My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 419: The Dwarves and the Titan
Chapter 419: The Dwarves and the Titan
As our boat got closer to the walls protecting G’Henna, our group was coming up with a way to lower the wall to allow the ships with our armies to enter the country’s waters.
Obviously, using magic was our best bet, but I wasn’t sure if lowering such a massive structure would have some sort of repercussion on the sea, and as I kept thinking, we began hearing a loud rumble coming from far away.
*Boom, Boom, Boom...* The loud sound echoed in the air.
"What the hell is that?" I pondered aloud, seeing the water getting more turbulent by the second.
"Umm, Ichi...?" Melina said, grabbing my shoulder and turning me around, where a humanoid figure could be seen standing very far away from us.
We couldn’t tell exactly how far the thing was, but we could tell it was immense just by seeing his entire upper body standing tall in the middle of the ocean.
*Boom, Boom, Boom...* The sound kept thundering, and when the massive figure became clearer, we realized it was the World Titan.
"I-it really is moving!" I exclaimed, my eyes widened in pure shock.
The waters started to get violent the more the titan approached us, and since the other boats would be arriving at the area soon, I had to stop them from advancing even further, or we would get casualties before breaking through the wall.
After explaining my worries to Melina, she nodded in understanding and said that she would fly toward the other boats to stop them from advancing, at least until we figured out the whole deal with the titan.
Meanwhile, I flew towards the massive humanoid figure with Ovi hugging my shoulder, and after ten minutes of flying at high speeds, the size of the titan in the distance barely changed.
’How big is this thing!?’ I thought.
I had seen the World Titan resting against a mountain, sure. But the titan was sitting down, so it looked smaller when I first saw it.
I couldn’t see his legs since they were underwater, but his entire upper body was out on the surface, so thinking that the titan was walking in the deep ocean was pretty shocking.
It took me a little over twenty minutes of flying as fast as I could to reach the titan, who resembled a mountain coming from the bottom of the ocean, and as I hovered above the turbulent waters for a moment, I looked up and began flying upwards to the head.
As I went up, I passed by the titan’s chest, and I heard a group of people calling me from the inside, prompting me to look around and see that there were windows on the giant’s chest where the dwarves were peeking from.
"Oi, Sage Ichiro!" A dwarf shouted as he waved his wand.
When I got closer to the window, the dwarf kept shouting from the other side, telling me that they couldn’t open the hatch, but there was an entrance at the head of the titan.
Giving the dwarf a nod of understanding, I kept flying upwards until I reached the head.
It was absolutely massive, and it looked as if the titan was wearing glass visors, which seemed a bit futuristic for this world. Of course, it was a design made by Sage Alejandro, and I was sure he was some sort of comic artist in his past life.
Still, the visors on the titan’s face weren’t just for looks. It was also a glass panel that allowed the dwarves inside to see all of their surroundings.
After I hovered before the hazy glass panel for a moment, it suddenly unfogged, and I could see seven dwarves running around the command room, which was the entire head of the titan.
One of the dwarves pointed his finger up, signaling that the entrance was at the crown of the giant’s head, so I quickly made my way there and found a door that looked like the hatch of a submarine.
The entire body of the World’s Titan was covered in different rocks and minerals, and I could tell it was stronger than most metals in this world.
When I spun the hatch’s lock and opened the incredibly heavy door, I jumped in and entered the command room of the titan, where seven of the best engineers in Durinhold were working hard.
"Eh!? What do you think!?" said a dwarf whose voice I recognized, prompting me to turn around.
"King Skadan!? What are you doing here!?" I asked, a bit shocked at seeing the king of the dwarves himself inside the machine.
"How could I not!? I can’t just stay in my castle when we are about to make history!" The king exclaimed.
Truthfully, I didn’t really have a problem with the king being there. I was simply surprised. There were other rulers who were also joining the war, so it wasn’t strange for others to show up.
When I explained to the king that the titan’s advance was disturbing the sea too much for our boats to safely get closer to the wall, the king raised an eyebrow and placed a hand on his chin, delving into his thoughts.
"And how are you planning on taking that thing down?" The king asked.
"I heard it was raised with magic, so I was thinking of doing the same to lower it..." I replied.
"Hmm, but have you thought about the repercussions of that?" The king continued.
’Repercussions?’ I pondered as I tried to consider them before getting diverted by the titan’s arrival.
If the wall were connected to the bottom of the ocean floor, then it would mean that the waters inside the wall were contained within the continent, and lowering the walls would release that water, elevating the sea levels.
However, if the wall somehow didn’t touch the seabed, it wouldn’t have such a destructive outcome.
It was most definitely going to affect the flow and currents, but raising the water level could be quite dangerous, especially for seaside villages or cities.
Acknowledging the dangers of destroying the wall without knowing this detail, I asked the dwarves to give me an hour to check the bottom of the wall beneath the water. That way, depending on how it was built, we could plan accordingly.
