Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 435: A Story To Tell
Chapter 435: A Story To Tell
Dimitri looked at Tank, both of them feeling it the second Hattie was no longer in the mansion. It was like a pit had opened up inside of them, and it was all they could do to hold onto their temper.
Tank, losing the battle first, punched a hole in the wall before narrowing his eyes at Dimitri. "I’m getting her a collar," he grunted, heading toward the front door. Since this wasn’t their house, the hole wasn’t going to fix itself, but that was the last thing on Dimitri’s mind.
The first was who he had to kill. frёeωebɳovel.com
Stalking down the street, people rushed to get out of their way. Even the guards at the gate between the Sanctuary and the Base didn’t try to stop them, simply opened the gate and let them through.
It was smart on their side; it saved Dimitri and Tank a few seconds and saved their lives. A win-win if there ever was one.
"Fuck the collar," grunted Dimitri as he tried to pinpoint exactly where Hattie was. In his mind, there was a bright, silver path covered in sparkles, leading him to Hattie, but that line tended to be a straight line. Unfortunately for everyone, Sanctuary wasn’t built on straight lines, so the path disappeared through buildings and alleyways, making it hard to actually find her. "I need a leash."
Tank grunted, but didn’t say whether or not he agreed with the other man. After all, it was up to Hattie if a leash for her was a good idea or not.
Weaving between buildings until they found the one with the glittery path, the two men rushed upstairs until they were outside the door. "We knockin’?" asked Dimitri, cocking his head to the side. The smell of blood wafted delicately out from under the closed door. Anyone not as sensitive to the scent wouldn’t even be able to pick it up, but it was no problem for Wrath.
"Since when do you knock?" sneered Tank as he lifted his foot. Finding the sweet spot near the handle, he booted open the door.
"Hattie!" cried Tank, taking in everything with a single look. "You’re bleeding! Again!" Seriously, it hadn’t even been three hours since she was shot in the head, was she trying for a record or something?!?
"Sorry," sighed Hattie, not the least bit sorry. "It was a whole thing. In my defense, I didn’t see this coming at all. I thought I was just visiting Luca."
Dimitri didn’t bother to say a word, simply stalked over to the man on his knees and punched him hard in the face.
Luca swayed with the hit, but didn’t move otherwise. "That’s just like you," he said instead, carefully poking at his split lip with his tongue. "Hit first, asking questions never. It’s nice to know that 10,000 years haven’t changed you in the slightest."
The rage on Dimitri’s face quickly changed to confusion as he looked over his shoulder at Hattie, who was bleeding from several cuts in her neck. Alicia was still on her knees, the knife pressed against her throat, looking terrified.
"What’s he talkin’ about?" asked Dimitri, feeling like he was more than a little behind.
"That’s part of the whole thing," Hattie sighed even as Tank took Alicia away from her. Gripping the other woman around the throat, he stalked toward the windows. Finding one window that was divided into two panes, he punched out the upper glass. He wasn’t willing to risk Hattie falling through one of the floor to ceiling panels.
When the upper glass shattered, Tank pushed Alicia even closer until her trembling hands were gripping the thin silver ledge of the window separating the top from the bottom.
Blood poured out of them as she whimpered, but she was too scared to say anything. Not since her last life had she been treated like this, and for once, she really thought that she was going to die.
"You can’t kill her," sighed Hattie, tears pooling in her eyes. "There is that whole wish thing, remember? It’s not her time."
"A fall from this height shouldn’t kill her," shrugged Tank even as he pushed her forward even more. The shards of glass sticking out of the ledge cut even deeper into Alicia’s tender palms, but she held back the yelp of pain. "It might just break a few bones in her body, but she has 206; she can afford to have a few snapped."
"Let her go," grumbled Hattie, wiping the tears that were threatening to spill. "We have bigger fish to fry."
"Then why are you crying?" asked Dimitri, wrapping his little treasure in his arms.
"Because I want her dead," wailed Hattie. "And it is so fucking frustrating that I can’t kill her yet! She... Luca...." With a shake of her head, Hattie glared at Alicia. "Let her go for now. She’ll die soon enough."
"NO one makes you cry," grunted Tank as he lifted Alicia just enough so that the ledge of the window wouldn’t be able to stop her from falling.
"I’m not saying it again," growled Hattie, her voice sounding like a pissed off kitten. Dimitri hid his smile in her hair, but Tank wasn’t so lucky. The smile firm on his face, he flung Alicia away from the window, sending her sprawling onto the floor.
"Run, little mouse," he sneered, stalking toward the other woman. "Go hide in your hole and hope to the Devil that I don’t find you again. The next time I do, the ending won’t be the same. Understand?"
Frantically, Alicia nodded her head and scrambled out of the apartment, leaving Hattie and two of her men staring down at Luca.
"I’m guessin’ dere is a story ta tell," grunted Dimitri, crossing his arms in front of his chest. "So... tell it."
Luca rose to his feet, cracking his neck from side to side. "I haven’t seen you in 10,000 years, and this is the shit that you pull? Who’s the new guy?"
Once again, both men turned to look at Hattie. "From what I can tell, both Greed and Luca have lost their memories... or their minds... it’s hard to tell."
