Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 448: Death Comes For Thee
Chapter 448: Death Comes For Thee
Alicia narrowed her eyes as she studied Bishop. There was a small amount of blood bleeding from his ears, telling her that she had been effective to a certain amount. Curious, she directed even more power at Bishop.
"You will obey me," she hissed, stepping forward. "Kill your friend, and then kill yourself." In some cases, she had to dumb down her commands. Too many at once could overload a person’s brain.
Bishop’s body turned tense, his hands twitching at his sides. Like it was completely against his will, his hands raised until they were, once again, clutching his skill. The smile on his face had completely disappeared, only to be replaced with a painful expression.
Blood started to drip from his nose as Libby made a soft sound of distress from within her mother’s protective embrace. Even Pride looked at him with concern on his face.
"Yes," hissed Alicia, her eyes going wide with madness as she stepped forward. Her head was held high like she was some type of queen stepping up to take out her enemy. "Obey me. Stop resisting, and you will live."
Everyone was looking at Bishop as his knees buckled. With sick fascination, they waited for him to obey the command. However, with his knee inches away from the floor, he froze.
"Did you really think that it would work?" he demanded, coming to his feet. Wiping away the blood from his nose, he cracked his neck from side to side. "Pride told you that it wouldn’t. And yet, you still had to try. I would give you points for perseverance, but at this point, you are just pathetic."
"I told you, your powers won’t work on him," said Pride, the half smirk on his face promising pain. "Not to mention, he is one of mine. While he might not have a strong spirit power, he does have enough to shield against your attempts."
"I don’t understand," whispered Alicia as she staggered back. "It should have worked."
"You could always try again," sneered Pride, coming to his feet. "I hear the third time’s a charm. Who knows, maybe it will work." freёnovelkiss.com
Alicia shook her head in denial even as she pulled a black rectangular box from her pocket. "You won’t win. I won’t let you win. I am the main character in this story. You are all just the NPCs that are meant to obey."
Pride raised an eyebrow and even Bishop had to snort at that statement. "If this was the old world, I would recommend a good shrink," suggested Bishop with a shake of his head. "But I don’t think even they could fix you."
"Do you know what this is?" asked Alicia, composing herself once again.
"A new type of lipstick?" sneered Pride. To his credit, it was only the size of her palm and did look like a tube of the stuff.
"It’s one of Adam’s inventions. Apparently, we have a lot of lightning users on base, and the extra energy was used to create this. It’s similar to a taser, but instead of needing to be in direct contact with the other person, I just have to press this single button."
As if to demonstrate, she swung around and pointed the device at Bishop. Pressing a button, she sent a bolt of lightning directly at the man.
The energy blast hit Bishop square in the chest, throwing him back against the wall with a crash. Smoke rose from the impact point. And for a long, breathless second, no one moved, stunned at the demonstration.
It seemed like an eternity but might have only been a moment before Bishop stood up and brushed off his shirt. Cocking his head to the side, he opened the palm of his right hand. A ball of lightning appeared, small at first, before becoming bigger and bigger.
"That’s new," he muttered, looking at Pride.
"You’re a pride demon," shrugged the Sin. "I’m thinking that your two base powers are spirit and lightning, just like mine. Maybe the bolt kickstarted the lightning power."
"Huh," grunted Bishop as he continued to stare at his palm. "Leave it to demons to have all the fun powers."
"You can always wish for more," chuckled Pride. "But I can’t guarantee that you will like the results."
"Lightning is good enough for me," assured Bishop, his attention turning back to Alicia. "Round two, bitch."
Without further warning, he cocked his arm back and threw the ball of lightning that was now the size of a baseball. Alicia screamed loudly as time seemed to freeze. However, before it could reach her, someone raced in front of her.
"What?" she gasped as she stared at Réne’s back. "Why?"
However, the other man couldn’t utter a word. His eyes were wide as if he couldn’t figure out why he had protected her like that. Opening his mouth, he tried to say something, anything, but the words wouldn’t come out.
Looking at Bishop, stunned, Réne dropped to his knees. Alicia, finally regaining her senses, grabbed him from behind and hugged him. "This shouldn’t be the way," she said, her voice hoarse with unshed tears. "We were supposed to stand at the top of the world. We were supposed to live forever. How could you die?"
"Because he took a strike met for you," replied Pride, even as Réne struggled to breathe. "I told you he had a few redeeming qualities. It was one of the reasons why I had originally chosen him as my meat sack. I appreciated his loyalty. However, only an idiot would remain blindly loyal to someone who had betrayed him multiple times."
Sophia gasped even as Libby started sobbing in her arms. "I don’t understand," Sophia muttered, shaking her head. "I thought that..."
"Death comes for all," announced a new voice. "But most especially, Death comes for thee."
"Way to be dramatic," chuckled Pride, even as Alicia let out a whimper. "Everyone, I’d like you to meet the Grim Reaper. Chang Xuefeng, meet everyone."
Chang Xuefeng blinked at Pride before turning to look at Bishop. "Side?"
"Hattie’s," announced Bishop, not missing a beat. Everyone knew the Grim Reaper wasn’t someone you wanted to fuck with, and even with all the agents of Death that Bishop had met in his countless of years, only this one terrified him.
Something wasn’t right with the creature in front of him.
