Chapter 293: Tricks (2)

Xavier turned the same dagger he had taken from Phillip and aimed it at his chest. He touched Phillip’s shoulder, keeping him steady as he stabbed him with the dagger.

"Humans are easy for all of us to manipulate," Xavier said, revealing his talent to the demon. "You should have picked a better host or come up out of the underworld in your own body."

Xavier pushed the dagger further. He didn’t have any other choice but to use the holy weapon on Phillip since it would be the only way to get rid of the demon. A demon could still linger in the dead.

Phillip yearned to move so he could push Xavier away. The little voice he heard was screaming, releasing a cry Phillip would never be able to forget as an unbearable pain overcame his body.

Phillip refused to believe he had been approached by a demon. What he said and heard could only be a God.

"If you were the one going around drawing those markings, I want you to die knowing that you caused the church to fall. Not only did you make it so vampires could enter a church, but you destroyed one of the few things demons fear," Xavier shared.

Xavier pulled out the dagger from Phillips’ chest. The demon would die, no longer able to return to the underworld since it was pierced by a holy weapon, but the churches losing their power meant this wouldn’t be the last they heard of demons in the kingdom.

It was the downside of a demon attaching itself to a human since they shared the pain of their host.

All that would be left now was the human who would soon die.

Xavier held onto the dagger since he intended to keep it. Two holy weapons in his hold were better than one, and since there was a chance there might be more demons attached to other humans, he needed to pass off the dagger to Isaac so they could go on a hunt.

Xavier turned away to make his way to the palace. There would be no way for Phillip to survive, so now, he had to make his way to the palace before heading back to the estate to protect Selene.

Phillip regained control of his body once Xavier looked away. He placed his hand over the wound, which made his body feel like it was burning up. "I am a man of God," he told Xavier.

He was the man who was sent to lead this kingdom to a better future. The man who would sit on the throne as king. He was not a man tricked by a demon.

"It was a God," Phillip said, holding onto his beliefs that he was still pure.

It was the others who strayed from their faith and needed to be killed. If there were any demons here, Phillip would kill them, not join them to destroy this town.

Xavier ignored Phillip. There was no point in trying to convince Phillip since he was manipulated by the demon.

As interesting as it would have been to hear how the demon managed to trick Phillip, Xavier had better things to do.

Xavier waited until Phillip took his last breath to then take to the sky.

Phillip could only end up in the underworld after allowing a demon to ruin him. There, his soul should be able to get the truth that he was partly to blame for the presence of evil in a church.

Xavier flew in search of Darius, who had shifted into a bat and headed back for the palace.

It wasn’t long before Xavier stepped foot on the palace grounds and immediately went in search of the king.

Meanwhile, Darius rushed to where the weapons were kept. He could see victory on the horizon.

Darius moved fast so he would not be gone for long to miss the ending of the fight between Xavier and the crazy human.

"King Darius," Michael said, stepping into Darius’s path to make him slow down.

Annoyed by the sight of Michael, Darius grabbed the annoying man and threw him toward a wall.

Michael was the second pureblood Darius wanted to kill tonight. It hadn’t settled in Michael’s mind yet that there was no place for him in the palace.

"You should have left after we last spoke. There is no chance you will become king," Darius said, deciding to spare a moment of his time to give Michael a good beating. Then he would use a holy weapon on Michael first. "Did you stop me thinking this was your big moment to fight me?"

Michael stood up, dusting off his pants. "I will let you get away with tossing me. I won’t let you get away so easily if you try to do it a second time. I already told you that I don’t fight you, not because I can’t beat you, but you are a waste of my time."

Michael started to walk away from Darius. He had only stopped Darius so the fool wouldn’t make it to where the holy weapons were locked away.

The one thing more dangerous than humans having holy weapons was Darius having one.

"I am not the one who is here to fight you. You have bigger problems to worry about. I wish I could say that it was nice to know you," Michael said, waving goodbye to Darius as he walked away.

"What?" Darius mumbled, puzzled by Michael’s words and behaviour. What was the point of stopping him if they were not going to fight?

Darius was not ready to let Michael get away so easily, so he started to follow Michael, but the small sound of someone behind him made him turn around to prevent an ambush.

Darius was unprepared for the person standing behind him.

"Vivienne," Darius whispered, his gaze slowly going down to her hand, which held onto the weapon which pierced his side.

"You made a fool of me for the last time," Vivienne said, enjoying every bit of the betrayal Darius experienced.

This was the happiest Vivienne had felt since she married Darius. She had stumbled upon Juliana first, who still tried to act like she was one of the king’s women. Juliana was unaware of Vivienne carrying a holy weapon, and unfortunately, met her end here in the palace she so desperately wanted to stay in.

After Darius, Vivienne planned to make her way to where Natalie was kept to keep her promise that Natalie’s child would never see the light of day.

Darius shoved Vivienne with enough force to send her to the floor. He pulled the weapon out of his side. He didn’t expect this from her. He had shown her kindness, yet she betrayed him by stabbing him with a holy weapon.

"You," Darius said, pointing the weapon at Vivienne.

If he was meant to die tonight, Darius was going to take Vivienne with him so she would never be free.
