Chapter 431: Hell-Ring Arena

After Yoru and I reached the arena on the fifth floor, we waited a few minutes for the rest of our team to catch up to us.

Since we had killed the strange hooded demon that was responsible for controlling the living flesh on the staircase, it didn’t even take them more than five minutes to arrive.

When Melina saw Yoru and me standing there, she increased her speed to ask why we weren’t moving. She expected to arrive to see us fighting against countless demons, but instead, we were just inspecting the entire area.

Still, once she got up to our level and saw the whole arena filled with devils, she also stood still for a moment, raising an eyebrow in confusion.

"It’s a Hell-Ring," Nessa interjected as she arrived at the fifth floor.

Jackson elaborated and explained that a Hell-Ring was a structure created for the entertainment of devils.

Most demons lacked emotions and empathy, like Jackson and Nessa, so they didn’t have many ways to entertain themselves in their realm.

Even if they were introduced to the concept of "sports," it wouldn’t have mattered to them, as all they wanted to see were two powerful demons fighting to the death.

At first, I wondered why there was an arena in the tower, but then it started to make more sense to me.

The devils used the entire castle of G’Henna as their own kingdom, so it wasn’t too far-fetched to think that they would try to rebuild the same type of structures they had in their realm.

The entire castle was massive enough to hold the population of a whole country—a small country, sure—but still a country nonetheless.

"Why are none of the demons attacking us?" Melina asked, looking around and seeing the devils ignoring our presence.

"They probably don’t want to interrupt the event..." Jackson replied.

Our redheaded friend kept elaborating, and he told us that Hell-Rings were usually under the command of an Archdemon, who were beings powerful enough to be considered next in line to become a General, which was Jackson and Nessa’s rank.

As Jackson explained the devils’ hierarchy to us, the next match in the arena was starting, and it caught my attention when I saw a humanoid demon who was at least 15 feet tall (4 and a half meters) entering the arena.

The demon was bald, with two small horns protruding from the top of his head. He had one large eye, and his body looked chiseled and robust.

"A cyclops?" I wondered aloud.

"Ah, you know what those are?" Jackson asked back, looking surprised that I recognized the type of demon.

Technically speaking, I had never seen a cyclops before, but I knew what they were since they were a common monster in fantasy tales from my previous world.

Before I could answer, the cyclops’ opponent entered the arena, and it looked like the same type of greater demon that we had encountered in the past. However, this one looked slightly taller, around 12 feet tall, and his large horns made him look even taller.

When the two combatants were inside the Hell-Ring, the devils spectating around us began cheering loudly. They wanted to see blood, and as their yells got louder, I noticed the cyclops looked a bit strange.

I thought it was my imagination at first, but the cyclops seemed to squint with sadness when the spectators started asking for blood.

The greater demon raised his arms and hyped up the crowd even more while the cyclops stood still, nervously fidgeting his fingers. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

"Umm... Does that demon even want to fight?" I wondered.

Still, right as I asked, the greater demon turned his attention to the cyclops and rushed to attack him, raising his claws with ferocity and letting out a loud warcry that echoed in the arena.

The cyclops took one step back, but it seemed he took it out of fear, shutting his eye for a brief second before opening it and letting out a blinding purple beam that hit the ground in front of him.

As the cyclops raised his head, he moved the beam along, and it traveled all the way forward to the other side of the arena before dissipating, showcasing the greater demon sliced in half.

The crowd was silent for a few seconds, erupting into loud cheers and maniacal laughs, but the cyclops didn’t look happy about his win.

"Hey Jackson, what did you say would happen if someone interrupts the event?" I asked as the devils around us kept yelling.

"They would probably get placed in the arena by force..." Jackson replied, stopping for a moment and turning to look at me.

"You don’t mean...?" He continued, but all I did was grin as I had an idea.

When the second opponent for the cyclops entered the arena, I saw that it was a black demon, which looked pretty much the same as the greater demons, except that their skin was a dark obsidian color.

The black demon was holding a large club as his weapon, and the moment he bolted forward to attack the cyclops, I was already flying to get closer to the Hell-Ring.

Pointing my finger at the rushing black demon, I gathered a vast amount of MP and turned it into fire, shooting it straight and creating a fiery trail that looked like a laser.

As the spell made contact, the black demon’s torso imploded before getting fully encased in flames, and all of the spectators turned their heads to look at me.

"Booo! Obstruction!" the demons shouted, and some of them even started throwing rocks at me, so I used air magic to create a barrier around my body that deviated all the stones away.

"Punish him! Kill him!" They kept shouting, but when I looked at the cyclops, he was just confused.

Suddenly, a beam of black light came down from the ceiling and encircled my body, but I didn’t feel any pain or damaging effects from it.

"Ichi!" Melina shouted, making me turn and signal with my hands that I was perfectly fine.

In the blink of an eye, the light beam teleported me from my position and placed me inside the area, standing a little over 20 meters away from the cyclops.
