest memories. It was at that point in time that he finally knew what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

"She doesn’t need you to protect her," said Chang Xuefeng as if reading Dimitri’s mind. "But I also won’t stop you if you want to go find her."

Taking in a deep breath, Dimitri got his emotions under control as he rose to his feet. "A man doesn’t protect his woman because he thinks that she is weak," he said softly, his eyes glazing over as he thought of Hattie. No one in their right mind would ever think that she was weak. "A man protects his woman because she is important."

With those parting words, Dimitri quickly left the house.

"I need more of that serum," announced Alicia as she banged open the door to Adam’s private lab. Just like before, he was just emerging from the hidden room, wiping his hands with a paper towel.

"The conquering hero returns," sneered Adam as he tossed the used paper towel into the garbage can. "What? You didn’t get enough supplies?"

"I want more," hissed Alicia as she slammed her hand down on Adam’s lab table. It knocked some of the empty glass beakers onto the ground, causing them to shatter.

"Coming from you, you’ll have to expand that sentence a bit more. You want more what? More supplies, more power, more men, more brains? I mean, with you, it could be a lot of things."

Adam was more than willing to help Alicia when it was convenient for him, but the bitch was starting to think that he was one of her lapdogs, running around, desperate to do her bidding. If she didn’t smarten up and understand her place on the food chain, then Adam wouldn’t hesitate to smack her down a few pegs.

After all, the moment Lucifer came back, Adam was going to give her this entire base as a show of his love and devotion.

The more he thought about it, the more he realized that it would be better to take Alicia out of the equation sooner rather than later. After all, Lucifer probably didn’t want to deal with someone with such a low IQ.

"I need more strength," hissed Alicia. "Luca is the strongest space power user I have ever come across, and now I need to be on his level."

"You will never be on that man’s level," sneered Adam. He might hate Luca simply for being able to stand beside Lucifer in the open, but even he was able to acknowledge just how superior he was.

"I don’t have to," smirked Alicia as she took Adam’s seat. "I used the Puppet formula on him, and now he is at my every beck and call."

"You are going to die."
