Chapter 64: MOTHER-IN-LAW KNOWS BEST

[Two hours ago...]

WHEN Sohee woke up, he found himself lying down on a bed.

It seemed like he was in a hospital ward since he was sharing the room with other patients.

That was when he slowly remembered what happened before he fainted.

Right.

I brought myself to the hospital before I lost consciousness.

But he only managed to do that because he got help from a kind ahjussi.

"Kid, you’re awake?"

Oh?

Sohee smiled when he saw the kind taxi driver who drove him to the hospital. "Ahjussi, did you wait for me because I haven’t paid you yet?"

It was a half-joke.

Fortunately, the old man responded lightheartedly.

"Yes, you brat. I’m only here for your money."

"Don’t worry, Ahjussi. I’ll repay you handsomely."

The old man just waved his hand. "I called the police and they’ll be here soon. You said you were kidnapped, didn’t you?"

"That’s right, Ahjussi. Thank you," Sohee said, pausing for a moment. "Can I borrow your phone? Mine isn’t working. I just need to call a few people."

"I’ll add this to your tab."

"No problem, Ahjussi."

Sohee broke his finger.

Thankfully, it was on the left hand.

Since he was right-handed, he didn’t have a problem using the phone. His shoulders and arms hurt like hell, but he endured as he made the phone call.

Of course, the first person Sohee called was Kim Heedo.

However...

Kim Heedo’s phone is off?

He tried calling his husband again and again, but to no avail.

When Kim Heedo still didn’t pick up the phone at the 9th time Sohee called, he decided to call his mother-in-law’s personal number.

Thank goodness I memorized all of the Kims’ phone numbers.

"Ah, they’re here," the kind old taxi driver exclaimed when police officers entered the ward. "Sir, here! We’re the ones who called you!"

The police officers approached them at the same time President Kim Nari picked up the call.

I should also contact Manager Sangwoo since they might be worried about me.

Then another worrying thought suddenly crossed Sohee’s mind.

If I’m going to sue my kidnappers, then I need a good lawyer...

"Mother-in-law, it’s me— Park Sohee," Sohee said politely. "Uhm, Mother-in-law, can I be represented by your family’s legal representatives?"

"MOTHER-IN-LAW, did Manager Sangwoo and the bodyguard ahjussi give their statement to the police?"

"Sohee-ya, I’ll take care of everything," his mother-in-law said gently. "Just rest for now."

Aww.

His mother-in-law was horrified when she found Sohee in the ward earlier.

Almost immediately, his mother-in-law requested a transfer.

The next thing I know, I’m already in the VIP Room even though I’m completely fine now.

"My secretary and our family’s legal representatives are already cooperating with the police. According to my secretary, Lee Junsu’s manager and bodyguard had already given their statement. They’ll be summoned again later. But I told them to do it once you’ve recovered a bit. For now, the police are already chasing your kidnappers. They’ll give us an update once the criminals are caught."

Sohee was relieved to hear that. "Mother-in-law, the ahjussi who helped me..."

"We’ve already rewarded the taxi driver who helped you."

"I haven’t thanked him properly yet..."

His mother-in-law smiled. "I knew you’d say that. Don’t worry, we already know where he lives. You can visit him and thank him personally once you’ve completely recovered."

Aww.

Mother-in-law really knows me so well.

"Sohee-ya."

"Yes, Mother-in-law?"

"My secretary talked to Lee Junsu’s manager, so we already have the gist of what happened."

Oh.

"While my secretary was talking to the manager, that person received a call from your university’s Student Council President."

Was it the hyung that Kim Heedo respects?

"Lee Junsu was taken to this hospital because of a panic attack."

"Aigoo," Sohee commented worriedly. "I knew he didn’t look well earlier."

"Kim Heedo was the one who brought Lee Junsu here."

"Oh."

"My stupid son has been taking care of Lee Junsu while you were suffering alone," President Kim Nari said bitterly. "I’m sorry for my son’s negligence of you, Sohee-ssi."

Sohee wanted to say that it was alright, but for some reason, he couldn’t bring himself to say those words.

Maybe I’m not really alright.

***

PARK SOHEE was just next door.

Kim Heedo couldn’t believe that while he was with Lee Junsu, Park Sohee had already gone through a lot.

All because he decided to help Lee Junsu...

Yes, Heedo heard everything from Lee Junsu and Manager Sangwoo.

And the fact that Park Sohee was confined in the same hospital.

"Sohee Hyung!"

"Quiet— Sohee has just fallen asleep."

Ah.

It would be an understatement to say that Heedo was shocked to see his mother in Park Sohee’s VIP Room.

His mother was sitting on the sofa while busy with her computer tablet.

Park Sohee, on the other hand, was sleeping on the bed.

Sohee Hyung... he’s hurt...

Park Sohee had a bandage wrapped around his head, his face was a mess, and there were visible abrasions and bruises on his exposed skin.

"You’re late, son."

Heedo turned his gaze away from Park Sohee and faced his mother politely. "How’s Hyung, Eomma?"

"Sohee jumped out of the van that his kidnappers used to take him away," his mother explained, her eyes still focused on her computer tablet. "Luckily, the worst injury he got was a concussion and a broken finger."

He was relieved that Park Sohee didn’t suffer major injuries.

Hyung always gets hurt because of me...

"Eomma, why are you here?"

Oh, Heedo didn’t phrase his question well.

Hence, he fully accepted his mother’s sarcastic response.

"Sohee called me because he couldn’t reach his husband during an emergency."

Right.

Now Heedo felt so stupid for turning off his phone.

His mother lifted her head and gave him a cold look. "Sohee only called me after the doctors were done patching him up. And he only called me because he wanted to ask if he could borrow our legal representatives for his case."

Heedo clenched his hands tight. "Did they catch the kidnappers?"

"Yes, and I’ll make sure they’ll rot in jail," his mother said, standing up. "I almost didn’t answer the call since it was from an unknown number. Fortunately, Shaman Jung gave me a piece of advice the last time we saw each other. He told me to keep my lines open, especially during an unexpected moment."

Ah.

Shaman Jung only talks to Grandfather in the past. But now, he keeps showing off his divine powers as if he wants my entire family to trust him.

However, Heedo couldn’t complain this time since the shaman’s advice helped a lot.

"Kim Heedo, your poor husband brought himself to the hospital."

"Huh?"

"You heard me right, son," his mother said, smiling bitterly. "After Sohee jumped out of the car, the taxi driver who almost ran him over helped him. Park Sohee chose to ride the taxi instead of calling an ambulance. As soon as he arrived here, he passed out."

Heedo clenched his jaw, hating himself the more his mother explained what happened.

Sohee Hyung...

"When he woke up, the doctors had already patched him up," his mother continued with the story. "Only then did he call me."

Heedo shut his eyes tight.

I messed up big time.

"Sohee already knows that you were with Lee Junsu all this time."

Heedo opened his eyes, surprised.

"Son, I understand that Lee Junsu is special to you. And I understand that he needed your help this time," his mother said, sighing. "But if you’re going to neglect Park Sohee because of your ex-boyfriend, then just divorce your husband."

***

KIM HEEDO was only able to breathe when his mother finally left the room to talk to the police.

It should be his job as Park Sohee’s husband.

But his mother just told him to stay by his hyung’s side.

It was a good thing that he stayed because Park Sohee then opened his eyes.

"Hyung," Heedo greeted Park Sohee worriedly. "How are you feeling?"

"What are you doing here, Kim Heedo?" Park Sohee asked casually, still sleepy. "Lee Junsu needs you more than I do."

Ah.

Park Sohee didn’t sound angry, bitter, or sad.

Park Sohee wasn’t being sarcastic either.

Park Sohee was just giving Heedo indifference.

And, somehow, Sohee Hyung’s indifference is scarier than his anger...
