Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 294: Tricks (3)
Chapter 294: Tricks (3)
Michael didn’t enjoy the show as much as he thought he would. It was satisfying to know that Darius was going to die and the throne would be empty, but it was disappointing how Vivienne planned to kill Darius.
’How did she let him get the weapon?’ Michael wondered.
Michael stayed back, letting the married couple fight each other. He never promised Vivienne that he would help her should Darius overpower her, and quite frankly, Michael would like to see Vivienne die alongside Darius since her hands weren’t clean.
"It hurts to be betrayed, doesn’t it? That is how I felt over and over in our marriage. You would smile in my face, dismissing what you were doing to me. It’s about time you feel what it is like to be betrayed by the person who should be able to trust most," said Vivienne.
What Darius felt now would be nothing like what he put her through. This was child’s play compared to everything he had done over the years, so Vivienne felt no remorse for stabbing him.
She wanted to do it again and again until Darius was no longer alive, then rip his head clean off his body.
Darius gripped the dagger. This wasn’t comparable to what he had done during their marriage. He never once tried to kill Vivienne.
"You," Darius said, his hands shaking due to the anger he felt.
The pain was quickly growing where Vivienne stabbed him and spreading throughout his body, weakening him. His body was growing weak, but he had enough strength to take her with him.
Darius walked over where Vivienne sat on the ground, ready to take her head off. To his surprise, Vivienne vanished before him. It was something he had never witnessed before.
"Where are you?" Darius yelled, looking around for where she would appear.
It took a moment for Darius to realise that he could still hear Vivienne. The sound of her feet and the feel of her breath close to him.
"You’re a little liar," Darius said since Vivienne had kept this talent from him. It would have been quite useful had he known about it. "You’ve had secrets, yet you criticised me for mine. How is that fair, Vivienne?" He asked, following the noise she made.
Darius smiled since Vivienne thought she was smart enough to sneak up on him, but soon winced as the pain increased.
His body would not heal fast enough to settle the pain that he felt. For the first time in his life, Darius felt what real pain was, and he could not bear it.
Upon turning one more time, Darius locked eyes with Michael. He had been so focused on Vivienne that he had not noticed Michael was still around.
"You," Darius said, realising that Michael had set this up along with Vivienne.
What kind of relationship did Michael have with Vivienne? Was Michael one of the men Vivienne wanted to take to her side? Or did these two have a history with each other, like Vivienne had with Xavier?
It was only now that Darius realised there might be so much Vivienne had been keeping from him.
Michael smiled, knowing it would piss off Darius even more. "It looks like it’s going to take more than one wound to kill you. We’ve got to aim for the heart."
"I can take off both of you. You had a holy weapon on your side, and I am still standing here alive," Darius said, still confident this night would go in his favour.
Michael looked behind Darius. The arrival of Xavier would certainly change Darius’s plans. "You’re a little late, aren’t you?"
Darius turned around and was immediately annoyed by Xavier’s presence. So much time was wasted because of Vivienne and Michael. He had missed Xavier’s fight with the deranged priest.
Darius laughed, looking back and forth between the two men while also listening for where Vivienne stood. "This is how you must do it? You must all attack me at once. You can admit it now that I am no simple pureblood. I am stronger than all of you, which is why I was chosen as king."
"No, none of us wanted to be king, so you were an easy pick. It is odd how you keep twisting the story to your liking. Should we be concerned for him?" Michael asked a very uninterested Xavier. "Oh. Why are you at my side?"
Michael expected Vivienne to appear near Xavier since they had a better relationship. Michael’s interest in Vivienne ran out now that she failed to kill Darius.
"He holds a holy weapon. I had to find somewhere to stand, and you were far closer," said Vivienne.
Vivienne felt safe now that Xavier had arrived. They weren’t close anymore, but Xavier should still care enough to protect her from Darius. Darius was the enemy to all of them, so it was time they worked together instead of arguing.
"Who’s the fool that let him get hold of a holy weapon?" Xavier said, looking beyond Darius to the pair.
Xavier could always count on there being someone to spoil his plans. He noticed that Darius was bleeding a lot, and it did not stop, which meant he was already stabbed by a holy weapon.
Unfortunately, it would take more than one stab to bring down a pureblood like Darius.
As much of a fool Darius was, he was still trained to use a weapon, so he could deliver a blow to Xavier with his holy weapon.
"You fear me," Darius said, since no one dared to approach him. "You are all talking about how I am weaker than you, yet you fear me now."
"I have never feared a shapeshifter," said Xavier.
Darius glared at Xavier for insulting his talent. "Your ability to fly isn’t special. Is that what the Blackthorns have been so excited about?" He asked, pressing his hand against the aching wound at his side.
For a moment, Darius thought he was going to cough up blood. He fought against it not to show weakness.
Regardless of how this night would end, Darius would not show any fear before Xavier. He was the only one who had a holy weapon in his possession, so he was at an advantage.
Seeing that no one was bold enough to attack, Darius laughed.
Vivienne regretted not doing her part properly. All she had to do was stab him repeatedly and watch him die.
Xavier grew bored of the talking and started to approach Darius, who stepped back at first.
"I have a holy weapon," Darius said, pointing the blade at Xavier.
"I have two," Xavier said, revealing the two weapons.
Darius frowned, surprised that he was not alone with the weapons. Why was it that Xavier always had the upper hand?
Darius cast his fears to the side and built the courage to attack. All he needed to do was land the blade in Xavier’s heart, and this would all be over.
