Chapter 111: On space camp mascots.

After lunch, Mei Mei pulled Mingzhe and his soldiers into helping her with the tree planting. Their speed was much faster than that of the ten part time workers the government office had found her on short notice.

The soldiers were treating it as a game, they had formed pairs, challenging each other to see who would plant the most trees. The rate at which they were going, Mei Mei was sure that she would have the mission finished before seven days elapsed.

At 3p.m sharp, she decided that enough planting had been done. It was time to head home because Mingzhu would soon be back from school. The school was so flexible and parent friendly to the extent that the child would be dropped off wherever the parent was in the capital.

Mingzhu could either be dropped off at home or the camp, depending on Mei Mei’s choice.

She took the same sky float as Mingzhe back to the main building, planning to take her third bath of the day.

As they entered the building, she noticed a group of at least ten toddlers being brought in three teachers. They looked no older than four years old. All were cute but she had no idea what they were doing in her camp. Weren’t they a little too young to be climbing asteroid walls, swimming and dodging flying balls?

The three teachers spotted Mei Mei and they waved at her with smiles. She raised her hand, smiled back and waved.

"Its the Imperial commander." One of them shouted.

Mei Mei’s hand froze mid wave, she turned to her brother and glared at him. Mingzhe was a thunder thief!! When they were standing together, she was always in his shadow. If she did not love him so much, she would be avoiding him like a plague.

"I hate you." she said.

"I know you don’t mean it." He laughed, turned and escaped before any toddler decided that they wanted to stick to him with the sticky fingers.

"Wu Qing," Mei Mei called out to the camp counselor and the woman hurried over. "What are the babies doing here?"

"A daycare center made a reservation for a group tour at the request of the parents. You said no refunds so I figured you also meant no rejection of money." Wu Qing answered.

Mei Mei looked at the toddlers that were being herded like disobedient sheep. "Watch them to prevent accidents. If we are going to be entertaining toddlers often then we will probably need mascots."

Wu Qing’s face lit up with a smile. "Actually I was going to talk to you about that tomorrow. I have been coming up with some ideas. What do you think of a space robot named Guji or Orbit.

A space cat made Xing Mao, a moon spirit named Yue, a star named Xing Xing or Nova, Huojian Long a rocket dragon. Comet boy and comet girl. Last on the list is an alien...I could not decide on a name..."

"Whiskers." Mei Mei chimed in eagerly.

Wu Qing’s smile trembled, "An alien named Whiskers!" She used her right hand to touch her cheeks, drawing two lines on each side. "Whiskers! Like a cat’s whiskers."

Mei Mei nodded.

"Is it an alien cat?" Wu Qing asked. Her voice was loaded with skepticism that somehow failed to register with Mei Mei.

Mei Mei frowned, "No, why would it be a cat?"

"Because its called Whiskers and people would naturally associate whiskers with a cat." Wu Qing explained.

Jingzhe happened to be passing by when he heard Whiskers being mentioned. He decided to intervene and save Wu Qing. Naming things was the Jun family curse. Mei Mei would have her whiskers.

"Counselor Wu, I have seen a toddler running into the swamp. Your assistance is needed over there." He told her.

Wu Qing went off, still muttering Whiskers in confusion. No matter how many times she sounded it out, she just couldn’t picture an alien named Whiskers unless it was an alien cat.

Escorting Mei Mei back to the private lounge, Jingzhe told her, "Wu Qing actually showed me the designs she came up with for camp mascots. I took some pictures with my phone and saved them for you to look at. I think the star, Xing Xing is cute."

He showed the pictures as they slowly walked to the elevator. They nearly bumped into two boys that were chasing each other, carrying dodge balls. They startled Mei Mei and she twirled around. Jingzhe was quick, he put his hand around Mei Mei’s waist, and steadied her.

"Careful." he said, giving her waist a little squeeze.

She gasped and glared at him playfully. "Mo Jingzhe, you have become so brave."

He smiled innocently, "Mei Mei, I have no idea what you are talking about." He gave it another squeeze, with a cocky smile on his lips.

She pushed herself away from him and walked away quickly. He really had no shame, how could he squeeze her waist in public!!! What if the employees saw them? With scarlet red cheeks that were blossoming with a mix of embarrassment and shyness, she quickly entered her lounge and closed the door.

She leaned against the door, touched her cheeks, recalled how her waist had been squeezed. It made her giggle. She only stopped when the door to the single bathroom in the lounge was opened and Mingzhe stepped out; shirtless.

He was in sweat pants, bare feet, drying his hair with one of her hair towels. He reeked of her shampoo and soap, jasmine scented beauty products that she had bought from the system.

Seeing Jingzhe shirtless was exciting, seeing Mingzhe shirtless was annoying--offensive even. She smiled wickedly, got her phone and snapped a picture.

"I saw that." Mingzhe said.

"I am going to sell it to the peep star." She snickered.

Mingzhe removed the towel from his head and hissed at her. "JUN MEILIN!!!" he growled out her name.

She was back to her old ways, selling his pictures when she needed extra cash and sometimes just to annoy him. She had been a great business partner for the peep star when it came to sharing pictures of him on weibo. His twin sister was responsible for half of his fame.

Mei Mei tossed a small pillow at him. "If you don’t want me to sell it, you have to endorse my camp. You will make a great mascot with your handsome face. I think that you will make a good Whiskers the alien."

"You have my permission to sell the picture." he replied, tossing the pillow back at her.

"Tch!" She pouted, tossing the pillow back at him again.

They had developed a habit of doing this as children and it became a ritual of sorts. When they were talking they would throw balls, pillows, frisbees or anything that could be tossed back and fourth.

"So, we all went out to plant trees with the exception of your pretty boy. Isn’t this discrimination?" Mingzhe asked her. When he threw the pillow at her this time, it was with force and the pillow hit her in the face.

She did the same thing but her caught it. "My A Zhe’s hands are too soft for rough work. Don’t be jealous because you have crow’s hands." She defended with a proud smile.
