Chapter 65: BLUNT CONFESSION(?)

"LEE JUNSU needs you more than I do," Sohee said to Kim Heedo casually. "So, I wouldn’t have minded had you stayed with him longer."

"Then what about Hyung?" Kim Heedo asked. "Who’s going to take care of you?"

"It should have been you."

"..."

"I called you several times, but your phone was off," Sohee said. He knew that Kim Heedo was getting hurt by his words, but he had to say the things his husband needed to hear. "Heedo-ya, I know we’re not married for love. But we’re still married, and we have a good relationship. That’s why I wanted to lean on you. I’m used to taking care of myself, but now that I have you, I thought I could depend on my husband for a change. Am I wrong, Kim Heedo?"

"No, Hyung," Kim Heedo said, his shoulders slouched. "I’m sorry. I’ll never turn off my phone again. I don’t want something like this to happen to you again. But if it does, please call me."

"What would you do if I called you because of an emergency, but Lee Junsu also happened to be in a bind?"

"Hyung..."

"Let’s be for real, Heedo-ya. Even if you didn’t turn off your phone, I don’t think you’d abandon Lee Junsu for me."

"How could I abandon someone who had fainted, Hyung? But had I known you were hurt, I wouldn’t have stayed with Lee Junsu for that long. I would have just called someone else to look after him."

"Would you have run to me even after you found out that I was perfectly fine?"

"Of course, Hyung."

"Well, had I known you were with Lee Junsu, I wouldn’t have called you."

"Why wouldn’t you call me, Hyung?"

"I jumped out of a moving van and almost got hit by a taxi, but I still managed to get up fine. I did faint after arriving at the hospital, but I did well staying conscious for that long," Sohee said, amazed by himself. And then he carefully touched his arms. His body still hurt like hell, but not as much as it did earlier. "Alphas are known for their above-average strength and their ability to heal faster than the rest of us."

Yeah, that was how amazing Alphas were.

That’s why ’Alpha Privilege’ exists.

"But maybe I secretly have some Alpha genes or something?" Sohee wondered out loud. "Or is it because I’m a Dominant Omega? Either way, I think I’m physically stronger than normal Omegas."

"Hyung, what are you talking about?"

"I’m saying I don’t need you, Heedo-ya," Sohee said, smiling. He wasn’t trying to be mean to Kim Heedo because he understood the kid’s situation well, but he couldn’t help it since it was better to be direct than to beat around the bush. "But I want to depend on you. Just because I’m used to taking care of myself doesn’t mean I don’t get tired. So, when I feel exhausted, I want to be able to depend on someone. Of course, I’m not saying you need to care for me 24/7, and I’m not trying to be clingy. I just want an assurance that you’ll be there for me when I want you by my side. Is that too much to ask?"

"It’s my responsibility to take care of you, Hyung," Kim Heedo said, and he somehow sounded determined even though he looked depressed just a moment ago. "And I’m the one who keeps telling you to be greedier and more selfish. If that’s your request, then I’ll make Hyung my number one priority. I’ll prioritize you over Lee Junsu."

Duh?

"I’m glad you got it right this time, Heedo-ya. In the first place, you shouldn’t even have Lee Junsu as your priority. You’re married, and he’s in a committed relationship. It doesn’t matter to me because I married you knowing that you’re still obsessed with your ex-boyfriend. But if you continue clinging to Lee Junsu like this, then I’ll feel bad for Sanha-ssi."

To be honest, Sohee knew he was crossing the line.

He was just a contract husband.

Even if Kim Heedo acts pathetic because of his ex-boyfriend, it should be none of my business.

But Sohee didn’t feel like letting Lee Junsu steal his luck.

Yep, after this tragic incident, I think Lee Junsu is the one who wants to steal my luck and replace me.

To be fair, he didn’t have solid evidence to prove that Lee Junsu wanted to harm him.

But his consecutive misfortunes couldn’t be a mere coincidence, right?

First, I was almost smothered to death because of Kim Heedo’s stalker who turned out to be Lee Junsu’s "friend." Then I got kidnapped by Lee Junsu’s "hater." I’ve almost died because of people connected to Lee Junsu. I should consult Shaman Jung about this later.

Then, once Sohee had enough evidence— or, at least a convincing argument— he would share everything with Kim Heedo.

I’m not sure if Kim Heedo will believe me, though.

"Hyung."

"Yeah?"

"I’m curious about one thing," Kim Heedo said in a serious tone. "I heard from Sangwoo-ssi that you refused to help initially. But why did you change your mind?"

"I have two reasons," Sohee said, willing to answer Kim Heedo’s question since it was not something he should be hiding anyway. "First of all, I felt bad after seeing how Lee Junsu looked like he would faint at any moment because of anxiety."

While I suspect Lee Junsu to be the mastermind behind my misfortunes, it doesn’t mean I think he was faking his fear of his hater. Two things can be true at the same time.

"I didn’t know that posing as him to distract his hater would be dangerous, so I just went along with Manager Sangwoo’s plan," Sohee said casually, shrugging. "But I don’t regret it. After all, the main reason I helped Lee Junsu was because of you, Heedo-ya."

"Me?" Kim Heedo asked, confused and curious. "What do you mean by that, Hyung?"

"I know you care about Lee Junsu, so I helped him."

"Just because of me?"

"What do you mean "just" because of you? I didn’t want you to get hurt or sad if something bad happened to Lee Junsu, so I lent them a hand."

"Hyung, you care about me that much?"

"Am I not allowed to care about you?"

"But I haven’t done anything good to you ever since we got married..."

"You make me feel good whenever we have sex, though?"

Kim Heedo frowned, but his entire face already turned red. "Hyung, I’m being serious here."

"Sorry, sorry," Sohee said, laughing softly. But he instantly turned serious since he didn’t want Kim Heedo to think that he wasn’t taking him seriously. "I’m still not sure whether your family has already accepted me as one of you, or if they’re just treating me well because your fortune depends on me. But I’m still grateful that I met them because of our marriage, Heedo-ya. I like you, but as of this moment, I like your family better. That’s why I want to treasure you. After all, you’re the one who connects me to the family I never had."

"Hyung, did you say you like me?"

"I blurted out an entire paragraph full of sentiments, and that was your only takeaway?"

"Hyung, do you like me romantically?"

"Yes, I have a big crush on you. It’s embarrassing to say that word at my age, but that’s the term that explains my feelings well."

Kim Heedo looked shocked.

"Didn’t I tell you that a mere contract won’t stop you from developing feelings for your partner? So why do you look shocked?" Sohee asked. He was trying to play it cool, but he was actually quite nervous. "I wouldn’t say I’m in love with you. I’m not at that point yet. In fact, if I were forced to choose between you and your mother, I’d choose your mother in a heartbeat. It might sound pathetic to you, but I really want your mother to see me as her own son and not just someone who keeps your family prosperous."

"It’s not pathetic."

"Did you forget that I cried because you made me feel that way when you realized I was clinging to your family desperately?"

"I already apologized for that, but I’ll apologize again, Hyung."

"Nah, it’s fine," Sohee said, and then he went straight to the point. "Does it make you uncomfortable? The fact that I’m starting to develop feelings for you?"

"..."

"I said I would terminate our contract as fuck buddies once I’ve fallen in love with you. But that hasn’t happened yet. Having said that, if the fact that I have a crush on you makes you uncomfortable, we can end our physical relationship here and now."

"It’s not that it makes me uncomfortable, Hyung. But I’m just worried about you."

"Ah, don’t worry about me. I have a crush on you, but not to the point that I want to date you yet," Sohee assured Kim Heedo, and he was telling the truth. "But when the time comes that I feel like I want you to reciprocate my feelings, then I’ll confess again and seduce you. Because, honestly, what’s stopping you from using me to move on from your ex-boyfriend?"

"Will you really be fine being a rebound, Hyung?"

"Why not? It’s not a good start, but I can make do with that."

Kim Heedo’s face lit up. "You must really have a big crush on me, Hyung."

"Maybe, maybe not," Sohee said, laughing. But he turned serious when he said, "But once you turn out to be a huge waste of time, I’d divorce you in a heartbeat, Kim Heedo."
