I Bacame the Mother of His Child-Chapter 49 - 48: Lu Xiangxiang Picks a Fight
Chapter 49: Chapter 48: Lu Xiangxiang Picks a Fight
"Military brats are always a little mischievous," said Song Xiaoying, Deputy Company Commander Wang’s wife, who clearly understood the situation. Having a daughter as naughty as a boy, wild as a little monkey, she couldn’t control her and naturally sensed Xu Xiuxiu’s tone of helplessness. "Don’t worry about letting your child play with the other kids! It’s okay, they’re all good kids and won’t bully a newcomer." Ma Xiaoying suggested, pointing toward a group of children of the same age as Song Chengguang playing on a small lawn.
"Sure!" Xu Xiuxiu looked at the children playing with mud and then nodded, signaling Cheng Guang to join the kids.
Cheng Guang furrowed his little eyebrows and pouted, pointing at his clothes. He probably wanted to say that they would get dirty, but he didn’t know how to express it, and could only gesture at his clothes to Xu Xiuxiu with reluctance flashing across his face. Being a child who liked cleanliness, he clearly showed his distaste for the group of kids.
"It’s okay, we can change if the clothes get dirty," Xu Xiuxiu soothed the little one by patting his head. She couldn’t let him be anti-social! Clothes can be washed, but once habits are formed, they’re hard to change. She didn’t want him to be too individualistic in the future.
Hearing this, Cheng Guang looked at Xu Xiuxiu and hesitated for a while before turning around and walking with tiny steps towards the circle of children. His cute, wobbly walk surprised several military wives present.
"Major Song’s kid is so well-behaved. How do you manage that?" interjected Feng Yuzhen. She looked at Cheng Guang’s retreating figure and then turned her gaze to one of the children playing nearby, her son, who was already covered in dirt, which made her feel a sudden pang of frustration. They were all similarly aged kids, but the difference was too great.
"You haven’t seen him when he’s being naughty—he can be a headache!" Xu Xiuxiu smiled and shook her head. Although she knew Cheng Guang was well-behaved, she didn’t take pride in it. People say you can tell a child’s future by the age of three, but this child wasn’t three yet! So she believed it was too early to label him.
"Good morning, ladies!" Suddenly, a tender voice interrupted the military wives’ chatter.
Xu Xiuxiu and the others looked towards the source of the voice and saw Lu Xiangxiang dressed in a green military uniform, with her hair in two braids, standing not far from them. When they looked at her, she promptly saluted.
"Oh, isn’t this the Cultural Troupe’s star, Miss Lu Xiangxiang? No need to be so formal, don’t salute us military wives like that!" The person who spoke was a military wife unfamiliar to Xu Xiuxiu. The malice and provocation were evident in her tone, and her face wore a smirk that made Xu Xiuxiu very uncomfortable. Xu Xiuxiu frowned slightly and glanced subtly at the woman. The woman seemed to notice her gaze and met it unabashedly.
Interesting!
"Good morning to all the beautiful sisters. Here’s the thing, tomorrow the first block of the new family apartments in the Military District will be completed, and the list of the first batch of military families has already been released. The Cultural Troupe has prepared a performance program to welcome the new batch of military families the day after tomorrow. Please make time to attend, and of course, any military wife with a talent who wishes to perform can sign up to join the program. We, the Cultural Troupe, will be very welcoming." As Xiangxiang spoke, she handed out several brochures and sign-up sheets to the women present.
The military wives present all smiled and reached out to take them, but Xu Xiuxiu looked at Xiangxiang and decided not to reach for the material handed over. Neither did Yan Molin, who kept her eyes downcast, continuing to knit without pausing.
The reticent attitude of Xu Xiuxiu and Yan Molin stood out awkwardly, eliciting confused looks from everyone present, creating a somewhat embarrassing atmosphere.
Facing everyone’s puzzled looks, "I have something to deal with and won’t be at the Military District in two days," Xu Xiuxiu spoke indifferently by way of explanation, but her eyes briefly flickered towards Lu Xiangxiang, and her graceful eyebrows knitted slightly.
This Lu Xiangxiang really embodies the type of a fly that doesn’t bite but annoys nonetheless!
"I’m sorry, I’ve been busy lately as well," Yan Moli replied coolly.
"The two sisters-in-law are really busy people, huh! But everyone understands when Major Song’s sister-in-law has things to do and isn’t at the Military District, after all, she has opened a big restaurant in the city and is busy making money! It’s natural to be busy, but what about you, Sister-in-law Xu? What do you have to be busy with? You seem to be just busy knitting sweaters every day, I think you should have time!" Lu Xiangxiang directly asked Yan Moli and didn’t forget to belittle Xu Xiuxiu in the process, seemingly trying to prove that Xu Xiuxiu managing a restaurant was somehow not respectable.
"Do I have to tell you what I’m busy with?" Yan Moli responded, unfazed and undisturbed.
Lu Xiangxiang glared at Yan Moli so hard her eyeballs were nearly bulging out. With a ’slap,’ Lu Xiangxiang snapped out a flyer and smacked it in front of Moli, "Please put down that never-ending sweater knitting. After all, it’s too early for sweaters now. Brother Xu wouldn’t fancy it either, I am afraid."
With this comment from Lu Xiangxiang, several military wives familiar with Yan Moli were taken aback, recalling that Moli did indeed knit sweaters all year round, never skipping even in the heat of summer. Yet, they never saw Company Commander Xu wear one once. However, this Lu Xiangxiang, who was calling Company Commander Xu ’Brother Xu,’ where did she get that information from? But seeing the attitudes of the two, they didn’t seem to be close at all!
The surrounding military wives were instantly confused, and those with overactive imaginations even conjured up a myriad of exaggerated and melodramatic scenarios. Xu Xiuxiu herself was curious but the battle quickly turned back to her.
"Song Family’s Sister-in-law, come on! Don’t just focus on earning money. You might as well learn from Sister-in-law Xu how to please a man. Although it’s not very effective, it’s still better than showing off and flaunting yourself outside every other day, don’t you think?" Yan Moli ignored Lu Xiangxiang’s provocation, which seemed to annoy her greatly. In an instant, the sharp sword was turned towards Xu Xiuxiu.
Xu Xiuxiu was not someone to be easily dictated by Lu Xiangxiang, although she couldn’t fathom why suddenly Lu Xiangxiang turned so sharply eloquent.
"My family’s affairs are none of Miss Lu Xiangxiang’s concern. Even if I lack the talent to charm men, even if I show off and run a restaurant outside, I, Xu Xiuxiu, stand upright and fear no slanted shadows, stronger than someone like you who meddles and gossips about others’ private matters. Also, Lu Xiangxiang, you’re a young lady and should be cautious with your words in the future. If you wish to stay comfortably in the army, then I hope to never hear you speak a word about my man again, otherwise, don’t blame me for tearing off your decency and leaving you too ashamed to see people. You had better take what I said to heart, understand?" Xu Xiuxiu spoke from beginning to end without raising her voice, but each word paled Lu Xiangxiang’s face all the more.
Xu Xiuxiu was openly warning Lu Xiangxiang, hopefully, she understood and took it to heart.
"Xu Xiuxiu, you dare to threaten me?" Lu Xiangxiang gnashed her teeth furiously.
Xu Xiuxiu raised an eyebrow nonchalantly, just as she was about to reply.
"Ah!" A scream echoed from afar, quickly interrupting the tension-filled crowd.
