His Obsession Began After Losing Her-Chapter 72: Karlene Dislikes Noran
Chapter 72 - Karlene Dislikes Noran
Karlene glared at the man standing before her, her eyes blazing with fury.
She had to admit he was strikingly handsome.
His light blue eyes, so cold and piercing, held a captivating charm that made it hard for people to look away.
His features were almost ethereal, with a finely sculpted face that seemed too perfect for the real world.
He stood a head taller than her, with a lean but well-built physique that spoke of grace and hidden strength.
Despite his good looks, something about him rubbed her the wrong way.
Maybe it was the way he looked at her, with a cold, dismissive gaze, as if she were nothing more than an annoyance.
"If you know it's this late, why are you making so much noise?" Noran's voice was blunt, his tone devoid of any warmth.
Karlene's temper flared. "You intrude into my sister's home and dare find fault with me? What have you done to Shuri? Let me in—"
As she tried to push her way inside, Noran blocked her entrance with his body, standing firm and unmoving.
He folded his arms across his chest, his expression growing more impatient by the second. "Rin and I live together. I'm sure you already know I'm her fiancé."
"I don't approve of you!" Karlene pointed an accusatory finger at him, her voice shaking with rage.
"We don't need your approval," Noran retorted calmly.
Her frustration boiling over, Karlene clenched her fist.
So, he wouldn't let her see her sister?
Fine!
She would make him move out of her way!
Without another word, Karlene swung at him, aiming a punch at his face.
Noran dodged effortlessly, his movements swift and precise.
She swung again, and again he evaded her with infuriating ease.
Karlene was skilled, her training evident in every move she made.
But Noran was better and faster, his agility and reflexes far superior.
Karlene couldn't believe it—she had never lost a physical fight before.
Who the hell is this guy?
Noran continued to dodge her attacks, his calm demeanor never wavering.
His eyes never left hers, a hint of amusement playing in their icy depths.
Karlene's breath came in short, angry bursts as she realized she couldn't even touch him.
"Still as hot-tempered as ever," Noran commented with a slight smirk.
"What did you say?" Karlene said, gritting her teeth.
"I said you never changed."
Initially, Noran thought Karlene would behave differently in this life after becoming a reputable lawyer.
But it appeared to him that she would still turn irrational when it came to her precious sister, whom she held in high regard and cherished dearly.
If Noran didn't know Karlene better, he might've thought she had a split personality—the poised, eloquent woman on TV looked nothing like the fiery one standing in front of him. It was almost like the one on screen was an imposter.
"This is our first time meeting. Don't act like you know me," Karlene retorted. "I want to see my sister. Let me in, or else I'll make you pay."
Noran raised an eyebrow, his expression showing just how ridiculous he found her threat.
"You can't even touch me, so how are you going to do that?"
Karlene smirked, a hint of arrogance in her eyes. "Once my sister learns that you bully me, she won't forgive you."
"You'll be disappointed," Noran commented confidently.
Karlene couldn't believe her ears.
How could this man be so sure that Shuri would side with him over her own sister whom she had grown up with and protected her whole life?
Karlene thought Noran must be bluffing, which was why he was keeping her out of the house.
If only she could get in, she was sure she could make Shuri kick this infuriating man out.
"Ran, why aren't you in bed with me?"
Suddenly, a familiar gentle voice came from behind Noran.
Shuri appeared, rubbing her tired eyes.
When she saw Karlene by the door, her eyes lit up in surprise. "Lene?"
"Sister!" Karlene shouted, pushing past Noran to embrace Shuri.
"W-Why are you here?" Shuri asked, startled by Karlene's sudden presence.
She patted her on the back, welcoming her.
Karlene pulled back slightly, her eyes filled with concern. "I was worried about you. When I heard you were engaged to this... man, I had to come and see for myself."
Shuri smiled softly. "I'm fine, Lene. Ran takes good care of me."
Noran, standing behind them, folded his arms and watched the scene unfold with a bemused expression as if saying, "See, I told you so."
Karlene shot him a glare before turning back to her sister. "Are you sure, sis? Did he threaten you to be with him? You can let me know, I'm a lawyer, and I can definitely help you out."
Shuri chuckled softly at Karlene's assumption.
Did she really think Noran had blackmailed her into this relationship?
"No, Lene. Ran didn't force me to be with him. I want to marry him," Shuri said in a clear voice, free of any deceit.
Karlene widened her eyes in disbelief. "You do? But why? What's so good about this despicable man besides his handsome face?"
She pointed accusatorily at Noran, who stood calmly behind her.
Shuri glanced at Noran, who was smiling warmly at her, and blushed slightly. "Well, his good looks are one of the reasons..."
Karlene froze, speechless.
It was the first time she had ever seen her sister act like this.
Shuri, who had always shown little interest in the opposite sex, was blushing as she looked at Noran.
This felt surreal.
No, she couldn't let this despicable man steal her sister away from her like that!
Karlene gripped Shuri's shoulders, her voice urgent. "You can't just fall for him and marry him because he's good-looking. He obviously has a bad character. You should have seen how he glared at me just now. He was so rude!"
Shuri's smile remained gentle. "I'm sure there must be some misunderstanding, Lene. You'll come to like Ran once you get to know him better."
Even as she said this, Shuri pressed her lips together, doubt creeping into her voice.
She remembered how Karlene had never liked Noran, despite knowing him for more than a decade in their past life.
It seemed she liked him even less now.
Shuri looked at Karlene, who was still glaring at Noran, and wondered if the two of them were just fated to have bad blood.
"No way! I will never accept him! I'd rather you choose Jin..."
"Choose who?"
The temperature around them seemed to drop several degrees as Noran's voice cut through the air, cold and sharp.
Karlene felt a chill run down her spine at Noran's icy stare, realizing she had definitely overstepped a boundary.
But she wouldn't back down.
She sneered, looking at Noran. "I may not approve of Jin either, but he's surely better than you. At least Jin took care of my sister way longer than you did."
Noran's expression darkened, his eyes narrowing.
The tension in the room was palpable.
Shuri, sensing the brewing storm, quickly tugged at Karlene's arm, trying to diffuse the situation. "Lene, Jin and I are just friends. Why are you suddenly bringing him up?"
"I'm just stating the facts," Karlene scoffed as she continued looking at Noran, who was still glaring coldly at her.
"Now that I think about it, Jin is really a better option. Although he couldn't compete with you in terms of looks, at least he's more agreeable, kinder, has better manners, gets along well with us, and is extremely devoted to my sister..."
"Since he's so good, you should marry him then," Noran cut in, his voice icy, not hiding his displeasure.
Karlene gritted her teeth and turned to Shuri. "Will you look at him, sis? Look how scary and rude he is!"
"That's because you kept provoking him, Lene," Shuri thought with a sigh but chose to not say it out loud.
She really wanted them to stop arguing.
"Lene, I'm tired. I have work tomorrow. Can we talk about this some other time?"
Karlene, finally realizing she had disturbed Shuri's rest, decided to stop provoking Noran. "I didn't mean to disturb your sleep, sis. Come on, let's get you to bed."
She held Shuri's hand, intending to lead her to the bedroom when Noran's voice stopped her.
"What are you doing?"
Karlene turned to him, looking annoyed. "We're going to rest. There's no room for you here. Go back to where you came from."
Ignoring her words, Noran walked over and, with surprising gentleness, scooped Shuri into his arms in a graceful princess carry.
His movements were fluid as if he had done this a thousand times before.
Shuri let out a small gasp of surprise, her arms instinctively wrapping around his neck for support.
"Ran?" she whispered, her cheeks tinged with a light blush.
Karlene exclaimed in disbelief, "What do you think you're doing? Put my sister down, you bastard!"
"Didn't you ask me to go back to where I came from?" Noran replied coolly.
He glanced down at Happy, who stood by his side, looking up at him like he was waiting for permission. "You can come too."
Without waiting for another word from Karlene, Noran strode out of the house with Shuri in his arms and Happy trotting alongside.
His long, confident strides showed he was used to command and control, and he ignored Karlene's protests.
He headed straight to his apartment next door, shutting the door behind him and leaving Karlene fuming on the other side.
"Lene will be so mad..." Shuri murmured, allowing herself to relax in Noran's arms as he carried her to his room.
She was too tired to resolve this conflict between Noran and Karlene.
Noran smiled, placing her gently on his bed. "Don't worry, I can handle her."
"Are you sure? What are you planning to do, Ran?" Shuri asked, curiosity piqued even as fatigue pulled at her.
Before Noran could answer, the doorbell began to ring incessantly.
It must be Karlene's doing.
"I'll go handle her now. Go back to sleep," he whispered, kissing her gently on the forehead.
Shuri trusted his word.
Despite their differences, she knew Noran wouldn't do anything to harm Karlene.
With that reassurance, she nodded quietly, her eyelids heavy with exhaustion.
Seeing that Shuri was comfortably settled in his bed, Noran quietly left the bedroom and made his way to the entrance.
Instead of opening the door, he accessed the high-tech control panel beside it.
With a few swift taps, Noran disabled the doorbell, ensuring it would no longer ring.
The persistent ringing finally stopped, and a peaceful silence enveloped the apartment.
Satisfied, Noran returned to the bedroom, where he could finally get a good night's rest with his beloved Rin.
