Hero Hack: Reversing Heroes and Raising Harem-Chapter 146: DIY Superpowers
Chapter 146: DIY Superpowers
Zain soon spotted Blazren again, arms crossed as usual, his expression stiff.
Zain stepped up beside him. freēnovelkiss.com
"How’d it go, old man?"
Blazren didn’t even glance at him. "Not that good."
Zain raised an eyebrow. "What happened? Explain."
Blazren finally turned, his eyes tired.
"Some of the raid teams made it into a few slave bases."
Zain leaned against the wall. "And?"
"Some of them were empty," Blazren said.
"Just left behind gear, broken chains, old tools."
"Looked like they were abandoned days ago."
Zain tilted his head. "Sounds simple."
Blazren’s jaw tightened. "That was the easy part."
Zain’s smile faded slightly. "Go on."
"Some of the other bases were different," Blazren said, voice low.
"They weren’t empty. They were traps. Filled with strong ones. Crazy ones."
Zain crossed his arms. "How bad?"
Blazren looked down at the tablet in his hand.
"Three heroes dead. Two more in critical condition. One team barely escaped."
Zain was quiet for a second.
Then he sighed.
"Too bad."
Blazren didn’t reply right away.
Zain looked at him again. "You didn’t expect resistance?"
"I expected some," Blazren said.
"But not like this. These ones... they fought like they didn’t care if they died."
"Like they were being controlled."
Zain narrowed his eyes. "Still branded?"
Blazren nodded. "Yeah. Their eyes were blank. Movements too clean. Like machines."
Zain muttered, "Valcair’s leftovers..."
Blazren looked at him. "What did you say?"
"Nothing." Zain smirked. "Just thinking."
Blazren eyed him for a moment, then looked back at the board.
"We’ll need to adjust plans. Hit the remaining bases harder, smarter."
Zain shrugged. "Or just burn them all down."
Blazren didn’t smile. "You always go straight to destruction."
Zain smirked. "That’s why it works."
Blazren let out a slow breath. "We lost good people today."
Zain’s face stayed calm. "Then don’t waste their deaths."
Blazren nodded once. "I don’t plan to."
Zain pushed off the wall and stretched a little. "Let me know if you find something else."
Blazren raised an eyebrow. "You want to help?"
Zain shook his head. "Nope. Just wanted to know the situation."
He turned to walk away. "Bye, old man."
Blazren frowned slightly, but didn’t say anything.
He just turned back to the board and continued reviewing team reports.
Zain walked out of the Hero Association building, hands in his pockets.
"Still busy," he muttered. "And still messy."
He made his way down the street, passing a few junior heroes on patrol.
They nodded as he passed, but he didn’t respond.
Within minutes, Zain reached his apartment complex.
He walked up the stairs calmly, his mind still focused on the earlier conversation with Blazren.
"Still a mess out there," he muttered. "And it’s only getting worse."
He reached his door and opened it.
But as soon as he stepped inside—he stopped.
No sound.
No voice.
No smell of cooking.
No teasing comment from Savra.
No cheerful "Welcome back!" from Zelia.
The apartment was completely quiet.
Zain’s eyes narrowed. He stepped further in and looked around.
"...Hello?" he called out.
No answer.
He looked at the couch. Empty.
Kitchen. Empty.
Then his eyes landed on something on the table.
A folded piece of paper.
He slowly walked over and picked it up.
His name was written on it.
He opened it, eyes scanning the page quickly.
His expression shifted.
"...What?"
The handwriting was Zelia’s.
Zain stared at the letter in silence.
His fingers curled slightly at the edge of the page.
She didn’t write where she was going.
No details.
No location.
No date.
Just... gone.
He sat down slowly on the couch, still holding the letter.
"Zelia..."
He frowned.
He couldn’t help it. He was worried.
Even with her words, even with her promise.
She was still his big sister.
Still someone he needed to protect.
But... he also knew her.
She wouldn’t have left unless she truly meant it.
Zain leaned back and let out a breath.
"Savra... I hope you don’t bring her somewhere stupid."
His eyes narrowed.
"If anything happens to her..."
He didn’t finish the sentence.
Then he looked at his wristband.
Fortunately... he had already hacked her.
Gave her Keen Senses, Pure Strength, and Tough Body.
Enough to handle herself—for now.
Still, that wasn’t enough to ease his mind.
He closed his eyes for a moment.
"Just don’t let her die."
He folded the letter and placed it in his pocket.
He stood up.
"I’ll let her go for now," he muttered.
"But if anything feels wrong..."
"I’m coming."
---
Zain sat on the sofa, eyes half-closed, letter from Zelia still in his pocket.
The room was quiet.
He rested his arms across the backrest and stared at the ceiling for a moment.
"System," he said. "Show me the cost of high-tier abilities again."
The screen lit up in front of him, displaying the chart.
[High-Tier Ability – Cost: 10,000,000 Hack Points]
Zain stared at the number.
"Ten million... That’s insane."
He leaned forward, elbows on his knees.
"Mid-tier only costs ten thousand. That’s a huge gap. Way too big."
The system stayed quiet, as always.
Zain sighed. "Of course. You never answer anyway."
He pulled up his balance next.
[Current Hack Points: 1,138,180]
"Even with a million points, I’m still far," he muttered.
"Still need nearly nine million more."
He leaned back again and stared at the screen, silent.
Then a thought hit him.
He sat up straighter.
"What if... I can’t get high-tier yet, but..."
He smirked.
"What if I can fuse my mid-tier abilities?"
His mind started racing.
"I’ve got so many already."
"Angel Shift. Demon Shift. Angelic Demon Shift. Pure Strength. Keen Senses. Tough Body."
He grinned wider now.
"If I combine them... I could create something close to high-tier without paying the full cost."
He stood up, pacing the room.
"The system doesn’t stop me from fusing things."
"It lets me modify, rewrite, upgrade..."
He looked at his hand, fingers twitching with excitement.
"Maybe I don’t need to buy high-tier abilities."
He looked back at the system screen.
"Maybe I can build my own."
The thought made his blood rush.
He chuckled.
"That’s it."
He sat back down, eyes locked on the screen.
"Time to test something new."
