Chapter 404: Time Freeze

When Baelzor’s body drastically changed appearance and size, his massive frame destroyed everything around him.

Fortunately, the area where they were fighting had been cleared of citizens, so Baelzor’s destruction only targeted the buildings.

The monster was wholly unrecognizable as the shadowy energy had become a part of his body, his massive frame casting a dark shadow that darkened the ground below him, even though it was still daytime.

Suddenly, the shadows seemed to ’drip’ off Baelzor’s body into the ground and cover the surface with its pitch-black mist, disintegrating everything it touched.

As the black mist enveloped a small home and turned it into dust, Melina stood tall and unmoving from her spot, clenching her axe tightly in her hands.

The princess had a large radius of frozen solid ground around her, and her icy breeze kept spinning with ferocity.

When the shadows tried to spread into Melina’s frozen domain, it generated a magical reaction that dissipated the shadows as if a powerful gust of wind had blown it away.

"Raaarrghhh!" Baelzor shouted, his voice making the earth shake momentarily.

The demon had utterly lost his mind to his power, and seeing that it wasn’t overwhelming the princess, he went into a frenzy.

When Baelzor raised both of his arms high in the air, the shadows began to spread even faster, going around Melina’s frozen ground, which the devils’ magic couldn’t penetrate.

At that moment, Melina turned her head and saw Nessa was about to get caught in the shadow.

"Get away from her..." The princess muttered, her voice cold and severe.

With a single side step, Melina’s frozen ground extended all the way to Nessa’s location, which was at least twenty meters away from her.

In the blink of an eye, the princess was standing right next to her devil friend, protecting her from the disintegrating shadows.

’Dammit... I keep getting in her way,’ Nessa thought with frustration.

Nevertheless, the pink-haired devil wasn’t the only one getting frustrated, as Baelzor kept shouting loudly and increasing the speed of his shadows.

"He is going to keep going until he destroys the entire city..." Nessa muttered.

The pink-haired devil was still bleeding from her chest after being impaled earlier, and while her movements had slowed down dramatically, she still wanted to keep going.

With Melina standing next to her, Nessa began to release all of her demonic energy, making her horns grow even more prominent and her fangs come out of her mouth.

The princess gazed at her friend, not the least bit intimidated by her aura, raising an eyebrow in confusion.

"I’ll create an opening for you, Melina..." Nessa muttered, clenching her fists and getting into a solid stance.

’Hmm? Why would she do that?’ Melina pondered, her mind clouded by her awakened state.

At that moment, Nessa bolted out of the freezing area into the shadowy ground, her feet producing smoke as it tried to disintegrate her while she approached Baelzor.

*Tch!* Nessa gritted her teeth, enduring the pain from the disintegrating shadows.

’What...?’ The princess wondered as the sight of her friend running while suffering cleared her mind.

Letting out a loud battle cry, Nessa jumped high in the air, her fist charged with all of her demonic energy. Meanwhile, Baelzor punched down at her.

’No...’ Melina thought.

For a brief moment, as Nessa was mid-air going for her attack, Melina saw a small glimpse of the future, where the shadows on Baelzor’s body overtook Nessa and destroyed her.

Nessa’s power wouldn’t be enough to do any significant damage to the devil. It would create an opening for her to kill Baelzor, but Nessa would die too.

"STOP!" Melina shouted, her voice echoing loudly.

In the blink of an eye, the whole scenery fell silent, and the lightning became darker as if the sun were covered by a dark cloud.

Everything was frozen in place, but not from the princess’ ice attacks.

Nessa and Baelzor were seemingly frozen in time, with the pink-haired devil mid-air, not moving a single hair.

Even the ever-flowing shadows that covered Baelzor’s body had completely stopped their frantic movements.

When Melina gazed around her, her eyes shone brightly, and a couple of marks appeared on her face, looking like frozen veins.

Not even the princess knew exactly what she had done, but the sages who were watching the entire broadcast event had a clue.

Sage Louie, who was responsible for the spell recording everything, occasionally made a few comments to give the watchers some context.

"It... seems like the princess froze time itself..." Sage Louie commented in disbelief.

With an indifferent expression and a cold gaze, Melina slowly walked towards Baelzor, his body towering over most of the structures in the city.

When her feet touched the frozen disintegrating shadows, they had no effect on the princess, who strolled calmly along the scenery frozen in time until she was near Nessa.

Jumping high in the air, Melina waved her axe two times, producing two icy slices on Baelzor’s stretched arm and neck, which instantly froze in time right after appearing.

Seeing Nessa frozen mid-air, the princess grabbed her by the waist and took her to the ground away from Baelzor.

"Ngh..." Melina groaned, feeling her MP decreasing at an incredibly fast rate.

’Heh... I don’t know how to stop this,’ The princess thought.

Since she didn’t know how she managed to freeze time, she couldn’t think of a way to bring it back to normal. All she could do was wait for her MP to deplete to the point where she couldn’t hold the spell anymore.

*Sigh* Melina exhaled tiredly, sitting down on the ground next to her frozen friend.

A few seconds later, the entire scenery came back to life, making Nessa punch the air in front of her. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"Ehh?" The pink-haired devil wondered aloud.

She was mere meters away from crashing against Baelzor and suddenly appeared over twenty meters away from him.

When she looked up at her opponent, Melina’s frozen slices took effect, severing Baelzor’s arm and neck clean off.

As the massive devil’s head fell on the ground, a cloud of dust rose and slightly covered the sight of his headless body, dissipating along with the shadows.

"What... happened?" Nessa kept muttering, turning her head and finding the princess unconscious on the ground.

"Melina!" The pink-haired devil rushed to her side.

Placing her fingers on her neck to check for her pulse, the devil felt alleviated when she heard the princess’s heart beating.

’She used almost all her MP...’ Nessa deduced, scanning her surroundings to see if there was anyone close who could help.

She looked up to the skies to see if Arashi was flying nearby, but the storm dragon was nowhere to be seen.

Nessa didn’t carry any MP potions on her since she didn’t need them, so she had to think of a way to help the princess quickly.

With the holes in her chest still bleeding from Baelzor’s claw attack, Nessa put her hands on Melina, which made some of the spectators afraid.

"The devil girl is going to hurt the princess!" shouted a spectator on the other side of the world.

However, the people watching from the Sephyr Kingdom and End Town had a different outlook on the situation.

"You can do it, Nessa!" A villager shouted.

"Get our princess out of there!" Another followed.

When the image showed Nessa and Melina again, the spectators were speechless at the sight of the bleeding devil carrying the princess on her back along the battlefield.

Her wounds were visibly getting worse the more she walked, but Nessa was determined to save Melina, whom she considered her best friend.

’I just need to find a knight or a companion... Anyone...’ Nessa thought, her steps growing weaker by the second.
