Chapter 154: Sleep With the Archduke?

Xion coughed lightly as his eyes skimmed past the next paragraph ... which was even more absurd.

He directly slammed the journal shut. His face felt like it was on fire. There was no way he was reading any of that to anyone ... Especially to Darius.

"Why did you stop?"

Xion didn’t turn around. "You’re too close. It’s making me ... uneasy."

A low, throaty chuckle rumbled from behind him. It was soft, yet rich enough to make Xion’s breath hitch.

He swallowed hard, unsure if he was more embarrassed by the sound or the fact that he’d just realized something dangerous.

He liked Darius’ voice... maybe even more than Allen’s.

Before he could dwell on that troubling thought, a finger slid down the back of his neck.

Xion’s whole body trembled from reflex.

"You have such a sensitive neck," Darius spoke lazily but the way there was an obvious smile seeping into his words, Xion knew his grace was definitely enjoying teasing him.

My ears are more sensitive... Xion thought but dared not say it aloud. This was already getting out of hand.

How?

Xion had no clue why he was always so flustered, why his heart was beating out of rhythm or why he just could not talk to the archduke like he would to Allen and Ray.

In the end, he chalked it all up to Darius being the archduke. After all, it was not easy to talk normally to someone who was a VIP among VIPs. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"Am I making you nervous, Xion? Or is it the way I look now?"

Xion did not reply. He did not need to. Both of them knew the answer.

Ever since Darius had changed forms, Xion barely looked at him. Xion kept their conversations short and avoided him unless absolutely necessary.

If he hadn’t taken to teasing him, Xion might have avoided him completely.

For the first time, the archduke wondered if he was truly that intimidating. And this time, he was not taking pleasure in the notion of it all.

"Come up here," Darius said, patting the space beside him.

Xion shook his head as he placed the journal on the side circular table. "I-I’ll go see what Noxian’s doing..."

He tried to stand, but his legs wobbled beneath him. Had he really been sitting that long? Just as he was about to make his escape, a strong grip caught his wrist.

In the next second, Xion found himself yanked back. He fell, his back sinking into the softness of the bed, and yet all he could focus on was green.

Those pale green eyes were staring at him.

Ah, no. They were narrowed, and Xion knew Darius was not happy.

Why is he angry...? Xion wondered. I was just giving him space so he could sleep properly...

"Sleep with me."

Xion stiffened. He squeezed his eyes shut, took a breath, and promptly regretted it.

Because now his mind decided to replay that scene. The one he really shouldn’t be thinking about right now.

Prince Valaria had whispered the exact same words to Sakura Mei. And the implication had definitely been sex.

Reze Valaria sure was not afraid to taint the holy place and the Saintes for his lust. What a sin!

Though the archduke was not like that. Darius, albeit a bit bigger... okay, a lot bigger now, was still the same Rael.

But... oh, lord, can someone stop his brain from overthinking? Because the handsome Darius was towering over him! And he was half naked!

The robe hung loosely off his shoulders, baring his muscular chest. And down... yeah, Xion wasn’t about to look down.

Even when he subconsciously wanted to push Darius away, he dared not let his hands wander.

If his grace just pinned his hands over his head, this might become one of those "scenes" from romance animes. Good thing it was not.

Xion tried to convince himself of that before daring to properly look at those smiling eyes.

Damn you for being handsome!

"I don’t think I can," Xion muttered weakly.

He had already spent the evening sleeping and then reading that chaotic excuse of a ’holy book’, which was mostly filled with its author’s... questionable thoughts.

Nonetheless, that was not the point. The point was, he wasn’t drowsy anymore.

"I can’t sleep." Darius’ voice dropped lower, softer. "Help me."

Xion blinked. "...Help you... how?" Should I give him sleeping medicine?

For that he would need to use Mikosa Ribitiyon’s dried buds, the same thing that had started all the mess in the first place.

"Just stay with me."

Darius mumbled something under his breath, and his body began to shift.

Before Xion’s eyes, the large archduke shrank down, his imposing form fading into the familiar small figure. It was sweet little Rael.

For a moment, Xion just stared.

He had not realized how much he missed Rael until now. Even if Xion never said it aloud, the way his eyes lit up gave him away.

And when Darius saw it, his lips twitched upward in victory.

There it is... Darius mused smugly as he flopped back onto the bed. He watched Xion. Now, he would not go looking for Noxian.

If you want a kid, I’ll give you one. So, you better stay where I can see you.

Xion, unaware of Darius’ bizarre inner monologue, subconsciously reached out, but just as he was about to reach, he hesitated.

His hand hovered in the mid-air, about to be taken back.

"I won’t hurt you, Xion," Darius muttered sleepily. "Not you."

That was enough for Xion’s fingers to finally brush through the silver strands. He started combing through them, running his fingers slowly down the silky locks.

It felt... nice.

Xion realized that other than Darius’ voice, he seemed to have a special fondness for his hair as well.

Those silvery strands were softer, like expensive refined silk, far too luxurious for someone commoner like him to touch.

"Why do you always style it like this?" Xion asked softly.

The Archduke didn’t answer right away as his attention was solely on a different aspect.

This feels so pleasant.

Xion’s touch, his gentle voice, his presence... everything about him was so soothing that Darius just wanted to lay there.

His body relaxed into the mattress. He let out a low, satisfied groan as he leaned into Xion’s touch.

"...Just because," Darius mumbled.

But it wasn’t just because.

At first, Darius had kept his hair long for his mother. He wanted to feel her fingers carding through it. Just the way she used to braid Talia’s hair.

Then he hated it.

He started loathing it when the foreign touch lingered on his skin more than necessary.

When he finally gained control of himself again, he never let anyone touch him.

Who in their right mind would dare style the devil archduke’s hair?

No one would even speak a word he went out bald or with some weird twisted braids.

They wanted to stay as far away as possible. Even Ray and the people who were his trusted mates would never dare to cross the boundary between the lord and his loyal subjects.

Except for one.

The silly kitten who had ignored those glaring rules and crossed that invisible line more than once. Xion had been so audacious that his actions had left even the battle-hardened Ray speechless.

And now Darius seemed to have got an addiction to Xion’s audacities.

They were adorable in their own way.

Darius opened his eyes for a brief moment, just to look at him.

Yeah... really cute...

Satisfied, he closed his eyes again.

Sleeping after seeing Xion’s face wasn’t a bad idea after all.
