Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 423: Play Until The End
Chapter 423: Play Until The End
It took Dimitri a lot longer than it should have before he found Hattie’s trail. Of course, it didn’t help that it took him so long to get past Chang Xuefeng before he could actually leave the fucking house to find her.
He definitely owed that angel a punch in the face for that.
Looking down at the valley, he cocked his head to the side. The vine-covered walls of the Sanctuary taunted him as he remembered the last time he was inside the place. However, looking at the baby versions of Country N’s jungle, Dimitri couldn’t help but snort.
If Réne and the others really thought that those tiny little things would be any type of deterrent, they were smoking the wrong herb.
Walking down the well-worn road, his eyes narrowed at the line-up of people trying to get in. With a snort, he strolled past the families and people close to death, not caring about the nasty looks or comments.
Since when did Wrath patiently wait at the back of the line to get what was his? After all, unlike everyone else, he wasn’t here for the Sanctuary.
No, he was here for the woman who held his beating heart in her hands and smiled up at him with innocence.
"Hey, Buddy," grunted the guard, holding out his arm to block Dimitri’s way. The other man smiled cruelly even as he grabbed the outstretched arm and snapped it in half. "What the fuck?!?" gasped the guard as he clutched his now broken arm to his chest.
Multiple guards rushed out; their guns raised as they stared down their sights at the monster who had just broken their comrade’s arm.
"On the ground, hands behind your head, fingers locked together," announced the one in charge, even as he gestured with his gun. "Now."
"And just what are you going to do if I say no?" asked Dimitri, the smirk on his face promising blood and pain to whoever stood in his way. He was much too casual to be taken for anything other than a threat, especially considering that he was looking at the men with assault rifles like they were nothing more than children with Nerf guns.
In response, the man standing just behind the lead soldier fired a shot, aiming for Dimitri’s shoulder. However, instead of the blood they were all expecting to see, they watched as the bullet seemed to melt the second it touched Dimitri before being absorbed into his skin.
"Was that supposed to do something?" asked Dimitri, cocking his head to the side. "I mean, it tickled a bit, but if you boys were trying to go for intimidation, you might need to try something else."
The lead, never taking his eyes off Dimitri, keyed up his radio and spoke quickly. "Level One metal user at front gates. Need advice on how to proceed."
"Need advice, do ya?" chuckled Dimitri as he held his hand out so that his palm was facing up. The six men in front of him, including the guard with a broken arm, watched in horror as a bullet formed from nothing before floating up.
Flicking his middle finger against his thumb, Dimitri sent the bullet flying at the injured man, hitting him right between the eyes. "My advice is to let me do whatever the fuck I want. It’ll keep you living longer."
"Even if we have to die," announced the lead, holding his head up high. "We will not let you just walk into our Sanctuary."
Dimitri grunted. "Try and stop me then," he whispered before he simply started walking forward. The bullets being fired at him bounced off his body, some of them hitting the people around him.
"You will not enter," announced a new soldier, rushing forward. He held a weird object in front of him with both hands, and before Dimitri could say anything, the object released a steady string of fire, completely engulfing him.
"Now!" shouted the lead soldier. In response, a second round of gunfire erupted. While the men couldn’t see Dimitri, thanks to the flames, they didn’t need to. Firing at the center of the mass, they continued to shoot until they were almost out of bullets.
"Hold your fire!" called out the lead, his shoulders relaxing now that the threat had been taken care of. While metal users could use metal as a shield or a second skin, they were helpless against a heavy onslaught of fire.
The fire, it turned out, was a metal user’s only weakness. When hot enough, it kept the metal in liquid form, allowing the bullets to do their job. This was the best and most effective way of dealing with that type of threat.
"Do you know what the definition of insanity is?" mused Dimitri as the flames were extinguished and he emerged from their cocoon completely unharmed. "It’s doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result."
"Monster," the word was whispered once by some of the men watching from the line as a scene from a movie played out in front of them. While now it was weirder to see someone without powers than with them, no one had seen someone that strong.
"Well, now," chuckled Dimitri over his shoulder. "You’re hurting my feelings. But I guess you do have it right. I am a monster... her monster." The smile remained on his face even as he turned his attention back to the guard in front of him. "And you are the ones keeping me from her."
"Which one are you?" asked a new man as he exited the Sanctuary and walked over to where the soldiers were standing. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"Wouldn’t you like to know," sneered Dimitri, looking the man up and down. He looked familiar, but Dimitri couldn’t quite put his finger on why that was. "Let me in, and no one dies. It really is that simple. Of course, I also don’t mind killing everyone here. I’ll let you make that decision."
"How do I know if you are one of hers or just a stalker? I mean, she also had plenty of crazies coming out of the woodwork wanting to swear their allegiance to her," shrugged the newcomer. His hands were in his pockets like he didn’t consider Dimitri a threat at all.
And after that demonstration, that meant he was either as strong, if not stronger, than Dimitri, or he had a death wish.
But no matter what, Dimitri was willing to play with him until the end.
