Born Into Villain's Family: I Have a 200\% Rebate System-Chapter 36: Recordings
Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Recordings
Adam rubbed his forehead, looking exhausted.
"You kids heard everything, huh?"
Lucas stepped forward.
"Yeah, and we can’t just sit back and do nothing."
Aurora clenched her fists.
"Dad, this isn’t fair! They’re trying to scam you!"
Adriana nodded.
"We should fight back."
Adam sighed.
"I know it’s unfair, but what can we do? I don’t have proof. Without evidence, it’s just my word against his."
Theodore, the quietest of the siblings, suddenly spoke up. "What if we find proof?"
Adam looked at him, surprised. "How?"
Theodore adjusted his glasses.
"The guy brought in a different car every time, right? That means he goes to other shops too. Maybe one of them has security footage. Or maybe someone else has noticed something suspicious."
Olivia’s eyes lit up. "That’s a good idea! If we can prove he’s done this before, maybe we can prove he’s lying."
Mary nodded. "That’s worth a try."
Lucas crossed his arms.
"Also, Dad, don’t sell that Rolex yet. Something’s weird about it. You don’t even know who gave it to you, right?"
Adam hesitated, then nodded.
Aurora decided to stay silent. She couldn’t tell everyone that she was the one who had gifted the Rolex watch, right?
Adam, Lucas, Aurora, Adriana, Olivia, and Theodore walked into the repair shop together. The place smelled of oil and metal, and the sound of tools clanking filled the air. Mark, the repair shop owner, was standing near the counter, flipping through some papers. When he looked up and saw them, his face stiffened. His fingers twitched slightly, and his eyes darted around nervously.
"Adam... what’s this about?" Mark asked, his voice uneasy.
"You bringing all your kids here to start a fight?"
Adam frowned but stayed calm.
"We just want some answers, Mark."
Lucas stepped forward, his arms crossed over his chest.
His voice was cold and firm.
"Show us the surveillance footage from the last twenty days."
Mark blinked and quickly tried to act casual. He shook his head and sighed. "Sorry, kid. The cameras were down. Maintenance issues, you know how it is."
Lucas smirked, his eyes sharp.
"Oh? Then show us the footage from the last two months. In that time, the cameras were working fine, weren’t they?"
Mark’s face paled.
He opened and closed his mouth as if struggling to find an excuse.
The other siblings watched him carefully, waiting for his reaction.
Lucas took a step closer, his voice dropping to a serious tone.
"If you don’t pull up those records, I’ll go to the police myself and file a complaint about yesterday’s incident. Even if it takes a year, I’ll fight to prove my father’s innocence."
This was the only reason why Adam didn’t go to the police.
If a police complaint was filed then the matter would be dragged into court. They have to use the money to hire a lawyer.
Lawyers were expensive.
Not to mention their victory wasn’t even guaranteed.
However, if Mark truly doesn’t show them the surveillance, then even if they have to spend a lot of money, Lucas is determined to take the legal path.
He couldn’t bear to see his father wronged.
Even other siblings had the same thought.
Mark’s hands clenched into fists, and his forehead glistened with sweat.
He glanced at Adam, then at the group of determined young faces staring at him.
After a long pause, he exhaled sharply.
"Fine. Give me a minute."
He walked to the back of the shop, opened a small door, and disappeared inside. A few minutes later, he returned with a hard drive. He plugged it into the computer and pulled up the footage.
"Here. You happy now?" Mark grumbled.
Lucas wasted no time. He pulled out a USB and copied all the footage from the past three months.
The siblings gathered around the screen as the videos loaded.
Olivia whispered, "We’ll have to check these carefully later."
Theodore however was confused.
Why were they even copying the footage?
How was it going to help them?
Lucas nodded, then turned back to Mark.
"Tell me something, Mark. My father worked here for twenty years. You’ve known him for that long. Did you really believe he would steal from a customer?"
This was something Lucas couldn’t digest no matter what.
How come Mark not know about his own employee?
Adam had dedicated 20 years of his life to the repair shop. Shouldn’t the owner have the least bit of trust in Adam?
Mark looked away, his jaw tightening.
"People change," he muttered.
"Maybe Adam got greedy. He was shamelessly begging me for a $100,000 loan. What was I supposed to think?"
The siblings froze.
"What?" Adriana’s voice came out in a whisper. "Dad, is that true?"
Adam stiffened. "It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it."
Lucas narrowed his eyes. "$100,000 is a lot of money. Why did you need it, Dad?"
Adam quickly grabbed his jacket. "This isn’t important right now. Let’s go."
Mark chuckled darkly, leaning against the counter.
"Running away now, Adam? Why don’t you tell them the truth? What was so urgent that you needed that kind of money?"
Adam shot Mark a warning look. "Enough, Mark."
The siblings exchanged uneasy glances.
Aurora felt her stomach tighten.
Something was off.
Their father had always been proud, never one to ask for help unless absolutely necessary. What could have pushed him to ask for such a huge amount?
Theodore spoke softly. "Dad, we just want to understand."
Adam sighed, rubbing his temples. "It’s complicated."
"Then explain it," Olivia pressed. "We’re your family."
Mark chuckled again, clearly enjoying Adam’s discomfort.
"Guess your kids don’t know everything about you, huh?"
Lucas turned to glare at him. "Stay out of this, Mark."
Mark raised his hands in mock surrender. "Hey, I’m just saying. It’s interesting, that’s all."
Adam took a deep breath. "Let’s go. We have more important things to do."
The siblings hesitated but followed their father out of the repair shop.
Behind them, Mark shouted,
"Kids if you ever want to know about your father’s reality come back to my shop."
