Chapter 155: The Nightmare Begins

Xion’s long raven-black eyelashes fluttered as he woke up. His vision was hazy from sleep. He blinked in a daze as his surroundings slowly came into focus.

His head throbbed painfully, and his fingers instinctively reached up to rub his temples.

Wait... this place...

He was sitting at his old high school wooden desk. There was a familiar mess of notes and textbooks scattered across the surface.

The faded sticker of a cartoon cat on the corner of his notebook confirmed it was definitely his. But why did it feel as if something was not right?

Why am I here?

Xion’s fingers twitched as he flipped through the pages.

The numbers written on the page were today’s date. The rampant laughter and messy voices of the students were making his headache even more violently.

He looked around, his gaze skimmed past the faces of the students dressed in school uniform. They vaguely felt familiar as if he had seen them.

Of course, I have seen them. I study with them every day...

Xion answered his own confusion.

Although he recalled everything from his morning breakfast to his science class that was about to begin, there was this voice in his head that kept telling him that he had forgotten something very important.

But what?

As he tried to think, a vague image of a silver-haired beauty appeared in his mind.

Xion scoffed at his imagination. Perhaps it was the side effect of watching anime until late at night.

Shaking his head out of his jumbled mess, Xion tried to focus on the notes he had jotted down just a few minutes ago.

"Oi, Xion!"

A sharp tug on his shoulder made him wince. He turned just in time to see Hira Takumi grinning at him with all teeth and smugness.

"Takumi! Stop that!" Xion hissed.

His hand went to rub his aching shoulder. All the while, the dull pounding in his skull spiked even more due to Takumi’s shaking.

It was as if needles were digging in his head.

"You look like a ghost." Takumi frowned, then grabbed Xion by the wrist and yanked him to his feet. "C’mon, go to the clinic before you pass out on me. I’ll tell your brother you’re sick."

Xion knew arguing was pointless. Takumi never took ’no’ for an answer, especially if it involved his brother.

Who made Takumi such a diehard fan of his family anyway?

Well... not like he was the only one. Half the school was weirdly obsessed with his brother and wanted to have a good relationship with Senior Aijawa.

And honestly, he was not any different. Yet despite being family, Xion was even worse than Takumi when it came to being closer to his brother.

With a tired sigh, Xion trudged toward the clinic. Sitting in class with this terrible headache was really not an option.

But as he moved through the crowded hallway, whispers began to follow him.

They were just faint murmurs at first, but they grew louder and louder until they were impossible to ignore.

"That’s him... the underwear thief."

"Eww, pervert!"

"He tried to do something like that to Aijawa-senpai!" ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

Xion’s steps faltered. His stomach churned as cold sweat dripped down his spine.

What... what are they talking about?

"Let’s strip him and upload it online! That’ll teach him not to mess with Aijawa-senpai!"

Xion spun around in disbelief and locked eyes with Takumi. His best friend was still smiling smugly as if this was all just some sick joke.

No.

Panic surged in his chest. Xion bolted.

His legs carried him through the hallway at full speed, but the crowd seemed to close in from all sides.

The shouting grew louder, blending into a chaotic mess of jeers and curses.

"Don’t let him escape!"

He stumbled down the stairs, barely catching himself on the railing.

His breath was already coming in ragged gasps, meanwhile, his heart hammered against his ribs.

The school gates... He just had to reach the gates.

Almost there... almost-

A hand seized his wrist, and he was yanked back into the hell.

"No!" Xion thrashed wildly. "Don’t touch me! Stay away!"

More hands grabbed at him. Some were tugging at his clothes, and some were twisting his arms.

His pulse roared in his ears, drowning out everything else.

The ground started shaking beneath him until the school walls distorted and warped into themselves.

Suddenly, his eyes snapped open.

His chest heaved with each desperate gasp for air, and tears streaked down his face. His vision was blurred, but even through the haze, he could feel it.

Someone was holding him!

"Don’t touch me... let me go..." Xion’s voice came out hoarse, almost strained due to his shaky cries. He thrashed wildly, desperate to break free from the arms that held him like a cage.

"Hey... hey, look at me." The voice was familiar, and unlike Xion’s frantic thrashing, it was calm and steady, "It’s just me, Xion. No one’s hurting you."

Xion blinked rapidly, trying to get rid of the blurriness in panic. His hazy sight cleared just enough to make out the figure in front of him.

Darius.

The archduke’s arms were wrapped tightly around Xion, holding him steady against his body.

Xion let out a broken sob before slowly calming his heavy breathing. His hands, which had been pushing Darius away moments ago, clenched tightly into the fabric of the archduke’s robe.

At any other time, Xion would have wondered when the archduke changed his body into a bigger one.

However, right now, all he wanted was a little space where he felt safe, and Rael was exactly that.

Without thinking, Xion buried his face in Darius’ chest. His hands tightly clung to the archduke like Darius were a lifeline he couldn’t afford to lose.

And maybe, for Xion, he really was just as precious.

Being near Darius meant, he was not in the modern world, it meant he was far away from those dirty hands tearing his clothes, clawing at his skin.

"It’s okay," Darius murmured softly as he patted Xion’s back. His earlier clumsy actions were now smoother.

He held the trembling healer closer, "I’m here," he whispered ever so gently. "I’ll always be here. No one can hurt you when I am here, okay?"

Xion didn’t answer. He couldn’t. His throat was too tight for words to come out, and all that escaped were broken whimpers.

The haunting flashes of his past were still drilling into his mind, leaving his chest tight and suffocating.

But Darius is here. And for now, that was enough for Xion.
