Chapter 406: The Wonders of Necromancy

As Drakzen and I exchanged a few words, we were interrupted by a sudden blast of MP that came from the city, which I instantly recognized as Melina’s.

"Hmm, Baelzor won’t last much longer, it seems..." Drakzen muttered.

"Well, I still need a bit more time, so I suppose I’ll have to entertain you," he continued.

Nevertheless, I wasn’t trying to be entertained. In fact, sensing Melina’s power on the other side of the city made me eager to finish the entire fight.

Drakzen levitated a few meters above the ground, releasing a massive torrent of demonic energy that covered a wide area around him.

When I detailed his surroundings, I noticed that there were different skeletal monsters and demons being summoned. However, one thing that seemed strange was how I couldn’t feel any signs of life from the creatures.

I could understand why the skeletal monsters wouldn’t have a heartbeat, but the demons he summoned were as tall and burly as a greater demon, with the only difference being that there was no life in them.

"Necromancy is amazing, don’t you think!?" Drakzen shouted, releasing even more of his demonic energy and summoning dozens more of the creatures.

"Controlling corpses? I don’t know about that..." I replied, levitating to get on his same level.

"Heheh..." Drakzen chuckled. "It’s more than just corpses," he continued.

The devil explained that necromancy was able to control souls and bodies, so he wasn’t locked to a single type of summon.

"Is that why you were hoarding the corpses of those Accursed Beasts?" I asked, making him chuckle again without responding to my question.

"You see... I wanted to give all of you a nice family reunion," Drakzen muttered.

"Callisto, the Rock Dragon... You are the only one I’m missing, Ichiro..." the devil continued.

I already knew that Drakzen used his necromancy to bring the bear called Callisto back to life, which sucked since he used to be Athena’s partner and Apollo’s father.

He also used his magic to bring back the Rock Dragon, who was still fighting fiercely against Fuego in the skies.

"ICHIROOOO!" the voice of a man echoed in the sea of summoned dead demons.

’Huh...? I recognize that voice,’ I thought.

*Stomp, stomp, stomp* The loud footsteps reverberated as a summoned demon pushed his comrades to the side to get to the front.

When I was able to clearly look at the monster standing before me, it took me a few seconds to recognize his face.

"You piece of shit! You are the worst son anyone could have asked for! It was all your fault, all your fault, all your fault!" the ugly demon shouted.

The creature had two small but spiky horns on his head, ashen white skin, red glowy eyes, and was tall but somewhat skinny.

I instantly recognized the monster’s voice, and when he finally stood before me, I felt as if the entire world had gone mute.

The sound of the distant battles and the explosions in the sky caused by the dragons was wholly silent to me.

’Did Drakzen want to make me angry? Did he think I would hesitate? Did he believe this would break me somehow?’ I thought, my expression cold and uncaring.

"It was all your fault! You made me kill your mother, YOU!" my father’s vessel said, breaking the serene silence in my mind.

At that moment, I remembered my encounter with Armaros, the first devil I ever killed.

When he died, he showed me a vision from my past life of my dad entering my mother’s home and shooting her in the chest before running away.

I wasn’t there when that happened. In fact, I never even knew it happened since I had cut off all communication with my parents at that point.

"Drakzen..." I muttered, almost whispering as the rage I felt got more prominent.

"Did you think this would break my spirits...?" I asked.

"Heheh... I know you are stronger than that. I just want to torment my rival!" Drakzen replied.

"I see..." I said, sharpening my gaze and releasing almost all of my MP into the air, generating a heavy and intimidating pressure around the undead demons.

When my father’s vessel ran towards me with a deranged expression to attack, I took a deep breath and focused on my power.

’It’s time...’ I thought.

As my body began to awaken using gravity magic, a purple aura appeared around me, generating a force that pushed away anything that got close to me.

I had awakened using gravity magic before, but it ended up being an incomplete transformation.

When either Melina or I used our awakening, we were able to borrow one of Phelena’s weapons from her armory, which matched our magic.

However, Phelena didn’t have a gravity weapon, so it was something that I would have to create myself to complete the transformation.

I held my bo horizontally before me, shrouding it with the gravity magic that coursed through my body, and focused on turning it into a weapon.

Thankfully, the magic bo was able to assimilate to my magic with ease. It didn’t change shape or form—all it did was create a purple orb at the top, turning it into a staff.

Right as the staff fully formed, my father’s vessel kept struggling to breach the gravity wall that protected me, yelling all sorts of nonsense that I had wholly stopped listening to.

With my eyes sharpened, I gazed forward and pointed the orb atop my staff at my father and the undead demons behind him.

"Don’t show your face to me ever again..." I muttered.

In the blink of an eye, a sonic boom reverberated in the air as a powerful force was shot forward from my staff, pushing away all of the undead demons around me and making their limbs burst into pieces.

Honestly, I felt more powerful than ever before, and now that Drakzen had managed to make me even angrier, I was eager to destroy him.

"Aww, that was cold of you... And here I wanted to let you see your old family!" Drakzen exclaimed, releasing his demonic energy as he slowly transitioned to his final form.

A few seconds later, we were floating in the air with the heavy gravity magic surrounding my body.

Meanwhile, Drakzen’s appearance had undergone a significant change, as his body seemed to be coated in shadows, and his large wings looked like black flames.
