Chapter 139: I Told You to Scream Louder

Zain charged forward.

"Now," he said with a grin.

"Let’s use my strongest ability."

He quickly activated Angelic Demon Shift.

Dark energy exploded from his back.

Six massive wings burst out, layered in black and radiant silver light.

His curved horns grew longer, layered with glowing red streaks.

The red cracks across his skin turned black with gold veins.

His black tail extended, transforming into a sleek, gold-tipped spear blazing with fire

Zain’s eyes shone red and gold.

"Let’s end this."

Dreadgnarl let out a massive roar, slamming its fists together.

It activated Bone Echo Roar.

The shockwave blasted outward again. The sound tore through the air.

Zain didn’t flinch.

He beat his wings once and vanished.

He reappeared behind the beast.

"Too slow."

He slammed his fist into Dreadgnarl’s spine.

The beast stumbled forward. Bone plates cracked.

Dreadgnarl spun fast and struck with a heavy elbow.

Zain caught it mid-air, gritting his teeth, wings glowing brighter.

The beast followed with a charged stomp and activated the Sonic Pulse Core.

The ground erupted.

Tremors cracked the terrain, throwing dust and broken stone upward.

Zain flew up in time.

Dreadgnarl lifted both fists and used Iron Knuckle Smash.

The beast leapt and tried to crush Zain midair with both hands.

Zain spun left, dodging by inches.

He then slammed his tail into the side of Dreadgnarl’s head.

Flames burst on impact.

The beast roared, off balance. Blood dripped from its jaw.

Zain zipped forward with all six wings flaring.

"Try this!"

He dove down and punched into the beast’s chest.

He sent it crashing through a ruined wall.

Before it could move, Zain landed with both feet on its back.

"You’re tough," he said.

Dreadgnarl roared and threw Zain off.

Its plates began shifting again.

Bone Reforge was activated.

Broken armor rebuilt. Cracks sealed. It stood, towering again.

"You’re just a walking wall, aren’t you?" Zain muttered, brushing off debris.

The beast’s body tensed. It let out a low growl.

It was trying to use Bone Echo Roar at full power.

Zain’s ears rang.

The force made the buildings around them shudder.

But he flew straight through the wave.

His tail glowed brighter.

He shot forward, wings folding close. A flash of light trailed behind him.

Zain twisted in midair—horns glowing, fists ready.

He slammed both fists into Dreadgnarl’s face.

Then, mid-spin, his tail speared into the beast’s ribs.

The beast screamed.

Zain didn’t stop.

He flared his wings again and launched a barrage of strikes.

Every blow landed with speed and power.

"You’re done," Zain growled.

Dreadgnarl staggered back, body smoking.

It lifted one hand for a last punch.

Zain stepped in close and whispered, "Wrong move."

He ducked, grabbed the beast’s arm, twisted—and with a single, brutal motion—

SNAP.

The arm broke.

Zain kicked off its chest and flew into the air.

His wings spread wide.

"Burn." novelbuddy.cσ๓

He dove.

His tail speared straight through Dreadgnarl’s chest.

The beast let out a final roar, coughing blood.

Then it collapsed, body shaking once—then still.

Zain landed beside it, wings fading slowly. His horns retreated.

The black-gold tail flickered, then vanished.

He stood over the beast’s corpse, breathing steadily.

"Not bad," he muttered. "But not enough."

He knelt beside the chest, placing one hand on the still-warm armor plates.

"Thought you’d last longer."

The silence around him was heavy.

Zain stood again and rolled his shoulders.

"But still... mission complete."

He looked at the broken jaw of the beast, then stepped over to its head.

With both hands, he grabbed under the cracked edge of the skull.

"Guess I need proof."

He dug in his heels.

With one sharp pull—crack—he ripped the beast’s head clean off.

Blood and bone tore apart with a wet snap.

He held it up by the horned crown, letting it dangle.

"Ugh. Heavy."

He stared at the face for a moment.

"Not even a real challenge. Just loud."

He slung the head over his shoulder and turned toward the road.

"Let’s head back. Get the points."

As he walked, he muttered to himself.

"Still need more. More kills, more abilities. This isn’t even halfway."

He looked up at the dull sky.

"High-tier’s waiting."

Then smirked.

"I’ll get there."

His grip on the beast’s head tightened.

"One monster at a time."

---

Zain walked fast through the ruined road.

The beast head dragged behind him, leaving a trail of dried blood.

He reached the Hero Association branch in BB-1 a few hours later.

The same mission robot stood at the counter.

Zain dropped the beast’s head on the desk with a loud thud.

"There," he said flatly. "Dreadgnarl. Dead."

The robot’s eyes blinked and scanned the head. A soft beep followed.

"Target confirmed. A-Rank beast: Dreadgnarl."

Zain leaned on the counter, arms crossed.

"Yeah, I know. Give me my reward."

He paused, then added, "And some bonus. I soloed that thing."

The robot processed the request.

"Verifying combat data... confirmed. No team assistance detected."

Zain smirked. "Told you."

A soft chime rang out as a screen popped up.

"Mission complete. Uploading your credits."

"20,000 credits plus a solo bonus of 5,000 credits."

Zain looked down at his wristband as the numbers updated.

He smiled. "Good. I got it."

He picked the head back up and tossed it into the disposal chute beside the robot.

"Keep the skull. I don’t want it."

"Accepted," the robot said. "Trophy logged."

Zain brushed his hands off and looked down at the blood still on his sleeve.

"Tch. Messy thing."

The robot’s eyes flickered. "Would you like assistance with cleaning?"

Zain shook his head. "Nah. I’m not here to look pretty."

He turned to leave, but paused for a second.

"You better mark that one as solo-kill," he added.

"No one touched that beast but me."

The robot beeped once. "It’s already confirmed. Solo status verified.

"Good." Zain smiled. "That’s how it should be."

He headed toward the exit, ready to find his next kill.

But just as he reached the door, his eyes caught something.

Across the hall, near one of the side terminals, Blazren stood.

He was talking to some people. A few files in his hand. His back was turned.

Zain narrowed his eyes.

"Blazren, huh?"

He smirked.

"Let’s see what he’s up to."
