Chapter 112: Age and stability.

"You favor that kid way too much, you don’t even see how pretentious he is. I am not saying that its a bad thing but....." Mingzhe sat down and his feet found room on her table.

"Ever since you became a soldier your feet found a love for tables." Mei Mei stared at the feet with contempt as if they had offended her somehow.

He tapped his feet together, unbothered. "It is called a power position. It can disarm your enemies or intimidate them. Stop changing the subject, we are talking about your little boyfriend."

Mei Mei narrowed her eyes, "He is not ’little.’ He is just younger than me,"

"By five years." He held a hand out. "Five, Mei Mei. That is practically a generation."

She rolled her eyes and scoffed. "Oh please. You make it sound as if I could be old enough to be his mother or something, He is not a teenager. He is twenty four, mature, responsible and he wants a commitment. If I told him to go down to civil affairs office with me on the very day my divorce is stamped he would do it happily. He is not like you--you are allergic to commitment."

Mingzhe chuckled. "Don’t get all defensive, I am just poking holes and looking underneath the hood which is my job as your older brother. I did not do a great job preventing the disaster that is Mo Liang. If this kid actually succeeds in marrying you, I have to make sure that he is solid like land.

You are not just any other woman getting a divorce, you are a woman with a child. After your divorce, when you get Mingzhu’s custody, you will practically fall in the single mother category.

Any man that comes into your life is not just involved with you, he is also involved with my niece. If they break your heart, they break hers. You need stability Mei Mei, if the kid is not stable, break it off before it is too late.

Most of the younger guys I know....they are still figuring things out. What if he wakes up one day and decides that he wants something different?"

Mei Mei crossed her arms. "Mo Liang is a year older than me and yet he provided none of the stability you are speaking of. He also broke Mingzhu’s heart in pieces that will never be mended. Age does not guarantee stability Mingzhe. People are who are they are, no matter how old they are.

Jingzhe has always been responsible, hard working, caring, loving.....you should see Mingzhu with him."

"What about you with him? Does he make you happy?" He asked. "Do not date a man just because he is a good father to your daughter but not a good boyfriend or husband to you. If you live like that, you will be miserable and in the end, Mingzhu will be miserable as well."

"I know." she smiled. "Brother, if something like that happens, then I will live as a single mother and you will step in as the heroic uncle to play the role of Mingzhu’s father when necessary.

But first, I think I ought it to myself, Mingzhu and Jingzhe to try before throwing in the towel. The three of us deserve to be happy."

Mingzhe threw his hands up and stood up. "As long as you have thought it through. I like the kid so I am open to watching how he does. If he wrongs you, he will become a permanent resident in an underwater submarine prison in an undisclosed location."

Mei Mei chuckled, "How come Mo Liang never became a resident there?"

He removed his feet from the table and leaned forward, speaking with zeal, "Trust me, I tried many times but mom always stopped me. She believed that you needed to see for yourself what a bastard he was so that you would walk away from him willingly. If he went missing out of the blue with you still a love brain, you would have spent the rest of your life and resources searching for him.

You would have turned him into a martyr. A movie about you would be released one hundred years later. You would be remembered as the wife that stood on some corner handing out fliers of your missing husband until you froze to death outside a police station."

"I think I have seen a movie like that." She replied. "And I would not have frozen outside a police station. I have a daughter to raise. I would not have died and left Mingzhu to fend for herself in the Mo family."

"Speaking of the Mo family, a warrant just came down for the arrest of Mo Chenyu."

"Why am I not surprised?" Mei Mei sneered. "He was always shady, sneaking around like a criminal. At every family gathering, he would come driving the most flashy car, accompanied by models or influencers. He would deck himself up in expensive jewelry. Him and Mo Liang, they used to be thick as thieves before he went to space. What did Chenyu do?"

"Ivory smuggling. He runs a whole ring of traffickers and he has been in the business for nine years. From the looks of things, when he is arrested he will be imprisoned for life. The fines alone will cripple him financially. I hear he will be fined between ten to fifteen million yuan."

Mei Mei shook her head, clicking her tongue three times. "Oh, I can’t wait to see...." She shook her head. "Never mind, I am not a member of the Mo family so I will not be able to see the look on his face when he is arrested. You should tell whoever is investigating the case to look into Mo Liang as well. I have a feeling that he was involved in some way."

"I already did that." he smiled, "We are twins indeed. Go take a bath before your little boyfriend breaks down the door in search of you."

"He is not little." Mei Mei raised her voice, tossing the pillow at him again.

The little boyfriend they were speaking of was downstairs, waiting to pick up Mingzhu who had just been dropped off.

He spread his arms out, asking for a hug as soon he saw her in the crowd of people that were entering the gates of the camp.

"Daddy." The little girl screamed out in a childish voice. She broke into a run and threw herself into his arms. "Daddy, did you come to wait for Mingzhu?"

He nodded and kissed her on the head before taking her bag from her shoulders and lifting her up.

The sight of them was quite pleasant to some of the onlookers. The picture of a good looking young father and a cute daughter that was talking non-stop, telling him about her day set against the backdrop of a fading sunset was quite beautiful.

"Guess what?" he said.

Minghzu stopped chattering and her eyes widened. The words guess what were always followed with a surprise of some kind. Anticipation burst through her tiny body like a fire cracker.

"What is it daddy--what?"
