Chapter 432: The Cyclops, Trachios

After interrupting the fight between the cyclops and the black demon, I was whisked away and placed inside the arena by a mysterious magic.

The combat space was quite ample—at least ten times the size of the court we used for the mages’ world tournament—which made sense, considering that most of the devils fighting here were huge.

The demons spectating were cheering loudly for the cyclops to kill me, but when I locked my gaze with his one eye, I could swear the monster looked sad.

"A human...? How?" The cyclops muttered.

"Well, it wasn’t easy..." I replied, grabbing my bo out of caution.

"Do you have a name?" I continued, relishing the opportunity where the cyclops felt like talking.

"Trachios..." He replied with a somber tone.

The cyclops’ voice was a bit deep, but it wasn’t as foreboding as some of the demons I had met in the past. In fact, it was kind of soothing in a strange way.

"Let me ask you something, Trachios... Do you enjoy fighting in here?" I asked, taking a few steps closer to him.

Trachios widened his eye in shock. "Y-you are asking me if I like it...?" He asked back.

"I don’t see anyone else in this arena," I replied, prompting Trachios to clench his fists.

"I hate it... I hate it so much..." he said, breaking his gaze with me and looking down at the floor with a defeated tone.

The moment I heard him say that, I could tell that Trachios was one of the rare cases where demons were born with emotions.

Watching his encounter with the first demon made me suspicious since he looked apprehensive about using his strange eyebeam, but now that I was able to exchange a few words with him, it became clear.

"Heh, it’s your lucky day, my friend..." I said, making the cyclops raise his gaze.

"I’m destroying this entire place soon. If you want a more peaceful life, then join us," I continued, giving the monster a slight smirk.

The shouts of the spectators were getting louder the more impatient they got. Nonetheless, Trachios and I kept having a quick chat in the center of the arena.

"D-destroy this place? But... you are a human!" He replied, clearly underestimating my abilities—though I couldn’t blame him for it, seeing that he was three times my height.

When I explained that I was planning on getting to the highest floor in the castle and the arena was in our way, Trachios took a step back out of fear. "That’s where our king resides..." he whispered.

Noticing that the demon was unaware of what my team and I could do, I turned my attention to a large gate on the opposite side of the arena, which was the entrance to the staircase going up.

"If I open that gate, what’s gonna happen?" I asked.

"Th-The Lord of the Hell-Ring would intervene..." Trachios replied.

’Good...’ I thought, pointing my hand at the iron-looking gate and accumulating a vast amount of MP that made the energy obtain a purple-ish color.

Without uttering a word, I released an orb of gravity magic the size of a football, which traveled straight toward the gate. When it made contact, the sphere disappeared for a second before making the entire structure implode into pieces—completely opening the way to the staircase.

Trachios looked shocked at the amount of power that my spell was packing, and the spectators went silent after the explosion, knowing that the encounter would get interrupted by their "Lord."

As the smoke started to dissipate, I sensed demonic magic traveling toward me, so I quickly took a long step back and avoided a bolt of black lightning that seemed to come from the ceiling.

"Insolent human!" A raspy voice echoed, making the demons who were spectating freeze up in fear.

When I looked up, I saw the figure of the Archdemon, who was supposed to be the Lord of the Hell-Ring, descending into the arena with two large bat wings behind his back.

His body had a humanoid form, but it was almost as if it was fully encased in shadows and black electricity, so there weren’t many features I could distinguish from him—other than his two red eyes glowing brightly.

He reminded me a little of how Armaros looked. Compared to the other demon generals, Armaros looked the least human, as his body was covered in shadows, and this Archdemon wasn’t that much different.

"You would dare mess with my event?" The Archdemon asked, and while I thought of a cheeky reply, I sensed another torrent of demonic energy coming our way. However, it wasn’t aimed at me.

The Archdemon turned his head to the side, only to be met by Nessa punching him in the face with pure ferocity, blasting the demon away, and making him roll on the arena’s ground.

"Long time no see, Anaris..." Nessa spoke up, her knuckles still extruding a bit of smoke from the intense punch.

I was planning on dealing with the Archdemon myself, but Nessa jumped down in the arena just to attack him, and she knew his name as well, so it was a bit obvious that they had some sort of history together.

"Nexa... So, your betrayal is true," Anaris said, slowly standing up from the floor.

"Shut up..." Nessa replied, her voice and tone leaving no room for negotiations.

"You were meant to stop these events after our deal. You betrayed me first, you bastard..." she continued, and I got a small gist of what was happening.

None of the spectators said a word, and they didn’t panic either. They all just stayed put in their place with expectant faces.

Trachios fell on his rear from the surprise of seeing Nessa crashing down on the arena, but compared to how the other demons looked at her with utter fear in their eyes, the cyclops seemed to admire her.

"Ichiro... I’ll end this quickly," Nessa said, gazing at me with determination.

I would have offered my help, but she looked like she wanted to solve her problems on her own, so I just nodded and allowed Nessa to do whatever she wanted.
