Chapter 140: Good Talk, Grandpa

Zain walked up to Blazren, hands in his pockets, voice casual.

"Old man, what are you doing?"

Blazren looked up and saw him.

His expression stayed calm, but his eyes narrowed just a bit.

"The Heavenly Demon," he said.

"Didn’t expect you back so soon."

Zain tilted his head.

"Just finished the mission."

"Now I see you standing here, staring at that screen like you’re planning something."

Blazren gave a short nod.

"Nothing big. I’m just putting together some hero teams."

"We’re preparing for a raid."

Zain raised an eyebrow. "A raid?"

Blazren nodded.

"Yeah. The woman that we caught, Meyra, we got information from her."

"Turns out she wasn’t working alone."

"There are other bases. Other slave soldiers. A whole network."

Zain’s smirk faded slightly. "Hmm."

Blazren looked tired as he scrolled through files.

"But what I didn’t expect... was the name behind it all."

Zain narrowed his eyes. "And that is?"

Blazren looked him straight in the eye.

"Vantess."

Zain blinked. "Vantess?"

Blazren nodded.

"That’s the name we got from Meyra’s mind."

"The one behind all these accidents is from the Vantess family."

Zain kept his expression still. "Never heard of them."

Blazren looked away for a moment.

"Most people haven’t. It’s an old family."

"Used to live in BB-1. Rich. Quiet. Always kept to themselves."

"What happened to them?" Zain asked.

"One night, their whole estate burned down," Blazren said.

"No one survived. Or so we thought."

Zain crossed his arms. "You thought they were all dead?"

Blazren nodded slowly.

"Yeah. That was years ago. No survivors." freewēbnoveℓ.com

"No bodies found either, though. Just fire, smoke, and silence after that."

Zain stared at the floor for a moment, then looked back at him.

"So now someone from that family is alive?"

"Seems like it," Blazren said.

Zain tilted his head. "And you don’t know who?"

Blazren looked at the screen, then back at Zain.

"We didn’t at first. But then we went deeper into Meyra’s mind."

Zain stayed quiet, waiting.

"We pulled a name," Blazren continued. "Valcair. Valcair Vantess."

Zain blinked. "Valcair?"

Blazren nodded. "Yeah. He’s the one giving orders. He’s the one controlling the slaves."

Zain’s voice dropped. "So he survived."

"More than survived," Blazren said. "He rebuilt."

Zain frowned. "I thought the fire destroyed all of them."

"So did we," Blazren muttered.

"But I guess he made it out. Maybe he was hiding. Planning."

Zain’s eyes narrowed.

"You know anything about him? What kind of person he is?"

Blazren shook his head.

"Only bits. He wasn’t the head of the family."

"Just the younger brother, I think. But Meyra said he’s different. Twisted."

"How so?" Zain asked.

"He doesn’t fight. He controls. Uses marks. Brands. Seals."

"He breaks people without touching them."

Zain went quiet.

Blazren continued, "Meyra said when he speaks, it’s like your body listens even when your mind says no."

Zain clenched his jaw.

Blazren sighed.

"We didn’t believe it at first."

"But the way those slave soldiers acted... yeah. Something’s wrong."

"Mind control?" Zain asked.

"Worse," Blazren said.

"It’s like... full obedience. Fear mixed with loyalty."

"Like they love him, even while hurting."

Zain looked at the floor for a second, then said, "So what’s your plan?"

"We raid his bases," Blazren said. "Cut the roots before they spread."

Zain nodded once. "And if you find him?"

Blazren’s eyes were sharp. "We end it. No trial. No mercy."

Zain smirked. "Cold."

Blazren looked tired. "We can’t afford to let him escape."

Zain gave a short nod. "Then I’ll let you handle it."

Blazren raised an eyebrow. "So you’re not joining us?"

Zain smiled a little. "I just finished my mission. I’m not that interested in group raids right now."

Blazren let out a breath. "Figured you’d say that."

Zain shrugged. "I work better alone."

Blazren nodded. "Alright. I won’t push you."

There was a pause between them.

Then Blazren turned back to the screen.

"I still need to finish assigning teams. A lot of young heroes are volunteering."

"Good luck," Zain said as he stepped back.

Blazren glanced at him.

"Just be careful out there. If Valcair really is alive, he won’t go down easy."

Zain gave a small grin. "He’ll wish he stayed dead."

Blazren didn’t answer.

He returned to dragging names into groups, calling over another hero to check map data.

Zain watched Blazren for a moment, then turned away.

As he walked down the hall, he couldn’t stop the smirk forming on his face.

In his mind, he was laughing.

Blazren really thinks Valcair is still out there...

He chuckled under his breath.

Too bad. That guy’s already dead.

Zain’s steps were slow now, relaxed.

I killed him myself.

He turned the corner, hands in his pockets.

And now the real last Vantess isn’t Valcair...

He smiled wider.

It’s Velra. And she’s mine.

He paused in front of the exit door, staring at the reflection in the glass.

Velra. His perfect weapon. Once a Vantess. Now fully under his control.

And then it hit him.

"This raid..."

He grinned again.

"It could be perfect."

Blazren and his little hero squad wanted to storm slave bases.

Zain had no interest in helping them.

But...

This could be the best place for Velra to show off.

Let the world see what she’s done with the slaves she took from Valcair.

He rubbed his chin.

"Let’s see how good she is at training."

If the slaves she broke were ready, this raid would be their stage.

A real battlefield. Heroes watching. Enemies resisting.

Perfect chance for her new army to perform.

And Zain wouldn’t have to lift a finger.

He laughed softly to himself again.

Blazren thought he was preparing for war. Thought he was striking first.

But all he was doing...

Was giving Zain a stage.

A show.

And Velra?

She’d be the star.

He stepped outside into the street, grinning.

Zain looked up, eyes sharp.

"Alright, Velra," he muttered. "Time to shine."

He took a few steps forward, the wind brushing past his coat.

"Show me what you’ve done."
