Chapter 88: A bad day to be an egg thief.

"Now, don’t kill me." Mei Mei said to the largest hen that was closest to her. "I just need one egg, that is if the size of your eggs matches up to your bizarre size. What did they feed you to grow this big? You are not a chicken, you are a chicken-strich, half chicken-half ostrich." She tiptoed further and further into the barn.

The hen closed its eyes, it seemed to be rather bored and tired of waiting for her to make a move. The rest of the chicken were dozing peacefully, nestled on piles of gigantic eggs.

Mei Mei reached the hen, reached under it and touched one egg.

"Mommy, Mingzhu has come to help." Her daughter’s loud childish voice called out from the entrance of the bar.

Shit! Mei Mei thought.

The hen snapped opened its beady eyes.

Double shit!! Mei Mei thought.

She grabbed the egg tighter and turned around to escape and that was when she heard the loudest screech she had ever heard in her life. It was loud enough to wake the dead.

"Run," she yelled out to Mingzhu, quickening her steps while clutching the stolen egg to her chest. freēnovelkiss.com

Behind her, the hen puffed up like a balloon, her feathers bristling and she started a chase of her own, going after the egg thief. No matter how fast Mei Mei was, the hen was faster. It leaped in the air and stretched out a leg, kicking her like an expert ninja. Mei Mei stumbled, fell onto the grass, rolled down a hill and the egg went flying from her hands.

The hen leaped up again, headbutted the egg midair like a soccer ball, sending it hurtling towards Mei Mei. SPLAT! it landed on her head-egg yolk everywhere. Mei Mei was in shock that she remained down for a moment, blinking in confusion, dripping in golden goo. Mingzhu covered her mouth to hide the giggles.

The hen huffed in victory, fluffed up her feathers, turned around and went back into the barn. Before leaving, it turned around and sent Mei Mei a warning look like it was saying, Try again-I dare you.

Mei Mei huffed and heaved, she got up and put her hands on her waist. "If I don’t fry you today, I am not Jun Meilin, the greatest socialite that ever lived. I will not be bullied by a hen in a game."

She run up the hill and met with Minghzu. Not surprising, Lian and Jingzhe had found their way to the farm. What was surprising was that Jingzhe had a chicken in hand and Lian was carrying a basket of four gigantic eggs.

"What--what?" she stammered.

Jingzhe waved eagerly, "Mei Mei, we got the eggs and tomatoes. Let’s go and harvest the rice. But...." He broke off and took in the sight of her. "What happened to you?"

"Mommy stole an egg from one of the cranky chickens." Mingzhu shared.

She and Lian giggled, their tiny laughter were carried across the hill.

"You didn’t read the rules of the farm, did you?" Jingzhe asked her.

She shook her head. Jingzhe directed her to where the rules were, they were written outside the barn. The chicken had been classified in three categories, Cranky chicken [The ones who are always annoyed for no reason.] Mean chicken [The ones plotting world domination from the barn.] Nice chickens [The ones that will give you all their eggs willingly and pop some more just because.]

The chicken even had names. Under cranky chicken were listed along with their pictures.

Grumpella, Sour Nugget ,Moody Stuart ,Squawkzilla, Grouchy Yao.

There were ten more names but the one she had just tangled with was Sour Nugget.

The mean chicken had interesting names too like; Beak the Menace, Mad Hen-ry, Long the Fury, Talon the Terrible.

As for the nice chicken, their names were nothing but sugary. Buttercup, Chip, Fluffy Biscuit, Sweet cherry, Delight, Sunny Baby.

Mei Mei took a deep breath and vowed to read the rules next time or else one day a cow might piss milk on her head. As annoyed as she was, she saw the humor in the names of the chicken which made her chuckle a bit.

She marched into the barn and peeked at Sour nugget. The hen was still awake, back to sitting on her eggs. When it saw Mei Mei a glint of fury crossed its eyes.

She pointed two fingers at her eyes and turned them in Sour Nugget’s direction. "Until next time you chicken from hell. I will be back and I will eat your eggs if it is the last thing I do."

Sour Nugget ignored Mei Mei, closed her eyes and went back to sleep, content that nobody would be taking her eggs that day.

"Okay." Jingzhe pulled her out of the barn. "We have already had one rivalry which made no sense today, let’s not add another."

The battle between little fatty and manager Gao was all the drama they needed and it was not over yet. It would end when the weekend camping trip was brought to an end and they all returned to their homes.

In the end, it was thanks to Jingzhe that they managed to get all the ingredients needed and finally, Mei Mei prepared four services of omurice. They all disconnected from the game and rushed to the food vending machines which were connected to the junior chef planet game world.

Mei Mei saw a row with her name on it and a price of one thousand five hundred yuan.

"One thousand five hundred yuan!!!" she exclaimed.

"You didn’t look at the price list of ingredients, did you?" Jingzhe asked.

Mei Mei stubbornly folded her lips. She had heard those words in much more judgemental tones when she was growing up. She came from a wealthy family and she was spoiled so she never looked at prices when she was shopping.

This of course changed when she married Mo Liang. But now, this was a game. It didn’t cross her mind that she would have to pay read world cash for food from the game.

Jingzhe put the cash in the machine and four trays of food were pushed out. They carried the food out to the dining area and opened the silver food boxes. The smell was what hit their nostrils first. Then came the color of the dish, it was golden perfection.

"Wow, its real!!" Lian’s eyes almost fell out of the socket. "Aunt, how is this real?"

"Robots in the back cook the food." Mei Mei told her.

That was the explanation the system had given her. Behind the vending machines was an automated system and robots which prepared the meal, reproducing the taste and design the chef had chosen. So, if your food was ugly, it was coming out ugly. If the taste was terrible, it was coming out that way.

"Mommy, aaaah.." Mingzhu opened her small mouth widely, waiting to be fed.

Jingzhe busied himself taking pictures of the food first which he posted to his moments. Whether the robot had played a hand in its preparation or not, Mei Mei had cooked it. It was his first time eating her food and he was excited. He almost wished that Mo Liang were there to see it.
