Born Into Villain's Family: I Have a 200\% Rebate System-Chapter 34: Invisible Force
Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Invisible Force
A small update had happened to the site.
A new column in the left corner, below the header had appeared.
Balance.
What surprised Aurora was the balance. It was showing as $95420.
The exact amount she should have after filling in details in the rebate system.
’Maybe there is a glitch.’ Aurora thought with a smug expression.
She hurriedly filled out the details.
What did you buy? And for whom: Father, Rolex Watch.
How much did it cost you?: $45210
After clicking the submit button, Aurora waited for the magic to happen.
"Transaction failed. Reason: Rebate for the item has already been issued."
Aurora frowned at the screen, her smug expression fading into mild annoyance.
"Figures," she muttered under her breath, tapping her fingers against the desk.
She refreshed the page, half-hoping the system would suddenly change its mind. It didn’t.
The same message—Transaction failed. Reason: Rebate for the item has already been issued.—mocked her from the screen.
"Maybe the site has been updated?" Aurora wondered.
However the annoyance soon faded, followed by joy.
$95,420!
She has reached a whopping $95,420!
It was enough to help Lucas and Adriana pay off half of their university fees!
But how...how would she give this money to her parents?
Should she directly tell them about the rebate system?
For some reason, Aurora rejected the idea. Even she didn’t know as to why she felt the need to do so.
"No...the straight way would be to tell my siblings first," Aurora muttered.
Out of all, Lucas was the second smartest. Of course, the first smartest was she.
Aurora soon found Lucas. He was busy with some assignments.
"Brother."
Lucas lifted his eyes and asked casually, "What is it?"
Aurora opened her mouth, fully prepared to explain everything about the rebate system, but the words refused to come.
It was as if her tongue had turned to lead, her thoughts suddenly tangled and incoherent.
She frowned, trying again. "I found this—"
Silence.
Her own voice betrayed her, the sentence dying before it could even form properly.
Lucas raised an eyebrow. "You... found what?"
Aurora hesitated. Her heart pounded, confusion creeping up her spine.
Why couldn’t she just say it? Why did her throat feel tight, her mind sluggish?
Brushing off the unsettling sensation, she reached for a blank sheet of paper on his desk. If she couldn’t say it, she’d write it.
With quick, determined strokes, she began to scribble:
Rebate system website—
Her hand jerked to a stop mid-sentence.
Aurora’s breath hitched as she stared at the half-formed letters.
No matter how much she tried to will her fingers into action, they simply wouldn’t obey.
The pen hovered, frozen, as if some invisible force had seized control of her muscles.
Lucas, who had been watching with mild curiosity, now looked genuinely concerned. "Aurora?"
Aurora swallowed hard and tried again, gripping the pen tighter.
Reba—
Her fingers twitched, the ink smudging uselessly across the page. The words refused to take shape, dissolving into an incoherent mess.
She let out a shaky breath, staring at the paper in stunned disbelief.
What the hell was happening?
Lucas, now more intrigued than confused, leaned forward. "Are you okay? What exactly are you trying to write?"
Aurora shook her head, frustration bubbling in her chest.
She wasn’t going to let this stop her. If speaking and writing weren’t options, then she’d show him directly.
She grabbed his wrist and pulled him out of his chair. "Just—come with me."
Lucas blinked in surprise but followed as Aurora dragged him to her desktop.
She moved swiftly, fingers flying over the keyboard as she navigated to the rebate website.
But the moment she hit Enter, the browser returned a blank screen.
She refreshed the page. Nothing.
Her heartbeat quickened. This wasn’t possible. The site had been working perfectly just minutes ago.
"Come on," she muttered, reloading again.
Still nothing.
Lucas crossed his arms, watching her with an amused yet baffled expression.
"Aurora, are you feeling okay? You’re acting like a hacker whose secret database just got wiped."
Aurora clenched her jaw, her pulse roaring in her ears.
This wasn’t normal. This wasn’t right. She had just seen the balance and had just tested the rebate submission.
It had been real—hadn’t it?
She looked at Lucas, her hands trembling slightly. He was waiting, clearly expecting an explanation.
But she had none.
"I—I don’t know," she admitted, voice barely above a whisper. "I swear, it was just here. I saw it. The balance, the sy...ugh..the sy...ugh."
Aurora clutched her neck and tried to spit out the words but couldn’t say it all.
At last, she could only give up and smiled pathetically,
"If I said I have something important to tell you, but couldn’t, will you believe me?"
Lucas studied her intently, his usual amused expression shifting into something more serious.
He leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms.
"You’re acting weird, Aurora," he said carefully. "Like, really weird."
Aurora let out a shaky breath, frustration and unease warring inside her.
Some unknown force was restraining her from telling about the rebate system.
Suddenly an idea appeared in her mind, maybe if she didn’t mention the rebate system and used various words to explain, the restraint would not act up.
"Brother as long I gift you something, I will receive re...re...re...ugh! Double! Yes, double...eh? Double what? Ugh...
Lucas arched an eyebrow, his curiosity now fully piqued. "Double what?" he prompted, his tone half-teasing, half-concerned.
Aurora pressed her lips together, frustration mounting.
It took her some while to remember before she reached a theory.
The moment she veered too close to the truth, something clamped down on her ability to articulate it.
Yet, when she framed it vaguely, she could still speak.
It was as if some unseen force was policing her words, allowing only ambiguous hints to slip through.
She tried to speak again and finally was able to say,
"If I buy something for you, I get twice the value back."
