Chapter 282: Afloat

MONTHS LATER

"Good morning, everyone. As we all know, this is a day we’ve been looking forward to for the past week since classes stopped holding." The detective paused for a moment as his gaze sweep across the sea of students filling up the large hall.

"Everyone , please welcome the prestigious beloved jewel of the country and ruler of the warlock clan–, please give it up for King Labyrinth Blaise Shadowthorn"

A round of applause went through the crowd as I ducked in a deep breath and began to walk towards the stage, heading for the mic in the middle of it. The applause grew even louder and as my eyes wandered through the crowd of students I was currently standing in front of, I felt a wave of surreal feeling surge through my entire body.

"Hello," I began tentatively after the applause died down. My heart was still racing but at this point, I’ve thankfully gotten way better with speaking in front of a crowd. In the last six months, I’ve done a whole lot of that, more than I could count, so it’s safe to say that practice does make perfect.

"As you all know, a lot of things have gone down in the past six months, especially since we all know the owner of carnivals is now dead." I paused for a moment as a crowd began to murmur to themselves. I could pick out some familiar faces in the crowd, I’ve gone to school here with most of them after all.

My hair was currently white, and my eyes blue, I didn’t need a disguise anymore. Right now; everyone here knew my identity, not just because Taylor revealed it one time, but because after Blaze and I successfully took down both our fathers, the whole news circulated; the actual truth came to light, and my name was vindicated. I wasn’t a wanted murderer any longer.

I was now a savior.

"With the owner of carnivals being dead, I believe it’s only right that this school closes down as well, since it was the root of some many problems in the past years.

We all know the setting of this school isn’t normal, and we all know a lot of wrong, disturbing things goes down behind the walls of this school as well. Bullying that leads to death, violence, sexual assault and so many more... some of you are victims of these mentioned crimes, and some of you are responsible for them, because you were indulged by the setting of the school, and the money behind your family’s names." I paused and exhaled slowly, and then I squared my jaw.

"From today henceforth; there shall be no more carnivals high school. I’ve teamed up with the authorities of this school and I shed light into so many things that goes on in this school, so many disturbing things."

"All the higher ups have been arrested and will spend decades in jail. Those of you guilty of sexual assault in here will go to juvie and attain for your crimes. If you’re above eighteen then you’ll do time in jail. I hope this can be a lesson to everyone, and I hope that you’d all solely focus on your studies at the next school you’d get transferred to."

"You’ll get transferred to different schools, so your studies won’t be affected. Your parents won’t come to collect you, the authorities would handle transfering you home themselves today. If you have any questions, please ask away." I waved at the crowd this time once I was done.

Once upon a time, the crowd would have laughed so hard at me attempting to address them with a mic. However, now, the whole crowd stared at me with so much respect. It was almost unbelievable how so many things managed to change in only a few months.

"Would we really go to jail?" One of the students asked and I resisted the urge to snort.

"If you’re over eighteen and you’ve murdered someone or assaulted someone sexually before, then yes, you will." I responded and a wave of murmur went through the entire crowd after that. I stood still and patiently waited for more questions, and I answered them patiently and as best as I could.

A timid looking boy raised his hand high for a question this time and all eyes were on him in the next moment.

"It’s just that... Blaze hasn’t been seen in months and I- I was wondering if he’s... dead?" The student asked admidst the eyes on him and at once, everything went still inside of me.

I blinked slowly, suddenly finding it hard to breathe. I suddenly couldn’t hear anything except a loud roaring sound in my ears. My eyesight went hazy and I instantly ducked my head because I feared i was starting to get teary right here in the front of this crowd of students, because someone asked me about Blaze, my mate.

I was still struggling to gather myself when someone stepped up beside me and the familiar scene instantly engulfed me.

It was Kim.

I stepped away from the mic and he instantly replaced my spot, and I realized he came to rescue me from this moment before I break down. I flashed him a grateful look and walked off the stage where Roy and a few other authorities were waiting for me at. A few reporters were also present, because this whole thing was currently being recorded to be shown to the whole world. Some of the reporters instantly approached me but the authorities held them away.

Roy was blocking my view before any of the authorities could come ask me any questions. As I peered up at him through blurry eyes, at a look of understanding in his eyes, I felt something broke inside of me and I accepted his hand when he offered it to me and tugged me into his arms.

"We’ll be taking a few minutes to ourselves, please." Roy said to them as he tugged me away, down the familiar hallway and into a large restroom. I stood before one of the wash hand basis and splashed water across my face, and then I exhaled slowly till the urge to cry ebb away.

My reflection was pale, and my blue eyes were a little dull. My eyes were a little sunken and I’ve also lost some weight in the past six months. Every day gets harder than the previous day, living without one’s mate would do all this to a person, apparently.

I still feel the loss of my mate every day, and till today, I still cry myself to sleep.

Things had gotten better, I was starting to eat and sleep better, but it was still so hard. I couldn’t feel him in my chest, the bond that tied us together night as well be an ordinary rope now because I never feel him through it anymore more, and the mark which he gave me at the side of my neck was just a decoration at this point.

I miss my mate everyday. I didn’t know if he was dead or still alive. It’s been six months but it feels like six years. Sometimes I find myself wishing I could just die, so that this whole pain could finally stop. But a selfish part of me only wanted to do that after I was certain that he was dead, so that while dying, I’d be certain that I was going to go be with him on the other side.

Roy didn’t say a thing throughout, he was already used to this at this point. He didn’t need to offer me words of comfort anymore, his presence alone was enough.

I didn’t understand why Roy chose to stick to my dude after Blaze was gone. He knew he wasn’t bonded to me and he also owed me no loyalty, but he insisted on staying by my side since I was Blaze’s mate, and that since he sees Blaze in me, he can’t walk away from me. He has been with me ever since, along with Kim.

Kim and I were brothers, and after he got rescued that night, he stuck with me ever since as well. He didn’t have a home to go to, his parents never liked him and he realized it was because he was never a part of their family. He chose to stick to me and pledge his loyalty to me of his own accord, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

I was very grateful for Roy and Kim’s presence in my life and I was certain that If it wasn’t for them being there for me and supporting me every step of the way, I’d have definitely given up a long time ago. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

I brought out a handkerchief and moped my face a bit, and then I put it away before turning around.

"I’m good now." I breathed out to Roy who stepped forward, concern in his eyes. Once upon a time I’d have been revolted thinking this was nothing but pity, but I knew he genuinely cared about me. He might not say it but he was also very worried about me.

I flashed him a smile which felt beyond strained.

"Yeah, I am."
