Chapter 396: The Hydra (Part 2)

With a new plan in mind, Vespera and I kept fighting the giant hydra in the center of the city, where we had to stay frantically flying around the area so the monster’s attacks wouldn’t get us.

Chaos had enveloped the entire city, and while I could use my "search" spell to get a rough idea of my team’s locations, there was so much happening that it was a bit overwhelming.

Moreover, we still needed to test our hypothesis about the burning of the hydra’s necks since we would have to come up with a new idea if it failed.

At one point, Vespera moved to the monster’s right side and caught the attention of the poison head, which shot a torrent of green, dense smoke from its mouth at my companion.

However, I knew better than anyone else that Vespera was immune to any type of poison, so she just stood in the center of the attack to bait the hydra.

With the other heads tracking my movement, I quickly flew around the monster and targeted his poison head, using wind magic to propel myself toward it.

When I was getting closer, the fire head from the center appeared beside me with its gaping mouth open, making me spin to the side to avoid getting eaten.

By the time I was mere centimeters away, the poison head stopped shooting Vespera, noticing that my companion was still standing in the same spot as if nothing happened.

’Good distraction...’ I thought, using my adamantite sword to fuse it with phoenix fire.

With the massive green neck before me, I sliced horizontally, applying a lot more magic into my attack, and the poison head was severed entirely.

["Now we gotta burn the neck!"] I said to my companion with telepathy.

Just as I cut off the hydra’s head, the others instantly targeted me, making me fly around quickly to avoid the barrage of projectiles shooting from their mouths.

Thankfully, the hydra was centered on me, so Vespera quickly flew up and stuck her hands inside the neck’s severed area, splashing green blood all over her.

Still, I could feel MP flowing from her, and in less than a second, she released a fiery explosion that left the green hydra’s neck totally scorched, making the monster let out a deafening screech that shook my bones.

We quickly retreated back into the skies, where the hydra had the most trouble catching us, and waited for a moment to see if it would regenerate.

However, after seeing it struggle for a couple of seconds, we knew we hit the jackpot and went back crashing down simultaneously.

Baiting it would be a little more challenging for my companion since she was only immune to the poison breath, but I wasn’t too worried about her as I was aware of how skilled she was.

When Vespera caught the attention of the double shadow heads, I tried to approach them from the other side, but the lightning head saw me and instantly started shooting lightning bolts from its mouth at me.

Seeing that I couldn’t get any closer, Vespera moved to the other side, and the heads switched targets at the same time. The two shadow heads stared at me while the lightning head turned 180 degrees to look at my companion.

Meanwhile, the ice and fire head in the center seemed to be protecting the necks of the adjacent head, so it was clear that the hydra was changing its strategy mid-fight like us.

["Screw it... I have more than enough MP to cast ’that,’"] I said telepathically to Vespera.

["Got it. I’ll keep it busy for a minute,"] she replied, frantically flying around the hydra as I pointed my palm to the skies while hovering in the air.

I was preparing the spell that Melina and I used to destroy the Kraken by creating a large disc in the sky with earth magic and a massive lens in the center to catch the sunlight.

However, the weather in the north wasn’t as good as in other places, as the dark clouds covered most of the sunlight, which made the spell take even longer to charge.

Suddenly, I saw Arashi flying by in her dragon form, stopping a few dozen meters away from me and generating a blast of magic that I felt all over my body. Nonetheless, it wasn’t anything harmful.

When I looked up, I realized that the dragon used her "weather control" skill to move the clouds away, allowing my spell to absorb even more sunlight.

["It’s ready!"] I said telepathically, prompting Vespera to get away from the hydra as quickly as possible.

Pointing my hand down below, I traced my finger going from one side of the hydra to the other.

After less than a second, a massive beam of light shot down and traveled along the trail I marked, cleanly slicing the remaining heads of the hydra.

The beam was hot enough to burn the necks, but we could still feel a bit of demonic energy flowing from them, so we knew they weren’t completely dead.

Without even thinking about it, Vespera and I caught up with the monster and used our hands to scorch the severed areas until its body finally stopped moving and flopped to the ground.

*Sigh* "Should be time for him by now..." I commented, keeping my gaze sharp while standing next to the hydra’s corpse.

Right as I called it, I felt a sudden surge of powerful demonic energy, and when I looked to the side, I spotted Drakzen slowly flying down, standing a little more than ten meters away from me.

"Oh, wow. What a clean kill!" said the devil with a mocking tone.

"Yeah? Wait ’til you see yours..." I replied, keeping my gaze on Drakzen.

"Hah, is that right!? How mean... And here I thought that we were bonding," the devil continued, chuckling slightly.

"I don’t have time for your games, Drakzen. Let’s get this over with already..." I said, taking out my bo and solidifying my stance.

"Oh, what do you mean?" the devil asked, letting out an eerie smile.

"Get this over with? We are just getting started!" he exclaimed.
