Married For Now-Chapter 71: INFERIORITY COMPLEX
Chapter 71: INFERIORITY COMPLEX
KIM HEEDO’s parents raised him humbly.
It was true that he grew up in luxury, but he didn’t grow up arrogant and ignorant like most of his peers.
His parents drilled into his skull that their money wasn’t his money.
That even though he was the grandson of the chairman of the Ilsung Group, he was still just a boy lucky enough to be born into a wealthy family.
Hence, bragging about his family’s wealth didn’t even cross his mind.
The people who know about me being the grandson of the Ilsung Group are either my closest friends, or people I met during an important social gathering. And those people know how to keep their mouths shut about my status.
Hence, he kept a low profile even at school.
His family wasn’t big on wearing famous luxury brands with obvious logos in the first place. They tended to choose brands that catered to quiet luxury. Brands like that provided them with high-quality and minimalist pieces with timeless appeal.
That was why Heedo was able to have a slightly normal life.
People knew that he was rich, but they didn’t know that he was actually a chaebol. Hence, he didn’t have a problem socializing with his peers. He also didn’t have to worry whether they had ulterior motives for coming close to him or not.
However...
"I saw the message you sent to the group chat. You’re practically inviting everyone in our major to have dinner at a famous place. And it’s your treat? Wow."
That sarcastic remark came from Choi Namgyu— a fourth year from the same major, and also an Alpha.
This bastard is the son of the founder of Nectasoft— one of the biggest game development companies in South Korea. His father was once dubbed as the "most hated person" of all mothers in the country. All because he created an addicting mobile game that hooked an entire generation of youths.
"Someone is loaded, huh?"
"It’s not like that, Sunbae-nim," Heedo said, his business smile still plastered on his face. He was used to dealing with people like Lee Junhyuk since most Alphas were as difficult as this prick. "I’m just lucky to be friends with Han Raehyun. He’s the one who helped me book his family’s restaurant." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Well, it was technically like that.
I just called Han Raehyun and informed him I’d like to book their restaurant for a night, and then he called his parents. After that, Han Raehyun’s parents called me to confirm that they could close the restaurant on the date I chose.
"It’s good to have self-awareness, hoobae-nim," Choi Namgyu said, still being sarcastic. "You have good connections, huh?"
Sung Soochan and Go Minsu— Choi Namgyu’s minions (both Beta)— snickered.
I remembered their names even if I didn’t want to since they would often leave sarcastic comments on my social media posts.
Hmm.
If Sohee Hyung was here, he would definitely enjoy this "drama" since Choi Namgyu and his friends are acting like third-rate villains.
Heedo couldn’t help but smile at the thought.
"You bastard," Choi Namgyu said, suddenly getting angry on his own. "Did you just sneer at me?"
Heedo raised an eyebrow when Choi Namgyu suddenly came at him.
But Kwon Gaon quickly blocked Choi Namgyu while Yang Jaewon pulled Heedo to his side.
I don’t need protection, but thanks, I guess?
Anyway, Heedo scrunched his nose.
Since Choi Namgyu was pissed, his Alpha pheromones leaked— and the smell was horrendous.
I’m glad there’s no Omega in here.
"Namgyu Sunbae-nim, let’s not get physical," Yang Jaewon said in a friendly tone, but the sharp glint in his eyes said otherwise. "You know Kwon Gaon came from a family of professional fighters, right? If you resort to violence, we will do so as well. I mean, Kwon Gaon would. I’ll just be in charge of calling the police."
Choi Namgyu flinched, but he still acted tough by pushing Kwon Gaon.
Of course, Kwon Gaon didn’t even budge since Kwon Gaon was bigger and stronger than Choi Namgyu.
But Kwon Gaon did take a step back.
Probably to protect Choi Namgyu’s pride as a fellow Alpha.
"You are nothing without your wealthy and influential friends, Kim Heedo," Choi Namgyu said bitterly. "You act like you’re all that, and you make people believe that you’re a big shot. But, in reality, your family just runs a so-so business. You only use your truly rich and influential friends to make it seem like you’re a VIP, too."
Haaah.
Of course, even if you ask people to run a background check on me, you’ll only get a simple report that says my parents run a medium-sized advertising agency.
Heedo’s mother owned that business.
It’s an independent company from Ilsung Group, and it’s something that my mother inherited from the side of her family. Hence, only the executive directors know that the owner of the advertising agency is actually the wife of Ilsung Group’s Vice Chairman.
Heedo wanted to keep his identity as a chaebol a secret, so his family background had already been neatly prepared by the Ilsung Group’s elite PR Team.
That’s why Choi Namgyu believes I’m just an average rich kid.
No, scratch that.
Choi Namgyu believes that he’s above me because he thinks his family’s company is bigger than mine.
However, there was a reason why Choi Namgyu was acting this way.
"Sunbae-nim, you’re free to think that your family background is above mine," Heedo said, his tone still polite, and so was his business smile. "But you know what’s something that you can’t look down on about me?" He patted his chest. "It’s the fact that I was born a Dominant Alpha. You know how the saying goes, right?" He raised his chin on purpose, and then he looked down at Choi Namgyu since he was taller than the bastard anyway. "Not all Alphas are created equal, Sunbae-nim."
Yes, Choi Namgyu hated Heedo just because Heedo was a Dominant Alpha.
This bastard thinks I don’t deserve to be a Dominant Alpha because I’m not elite— that he deserves it more for having a more "affluent" background.
Which was funny.
After all, I never saw this bastard in any exclusive social functions I had been to.
Choi Namgyu didn’t belong to a chaebol family, after all.
To be fair, Nectasoft had the potential to be bigger than they are— but they suck at managing their company.
Anyways, Heedo wanted to suppress Choi Namgyu with his own pheromones.
However, the bastard wasn’t worth it.
I’d rather shower Sohee Hyung with my scent than waste it on an insecure prick.
"You arrogant bastard," Choi Namgyu said through gritted teeth— his stinky pheromones getting stronger the angrier he got. "I’m gonna kill you."
Choi Namgyu tried to come at Heedo again, but his minions stopped it this time.
They probably got scared of Kwon Gaon who has a murderous look on his face now.
"L-Let’s go, Namgyu-ya."
"That kid isn’t worth our time."
Choi Namgyu looked like he was about to curse, but...
"Namgyu Sunbae, are you bullying our Heedo again?"
Everyone turned to Hong Sera.
The chaebol princess didn’t come alone, of course.
Han Raehyun was standing next to Hong Sera— frowning, as he probably caught whiff of Choi Namgyu’s awful scent in the air.
Thankfully, Sera is a Beta so she doesn’t smell anything.
"You got lucky, Kim Heedo," Choi Namgyu said bitterly. "The chaebol princess just saved your ass."
"No, it was your life that I saved today, Sunbae," Hong Sera said, scoffing at Choi Namgyu. Then she pointed at Heedo, Yang Jaewon, and Kwon Gaon. "Those three are my faithful servants, and they promised me they won’t show me violent things. Isn’t that right, boys?"
Heedo, Yang Jaewon, and Kwon Gaon answered at the same time: "Yes, Your Highness."
Hong Sera smiled smugly. "See? I saved your life, Sunbae."
Choi Namgyu glared at Hong Sera.
Han Raehyun immediately stood in front of Hong Sera protectively while shooting Choi Namgyu a cold look. "Drop it, Sunbae."
Choi Namgyu clicked his tongue, and then he stormed out of the room.
Of course, his two minions followed him.
Haaah.
Finally, those bastards are gone.
"Heedo-ya, why don’t you just end that rude sunbae for once?" Hong Sera complained, pouting. "That sunbae won’t stop until you teach him a lesson."
Heedo waved his hand nonchalantly. "That sunbae will graduate this year anyway."
Plus, I won’t let the likes of Choi Namgyu to ruin the reputation I’ve built up.
Hong Sera raised an eyebrow at him. "Heedo-ya, what if that sunbae targets Sohee Oppa just because Sohee Oppa is married to you?"
"Hey, Hong Sera. Do you honestly think a bastard like that can bully Sohee Hyung?" Heedo asked, laughing softly. "Sohee Hyung is scarier than me, you know?"
***
SOHEE smiled while reading the messages in the group chat.
He sent messages to all the group chats that he had with his classmates. Plus, he also invited people from the Webtoon Reading Club.
Kim Heedo said I can invite as many friends as I want.
After all, his husband rented the entire three floors of the restaurant.
Actually, after doing my research, I found out that only the first floor and the second floor serve meat. The third floor is actually a café called ’Cabin Coffee.’
"Hyung, will everyone you invited be coming over?" Kim Heedo asked while parking. They had just arrived at the Charcoal Tree House Restaurant for their dinner party. "You look excited."
"Most of the people I invited confirmed their attendance," Sohee said, and then he turned to Kim Heedo when he realized that his husband didn’t move after parking the car. "What’s wrong, Heedo-ya?"
"I need to give you a heads-up, Hyung."
"About what?"
"The sunbae-nims who have been bullying me might attend this dinner party," Kim Heedo said, sighing. "I’ll tell you who they are. So, if they bother you when I’m not around, please call me right away."
"Oh, sure," Sohee said, nodding. "I’ll act like a damsel tonight."
***
ACT LIKE a damsel, my ass.
Sohee didn’t want to admit this, but he might really be an adrenaline junkie deep inside.
But, in my defense, I really tried to stay out of trouble!
It was just that...
The "drama" was too good to ignore!
"Choi Namgyu, have you lost your mind?!"
That was Hong Sera, screaming at Choi Namgyu in a cracked voice.
"H-Hyung, are you alright? No, of course you’re not..."
That was Cho Euntak, wiping Sohee’s face with tissues since Sohee was drenched in beer.
Yes, that bastard Choi Namgyu poured a glass of beer over my head.
Sohee cursed under his breath. "Should I kill that bastard?"
How did this happen again?
