My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 430: The Living Flesh Staircase
Chapter 430: The Living Flesh Staircase
Halfway through the staircase leading to the fifth floor, I noticed that the floor, walls, and ceiling were covered in strange tissue, which looked like living flesh.
Honestly, it was a bit nasty to look at. The flesh palpitated like a heart, and there was a potent scent of blood in the air.
Before I kept moving, I tried using fire magic to burn the flesh. I started with a small flame that dissipated almost instantly, so I increased the power and shot out a massive fire wave that covered the entirety of the staircase tunnel. Nevertheless, the living flesh was utterly fireproof.
When I thought about trying the same using ice magic, Frost stepped up and asked me to leave it to him, and considering he was the Ice Dragon, I didn’t see a reason to deny him.
Frost simply pointed his finger forward, aiming at the living flesh before us, and a freezing wave shot out that made us shiver for a moment.
Not even two seconds later, the entire fleshy structure had been frozen solid, making the staircase look like the inside of an ice castle.
It was a bit slippery, so I hovered a few centimeters above the floor so as not to trip. Still, After I advanced a few meters into the frozen flesh, the ice forcefully shattered, making me use wind magic to cover myself from the shards.
The living flesh seemed to be immune to ice magic as well. It did freeze for a few seconds, but it was clearly not enough.
Now that I was surrounded by the disgusting tissue, I felt a sense of danger and decided to move quickly, using wind magic to propel myself through the staircase without touching the slimy flesh around me.
As I flew straight through the tunnel, I noticed the flesh on the ceiling warping and generating a demon-looking arm with a palm the size of my entire body, making me slightly deviate to the side to avoid being grabbed.
However, right after passing by the first one, dozens of demon arms started coming out from the flesh. Some of them had claws, while others looked like tendrils, which made it harder for me to evade.
When the way forward was fully blocked by a wall of arms extruding from the slimy tissue, the lightbulb atop my head lit up with an idea.
We had already tried burning and freezing the flesh with magic, and considering that the entire castle itself made our magic a bit weaker, I thought that the flesh must have had some sort of anti-magic property.
"Let’s try physical damage..." I muttered, knowing that Yoru could hear me from my shadow.
As one of the arms with claws extended and tried to grab me, I waved my bo and smacked it to the side. My bo was made of wood from the arcana trees, which could deflect physical attacks pretty effectively. However, it could also absorb and store MP.
The moment I deflected the first arm with my bo, I could sense a bit of MP being absorbed, and I deduced that whatever was creating the flesh wasn’t using demonic energy but the same type of MP that I used.
"Yoru..." I called my companion, making him materialize out of my shadow.
Since Yoru didn’t want to touch the slimy surface around us, he used wind magic to create "steps" of solidified air, allowing him to stand and run without touching the ground.
"Here, use this," I continued, grabbing the mithril dagger I had concealed behind my back.
Yoru didn’t turn into his humanoid form since most of his attacks were laced with magic, so he stayed as a wolf and held the dagger in his mouth, with the blade to the side, pointing forward.
When we both prepared ourselves, we stood still for a brief second before bolting towards the wall of arms.
Each time one tried to grab me, I used my bo to either smack it or simply protect myself. The deflect effect was doing wonders against it since it not only protected me but also pushed back the arms with force, making it so that they couldn’t attack me more than once.
Beside me, Yoru waved his head to one side and sliced any arm that tried to harm him. I could see that he was using wind and lightning magic to make himself faster, and he stopped the flow of MP from going all the way to the blade.
Yoru was well aware that mithril weapons had anti-magic properties, and trying to lace them with MP was a waste of energy. Still, I was pleasantly surprised at how much his MP control had grown.
After cutting down numerous fleshy arms while moving forward as fast as we could, we spotted the light at the end of the staircase, and we could see a humanoid shadow standing in the middle, slightly blocking the light.
The closer we got, the more I could feel magic flowing from the presence ahead of us, and I noticed that it was their MP that was powering the fleshy structure.
"Yoru!" I exclaimed, and I didn’t even need to give a full command for my companion to understand, prompting him to bolt forward even faster than before.
A few arms came out of the flesh and tried to stop him, but I flew beside him and deflected them away. By the time we reached the exit, Yoru used the weight of his whole body to wave the dagger, slicing the head of our opponent.
Not even two seconds passed before the fleshy structure began to turn into dust, and when I looked at the culprit’s corpse, I realized it was a type of demon I had never seen before.
It seemed like the demon was wearing hooded robes, and they were skinny, almost like a skeleton.
As the body disappeared along with the flesh, I glanced at the fifth floor and was quite shocked by the view. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
We were located at the very top of what seemed like a colosseum. All of the seats around us were filled with demons who were watching two other devils fighting in the center of the arena.
Some of the demons spectating saw me, but they wholly ignored me as if they just wanted to watch the fight.
"-The hell is going on here?" I muttered to myself, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
