I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 169: The smile that never left
Chapter 169: The smile that never left
"I believed you. They would not even see it coming." Ravi added, indulging him.
Asher nodded and smiled before the smile disappeared and he turned to face Ravi a little nervous.
"What is it?" Ravi said, looking at him.
"Are you the one that killed them?"
The voice that asked with a bit of a soft and cautious Ravi looked at him and he couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
His hands were soaked with blood. The people he had killed yesterday were not even enough to be a fraction of the amount of lives that Ravi had directly or indirectly taken in his life.
This was something he kept in his heart, something he would never, never let anyone know. Especially Asher and Arlen.
Seeing that he had responded, Asher looked down, "I am sorry. I should not have asked"
"You did not do anything wrong. Yesterday, it was a friend of mine. I called in a favor." He did not like lies and in particular, never cared enough to lie, but the way the words left his mouth so effortlessly struck a nerve in his stomach.
Technically, it was his Sentinel self so it was not really him, it was not Asher’s guardian or Arlen’s boyfriend who committed the murders the news was talking about. When he thought about it like this, it made him relax a bit and he nodded.
Asher suddenly hugged him around the waist, making his eyes widen for a second, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly.
"Tell your friend thank you for me."
He should probably correct that, saying something like murder is not good or killing someone has consequences but he did not. He stroked the black and white hair, "I will." He said finally before pulling away, "How about we watch something else? It is a good day.
There was a knock on the gate this time and two people soon entered the living room.
"I entered through the front door." Sage said with a huge smile as he sauntered into the room and sat down on the sofa, "Good morning, Ravi."
"Good morning to you too."
"Good morning," Lana said, she was scrolling through something on her phone, her voice listless.
"Lana, watch..."
"Aah!" Her foot knocked against the wooden part of the sofa and she let out a loud cry before she stopped pressing her phone.
"Does it hurt?" Ravi asked.
Lana shook her head.
"It should." Ravi added, "This is the third this week, I have told you to watch out for that sofa. Children these days, always on their phones." Ravi said while walking away.
"I am 23 years old. I am not a child and you are 25, just 2 years older than me." Lana muttered, causing the two boys to burst out laughing.
Her cold green eyes instantly moved to the two of them and they shut up.
"I am older than I look."
Her eyes gleamed, "Really, can I have your blood sample?" fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"No." Malik wanted to enter his mind, Lana either wanted his Farm or his blood sample. To think one day, he would agree that Sage was the most normal out of the three of them.
"Lana." Sage’s voice sounded, "Since Ash’s evil organization had been killed and he does not need a bodyguard anymore. Perhaps, it is time for his bodyguard Evaluation?"
The smile on Asher’s face instantly disappeared, "Sage!"
Sage’s only response was clear laughter without any slight hint of guilt in them.
Lana nodded seriously, her hand on her chin as she scratched it, "True. We had a deal. Little Ash would grade me on Threat Assessment and Awareness, Protection Techniques, Communication, and Coordination. Surveillance and Crisis Management. Don’t feel the need to give a good grade. I have reviewed it already and it was terrible, I could have done so much better. I will study more."
Ignoring Asher’s desperate plea for help, Ravi headed straight into the kitchen. Sage left the two of them and followed Ravi.
Ravi, who had stepped into the garden with his heart so he could prepare breakfast, turned to look at the red-haired youth who was grinning at him.
"Jack and Jill went up the tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G."
He saw them. Technically they were in front of the house so it made a lot of sense that Sage would see them.
"That is not how that verse goes."
"So? Are you a boyfriends now? Am I the first to know?"
Ravi’s cheeks reddened, feeling embarrassed to have this discussion, "Yes. And you should not watch when people are, you know...having intimate relations."
Sage’s eyes widened, "Intimate relations? Were you born in the 50’s? All you did was kiss, I was so bored, I had to go to bed...Hey, I did not watch, not for long."
Ravi reduced the glare in his eyes.
"Congrats though. I know you like him."
"Thank you!"
"So...you are not going to throw Asher away now you have your boyfriends, right? A lot of people do it, I am not worried, I am just a little curious."
"Why would I do that? It is sweet that you are worried about Asher."
"I am not." The teenager cut in so quickly that Ravi had to hide his laughter.
"Okay. Okay. You are not worried about Asher. But I would never do that, Sage. I am not that kind of person. I love Ash. He is my ward."
"That is what Malik said."
Ravi’s lips twitched, "So, how is Malik doing? Any word?"
"No. But he is very strong so..."
Ravi looked at him, even though he was feigning unconcern, his eyes were filled with worry, he reached out and placed his hand on Sage’s shoulder "He is going to be fine. Besides if he is in trouble. He would contact me. I will be next to him immediately and I will help. Meanwhile, the two of you are welcome here as long as you want. Just never disturb me when I am painting, unless it is a life and death situation."
Sage looked at him for the longest time, "Okay. Thanks, I will pay you back."
"You don’t have to."
"He looked at him as if he had two heads, "Of course, I have to pay you back. It is not good to owe anyone."
Ravi’s lips twitched, "Since you are so eager to pay me back, you can harvest the carrot and the celery." He showed the way to do it before he disappeared and returned in the next second with a chicken.
The recipe is best with a wild-caught chicken. Besides he was not feeding four people and hoping for leftovers so the bigger, the better. He had finished cleaning and burying the feathers and blood in the Maniro Forest before heading back with the naked Chicken.
"Traitor," Asher whispered as he stepped into the kitchen and Ravi laughed.
’A promise is a promise. What grade did you give her?"
"C." He whispered.
"That is so generous."
Lana was walking like a zombie, "I have never gotten a C in my life. My lowest score is a B+."
"Interesting. How about the two of you go help Sage outside and...stay there."
Asher looked around and at the chicken, "You don’t need help."
"No, I am good."
Sending them away, the house was instantly quiet and silent. Finally.
His phone rang and he dropped the chicken on the table to pick it up, a smile appearing on his face as he saw a picture of the office mug filled with a creamy liquid.
"Just had my morning coffee, how is your day going?" His stomach somersaults in the nicest way possible.
He took a picture of the chicken and sent it, "About to make breakfast."
"Wow. That chicken is so big, it almost looks like a turkey. What are you making?"
"The weather is cold. I was thinking of buns and hot chicken pepper soup."
There was a crying emoji and then one of the laborers fainting and being carried away by the sea.
Ravi laughed.
"It is a simple meal, really. You are not missing a lot."
"None of your meals are simple. They are the best, ever."
"Come now, I am sure the buns from the canteen are not that bad." He said, sitting down and leaning against the cupboard.
He would not stop grinning. Would not.
"The Canteen, love? Have you seen a soul in that hall before?"
Ravi laughed again and his eyes creased.
He called him love again, actually, he texted but...the red dusting spread on his face.
"You can revive it. I believe in you."
There was a laughing face and then The dog in the sticker was crying so miserably. It kinda looked a bit like him and he chuckled.
"I can stop by and get you some.’" He added. Just like in reality, this expression with Arlen always made him cave.
"Thanks but no. I would be at the Van all day and then have a meeting with the Feds. They think that this is the job of a villain hunter they are chasing. No need for you to get in trouble. I will see you in the evening. I can’t wait."
"En." His heart was thumping in his chest. He could not wait as well.
