Chapter 121: The Marshal’s Condition

Cure the Marshal?

"Did something happen to him?" Qin An asked.

"For now no..." Ji Wen sighs in frustration. "But the Marshal had already suffered from the riots. Since he was young, he was already sent to the frontline to fight with the Zergs, constantly sending himself to danger that almost took his life just to protect everyone. He might not say this to us but we’ve been always worrying about his condition."

Qin An didn’t answer so Ji Wen became worried.

"Young man, the Marshal is really an important person and he needs to be cured. How about this, do you want something perhaps? I can help you with anything, just help us." Ji Wen’s voice contained pleading and he was about to say something when the door abruptly opened and He Li went inside wearing an extremely cold face.

"Ji Wen."

Both of them were stunned and Ji Wen’s face turned pale and he quickly stood up.

"Marshal."

"Leave." He Li sternly speaks.

"But Marshal—" Ji Wen’s voice was not finished when he felt the Marshal’s coercion. His mouth shut subconsciously and he could only hang his head low.

"Yes, Marshal." He directly went outside the room and let the two speak.

The room was engulfed with silence. He Li didn’t say anything and just walked towards the tinted glass wall and looked outside while Qin An remained seated.

Qin An’s eyes went up to He Li’s head upon remembering what Ji Wen said and saw the dark mist hovering on his head. From what he already saw from the people here, it’s true that the latter’s head has the heaviest resentment. It was dark as if the night was getting deeper and a heavy storm might burst any seconds without them knowing.

The mental pollution was getting too dangerous and he knew that all of them felt as if time would tick faster if this situation would stay longer.

And to answer Ji Wen, can he cure him? Yes... if he was in his original body.

The resentment around He Li’s body is too deep for him to handle. Judging from what happened to him, he cannot excessively use spiritual energy nor he can even be immune to their attacks anymore which is very disadvantageous for him to work as the only grim reaper in this era.

His body was still adapting slowly to these changes and he cannot do anything for now other than waiting.

If he were to help him, at best he could only make his headache ease more than just what inhibitors can do.

Qin An sighs.

"I can’t completely cure you for now," he directly states the truth to him. "It’ll take time for I don’t know how long."

He Li turns his head to him. "My condition is still fine. I know my own body."

Stubborn. Qin An thought but didn’t say that. This man has an obvious arrogance and pride in his body. He won’t not let himself show weakness to anybody even if it means for healing himself.

"How was your investigation going?" he asked instead to change the topic. He Li finally turns his body and walks to where Ji Wen had seated and place his hand on the desk, tapping his fingers lightly rhythmically.

"It’s true." After a few seconds of silence, He Li spesaks. "What you told us has been verified and validated from our investigation results."

Qin An raised his brow as if he had expected it. "What are your plans?"

That question made He Li stop from what his hands were doing. "I supposed it is me who has to ask that question." and look at him directly in his eyes. "What are your plans in this world?"

"I need some conditions before I can help you." Qin An doesn’t want to take around the bush and state his conditions. "I need a proper identity. You’ve seen my information. Aside from the information that I am an orphan, my background was blank. I think it needs to be filled up to avoid problems again in the future."

He Li nods, that’s an easy condition. "I will have them prepare a fake background story of your life and send it to you before approving it to the system."

"Thanks. For the second one, I want to look at how you make inhibitors and where your materials came from."

He Li didn’t immediately agree this time. "Why?"

"The energy is quite similar to the spiritual energy that I have. I need to know where you got the materials and maybe it can help."

An unfamiliar word caught He Li’s attention. "Spiritual energy?"

"Yes. Grim reapers have the ability to fight with the dark elements such as the evil ghosts and resentments or the pollution in this world other than healing." Qin An begins to explain how a grim reaper works to balance the world and how they guide the dead souls to their afterlife.

"..." Throughout the conversation, He Li didn’t intervene and was just listening. Hearing some unfamiliar new words and the words which he only knew as part of the Earth’s culture made He Li’s eyes narrowed.

He didn’t expect that those histories were actually true. What Professor Jian said was true. They will never know how large the universe is.

"I don’t know if there are humans who can see souls here like in the past so I need your help to solve their unfinished business and guide them afterwards." Qin An added.

"Yes." He Li agrees.

"I think that’s all for now." Qin An motion his hand to him. "What are your conditions?"

He Li tapped his fingers again before speaking. "First of all, you don’t have to worry about the soul’s condition, we can help you as much as we can. Second, since you are still a minor and according to the law, even if you are capable, we cannot force you unless it is in certain situations like emergencies. We have many soldiers waiting but it is still your decision and we can wait."

He Li was talking about Qin An in this competition because after what happened, he also took time watching all the footage wherein he was seen and saw his eagerness to stay in this competition. Even if the young man is having a hard time, it’s clear that he is slowly getting used to it and is even working harder to improve.

He may have no clue but everyone can see he is slowly liking the stage.

Qin An’s forehead creased. "Is being a minor an important matter?"

"Yes. The law stipulated that minors need guidance especially for special circumstances that are very important to one’s life. And you, you don’t have a guardian."

Qin An was speechless. Does someone like him need a guardian just because he is a ’minor’?!

"What if I told you I’m not even a minor?"

This time it was He Li who paused. "What do you mean? Did you fake your age? Why? In your circumstances it was better to be legal to find jobs, right?"

Qin An looks at him as if he knew it so why would he join this competition in the first place?

He Li sighs. "Okay. Do you want to change it? How old are you and I can—"

"I don’t know."

"... Excuse me?"

Qin An’s face was very casual as he dropped a bombshell confession. "I’ve lived for more than thousands of years that I couldn’t exactly remember."

And in a rare moment again, He Li’s expression cracked.
