Chapter 438: You Might Want To Be Terrified

"Wanna run dat by me again?" demanded Ronan, blinking rapidly as he tried to figure out what Greed was talking about. "Kid with a God complex?"

"Little girl, I think Wrath called her Hattie? Anyway, she popped in like a fucking genie and promised to grant me a wish. If that isn’t a God complex, then what is?" demanded Greed, looking between his brothers.

Something was different about them, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.

Letting out a long sigh, Greed paused for a moment to regroup. He was the tactician, the second in command when Pride was unavailable. He needed to be calm and think things through... rationally.

He couldn’t keep reacting to everything.

"Sorry," he grunted at last when none of his brothers spoke. "My meat sack was given something, and now neither one of us has any memories for the past four years. I’m scrambling to catch up, but every time I think I have a handle on it, the rug gets pulled out from under my feet and I’m left... not myself."

Pride nodded his head for a moment before speaking. "So, if you only lost your memories from four years ago, then it’s understandable to be off balance. But you know Hattie. We’ve been speaking to her for the last 17 years."

Greed cocked his head to the side as he turned to look at Pride. "I don’t remember that," he finally admitted.

"Well," smirked Gluttony. "This is either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at things," he announced as he sat down on the couch. Sloth was already on it, drifting off to sleep with a pissed off look on his face. "If you don’t remember any part of Hattie, then that kicks you out of the running. I, for one, am perfectly happy not having to share her attention with yet another Sin."

"You know it doesn’t work like that," sneered Pride as he gave Gluttony the side eye. "Hattie has a place for all of us in her heart. She might not know what she is feeling or how to express it, but if you look close enough, it’s plain to see."

Gluttony shrugged his shoulders as Pride turned his attention back to Greed. "What’s your plan?" he asked. "Do you even have one?"

"World domination seems like a fun idea," smirked Greed, his eyes brightening as he thought about his original plan. "We each take a continent, build our own armies, and destroy anyone and everyone who stands in our way."

"Spoken like Greed," sneered Sloth, not bothering to open his eyes. "I agree with Hattie... world domination is way too much work and effort. I’m all for burning down the world for her, but let’s keep to this side of the hemisphere."

The Sins around him, except for Greed, all nodded their heads in agreement. "Yeah, let’s create a world where Hattie can live and play as she wants to," smiled Gluttony, his eyes shining.

"The Devil’s Playground," agreed Lust, finally interjecting into the conversation. He hadn’t bothered to speak up before, simply because he agreed with Gluttony. If Greed was going to walk around with a stick up his ass, then it was better to not have him around.

"I hear Antarctica is nice this time of year," smiled Lust with an innocent look on his face. "Maybe you should go there. Dominate all the penguins and start your own army of the weird, flightless birds in tuxedos. The rest of us will hold down the fort here."

"You are an idiot," sneered Greed, turning up his nose at Lust.

"Naw," replied the other Sin, a bright smile on his face even as he went over to the island and hopped up on the counter. "That’s you for forgetting the most important being in all three realms. I mean, that is a whole new level of dumbfuckery that I didn’t even know you had in you."

"So, it’s a thing? She is the Devil, and you are all her willing slaves?" muttered Greed, studying his brothers even as his mind continued to sort through the information in front of him.

"Yes," nodded Envy, a bright smile on his face. "Jealous?"

Greed didn’t say a word, but the look of disgust on his face didn’t need words to get his feelings across. The only problem was that deep inside of him, in a place that he refused to acknowledge, he did agree with Envy.

He was completely jealous of the fact that his brothers all had a new connection to the Devil and the people around her. He was jealous that he was on the outside, looking in...

He just didn’t know how to change that.

"You Eric?" announced Dimitri as he strolled into the largest office in the security building. He looked at the man sitting behind the big desk, and wondered, not for the first time, what Hattie saw in the human.

"We’ve already established that," sighed Eric, putting down the file in his hands. "What brings you here? Is Hattie okay?"

"For now," replied Dimitri, pulling a chair away from the desk and sitting down. "But she sent me to see you. How are things going with the bug spray? We are going to need it sooner rather than later, and she has no idea if it will even work against the bugs."

Eric blinked at Dimitri. "We can always go see Adam, if that helps. I really don’t know anything about the spray. What kind of bugs are we even talking about? Mosquitoes? Spiders? I just don’t see those becoming a big thing..."

"Look," grunted Dimitri, already done with people who didn’t give Hattie the proper respect. "If Hattie says that we need it, then we need it. According to her, we are dealing with centipedes from a prehistoric jungle the size of a hand that take over a human’s bodies, insert a bunch of eggs, and let the babies eat the very much alive humans from the inside out. Now, that doesn’t affect me and mine, since we aren’t exactly human. But you? You might want to be terrified."

"That’s cute," replied Eric, coming to his feet. Holding out his hand, he indicated for Dimitri to go ahead of him. "You think I’m human."
