Loser to Legend: Gathering Wives with My Unlimited Money System-Chapter 39: Getting Paid
Chapter 39: Getting Paid
Dominic Hart, a brutal and cruel, but also skilled and commendable cop, whom everyone feared, and if he was your interrogator, you are finished.
Even if you were innocent, you would confess to the false accusation and the crime you didn’t commit. That’s how powerful Dominic Hart was. He played with his target’s feelings by blackmailing them and manipulating them.
It was just another day for him where he had to interrogate a boy who came from a village and was seemingly uneducated.
How hard could it be? He had thought. Today was an easy target! He had thought.
However, now, the very same Dominic Hart, was sitting hopelessly in front of the boy whom he considered worthless.
Xavier stretched his arms leisurely, his smirk sharp. "The next five minutes can either be the longest five minutes of your life, or the shortest." His gaze locked onto Dominic’s, his voice dripping with amusement. "The decision is up to you."
Dominic’s hands trembled as he handed Xavier’s phone back to him. And said, "I will turn off the jammer for a minute, so call your team and tell them to not make anything public."
"And why should I do that? What’s in it for me?"
"Argh! Fine!" Dominic let out a frustrated groan. "I will let you go freely from the prison. Happy?!"
Xavier frowned his face and glared at Dominic. "Hey, do you think you are in any position to set terms? You will have to do what I ask you to do. Without any questions asked."
"..."
"Unless, of course, you want to destroy everything you have built and achieved so far in your life."
Dominic’s heartbeat was so loud that even Xavier could hear it. It was as though his heart would explode at any moment.
"Fine. But I also have one request. You will hand over all the evidence to me." With a defeated look on his face, Dominic calmly asked, "What do you want?"
[Daily task triggered: Get paid!]
"Hmm~" Xavier hummed in amusement as he wasted time. "I haven’t really thought about it. What should I ask for?" He looked at Dominic.
"Stop wasting time! There are only four minutes left!" Dominic shouted impatiently.
"Okay. I have decided. I want three things."
"Aren’t you getting a bit greedy?" Dominic frowned.
"Oh well," Xavier shrugged his shoulders as he got up from his hair. "Then I will watch your world burn from my cell."
"Argh! Goddammit! What do you want? I will fulfill all your requests! But in return, nothing happens to my son."
"Okay, so my first request is..." Xavier raised his finger and looked into Dominic’s eyes before continuing, "One million dollars."
"What?! Are you out of your mind?!" Dominic got up from his chair. "Do you even know how big of an amount that is and how many zeros are there?!"
"Oh, come on. Don’t be like that. Since there are four culprits, it’s only 250k per person. Wait..." Xavier rubbed his chin as he pondered. "Now that I think about it, isn’t it a bit too low? That’s not the correct value of their life."
Dominic regretted opposing Xavier’s request. He promised himself that he wouldn’t say a word and fulfill all of Xavier’s requests without asking a single question. Otherwise, who knows when he will change his mind?
"Okay. How about 2.5 million?"
Dominic let out a sigh. ’That’s not a lot. I should agree to his—"
And then, Xavier added, "Per person."
Dominic’s eyes widened in surprise. "That’s... ten million...." He managed to stutter.
"Is it still too low?" Xavier teased Dominic. "You see, I don’t really know how much the evidence is worth and how much you care about your son."
"Fine!" Dominic responded in an instant. "I will talk with the parents of the other three and transfer the amount soon!"
Xavier let out a victorious smirk on his face.
"Now! Tell me your other two requests! Only two minutes left now!"
"Now, now. Don’t pressure me like that. I can’t think well under pressure, you know?" Xavier sat on the chair and took a deep breath. He truly didn’t know what to ask for.
"Hurry!"
"Oh! Right!" Xavier pointed his finger at Dominic. "You have to drop me off at the academy, the very same way you came to arrest me. I want the same amount of vehicles and officers."
"I. want. the. exact. Same. officers." Xavier repeatedly slapped his fist on the table. "And you have to drop me off with respect and also announce my innocence the same way you framed and accused me."
"Agreed."
"Good. you might think I wasted my request like that since I am not gaining anything from it. But I am! Respect! I am getting my respect back! You see, my father never really gave me life advice or anything, but he always taught me one thing. And that was to never bow and beg to anyone for anything, even if it belongs to you. He taught me to reclaim and earn it back!"
Dominic ignored everything Xavier was saying and inquired, "What’s the third thing?!"
"I haven’t thought of it, so keep it pending. I will let you know when I want something."
Dominic handed Xavier’s phone to him and said, "Hurry! Call your people and tell them to not make anything public!"
"Geez. Why are you so impatient?" Xavier unlocked his phone and glanced at Dominic, who was staring at him.
"What are you looking at, you shit?" Xavier asked with a disgusted look on his face and gave a dismissive hand to Dominic. "Go and stand in that corner with your back turned towards me."
Dominic rushed to the corner like a dog, standing as Xavier commanded.
Dominic was strong and powerful. Just one punch, and Xavier would be out cold.
But now?
Xavier was making him dance on the tips of his fingers.
Xavier shot a quick glance at Dominic before pretending to call someone, and after a few seconds, Xavier said, "Hey, it’s me. Postpone the launch a bit. Don’t do anything unless I ask you to."
After a pause, Xavier said, "Oh! And if I don’t contact you within the next twenty-four hours, then go ahead and make everything public. No matter what happens."
Xavier pretended to hang up the call and let out a sigh.
"As you must’ve heard, I’ve delayed the launch of your destruction." His gaze locked onto Dominic’s back. "Unless I get everything I want, I won’t hand over anything to you." frёewebηovel.cѳm
Of course, none of it existed.
But Dominic didn’t know that.
