Chapter 403: Ice Awakening

As Melina released a torrent of MP that froze everyone in a large radius around her in fear, Baelzor took a few preemptive steps back, leaving Nessa wounded on the ground.

A cold mist encircled the princess’ body. Her hair was completely crystalized, the blue of her eyes got much lighter, and her expression was as cold as her energy.

The icy winds that spun around her body started to cover a much wider area, freezing everything it touched in a flash.

"What are you waiting for!? Attack her!" Baelzor shouted at the greater demons in the vicinity, who were perplexed at Melina’s demonstration of power.

However, as soon as two of the demons rushed to get to the princess, they were frozen solid in an instant without managing to get as close as five meters to the woman.

*Snap!* Melina snapped her fingers, shattering the frozen demonic figures into glittery dust.

The ten-meter demon powered up even more, the mere energy coming from his body destroying the structures around him, and pointed his palm at the princess before releasing a projectile of hellfire.

Melina stood still on her spot, raising one finger towards the massive fireball coming her way, shooting a thin, cold beam that went through the fire and dissipated it before landing.

Baelzor avoided the freezing beam from hitting his face, but the brief moment he took his eyes off the princess was all she needed to surprise him.

Turning his head back around, he widened his eyes when he saw Melina hovering right in front of him, waving her arm to the side and releasing an arch of massive ice spikes that flew straight towards him.

Baelzor covered himself with his forearms and endured the attacks, which made Melina notice that his skin had gotten much tougher, as her ice couldn’t pierce it.

The devil cast a spell that produced different demonic pentagrams to appear around him, glowing with arcane magic that produced a black, eerie mist.

As the shadows surrounded his body, Melina could tell that his constitution was getting even tougher. Still, she was only getting started.

The princess looked at her right hand, which seemed more pale than usual, opening and closing her fingers as if she was getting used to her transformation.

It was the first time that Melina awakened without using lightning magic as her base, but her past experience allowed her to control it much better this time around.

When she fought Vyrazul, the moment of desperation allowed her to summon Phelena’s lightning spear. However, she didn’t have those same feelings when fighting Baelzor.

With his power-up spell completed, Baelzor let out a deafening shout as he launched himself at the princess with a deranged expression, high on his own energy.

Melina calmly closed her eyes, making the moment last a bit longer for her, finding herself before the figure of a tall woman with sky-blue hair.

The princess couldn’t detail the face of the stranger, but her mere presence was enough for Melina to deduce who it was.

Suddenly, the figure of the woman dissipated, revealing a radiant hallway with weapons hanging on the side like decorations.

On the left, Melina spotted a large, double-edged sword, extruding energy that felt like the "moon magic" that Ichiro and Yoru would often use.

A few steps away from it, she saw an archer’s bow that was seemingly made of pure flames, and while Melina hadn’t seen that weapon in person, she had heard Ichiro talking about it.

It didn’t take long for her to pass by the lightning spear she used against Vyrazul, making the princess speed up her pace, curious to see what the ice weapon looked like.

At that moment, she saw the end of the ethereal hallway, sensing ice magic coming from it.

When Melina got closer, she was able to detail the weapon, which seemed to be a little too big for her to wield.

Nonetheless, she confidently placed her hands on the handle, bringing the entire illusion to an abrupt end.

*Shink!* The sound of Baelzor’s claws being sliced could be heard right as he was about to catch the princess.

As the massive devil raised his arm back, his hand had been entirely severed, making him splash black blood all around the area.

From the cloud of dust and smoke, the figure of the princess in her ice awakening state looked even more intimidating, as she was now holding a massive, double-handed axe, which emanated a freezing cold energy.

’I didn’t think I would be strong enough to wield it...’ Melina thought, spinning the massive axe around with one hand.

The devil was wholly perplexed. Not only had his defenses gotten overwhelmed, but the princess was showing more physical prowess than he expected.

Holding his bleeding arm, Baelzor started to regenerate his lost limb, only to get interrupted by Melina, who jumped high in the air and crashed down on him.

The devil managed to barely avoid the attack. Still, as soon as Melina landed on the ground, her axe strike produced a wave of ice spikes that rose from the ground, covering a cone area at least 10 meters in front of the princess.

Baelzor broke one of the spikes closer to his legs, raising his gaze and finding Melina hovering in front of him, waving her axe to the side and slicing off one of his horns clean.

Each time that Melina waved her weapon, an icy breeze would shoot out and freeze anything it touched, making Baelzor take preemptive measures once again.

"I wasn’t supposed to use this until later, but you leave me no choice..." Baelzor muttered, gritting his teeth.

The devil raised one palm where a shadow materialized on top of it, producing what seemed like a strange relic to appear in his hand.

"Time to end this..." Baelzor continued, squeezing the relic in his hand and shattering it.

In less than a second, Baelzor’s entire body was covered in red veins that glowed quite brightly, giving the princess a sense of discomfort.

Not wanting to let the transformation continue, the princess waved her axe and launched a massive freezing arch at the monster, but her magic was deflected by an invisible shield that appeared around him.

A moment later, the ten-meter devil had grown to be double its previous size, with a completely different appearance as his body was now covered in black shadows.

In Melina’s eyes, a devil’s human transformation was no different than a normal person. Their devil forms could be a little scarier, but it wasn’t anything she deemed displeasing.

However, Baelzor’s new form was something that she wouldn’t have even seen in her nightmares, looking more like an evil entity than a devil.
