Chapter 435: The City of Eternal Night

When the elevator reached its destination, the obsidian stone door opened up widely, inviting us into the 15th floor of G’Henna’s castle.

We didn’t know what to expect since all the previous floors that we had seen were pretty similar—at least in terms of how they looked, so when the door opened, we were very surprised by the change in scenery.

The 15th floor was a town with tall buildings that were made of silver-colored stone, which looked quite different in contrast with the obsidian stone that formed the entire tower.

As we looked up, we noticed that the ceiling had been replaced by an artificial sky, and the only reason that we could tell it wasn’t real was that it was supposed to be daytime, but the sky above us showed a pitch-black night.

Arashi, Frost, and Vespera went ahead and separated from us, scouting the area on their own while we walked through the desolate streets of the town on the 15th floor.

"Are there no devils here...?" I pondered aloud, gazing at Nessa and Jackson to see if they knew something. Nonetheless, the two of them were as clueless as me.

The only illumination we had came from the fake moon above us. Even so, the town looked relatively clean. Of course, there was a lot of dust, but there were no signs of marine life ever growing there, which was something we could see on all the previous floors.

There were no corals, algae, sand, or dead fish—nothing, so I wondered if the 15th floor had been completely locked from the outside environment all this time.

After walking by a few edifications that resembled small family homes, we found a much bigger building that had a sign out front. However, we couldn’t understand the letters written on it.

"Starry Inn..." Jackson and Nessa muttered in unison.

"Wait, you guys can read this?" I asked, slightly shocked.

Jackson explained that when a devil was given the title of General for the Demon King, Xalathas himself would give them a few different abilities that could help their cause, and for some reason, they had received the ability to understand the ancient language spoken by the old residents of the Lost Continent.

They believed they received that ability in case the civilization on the continent was still active, but considering all of G’Henna had no signs of life other than the demons in the tower, it was almost useless for them to have that ability.

"I see... So, this was an inn," Melina commented, peeking inside the wholly empty building.

One thing we noticed while walking around the town was the size of the houses, which were at least twice the size of a normal-sized home in any other city.

After walking and exploring the abandoned town a bit more, Vespera returned to our group, saying that she had reached the tallest tower on the 15th floor, but she couldn’t go inside.

The town on the 15th floor was so big that it literally had another tower inside, soaring above the rest of the town’s buildings.

Strangely, I could feel something radiating MP from the top of the tower, so we decided to check it out before moving forward to the next floor.

When we got close enough to the entrance of the tower, Frost and Arashi were waiting for our group, saying that the door wouldn’t open even after being struck by their magic, so they believed there was some sort of mechanism that opened it.

Once again, we couldn’t read what was written on the sign next to the tower, so Nessa and Jackson did us a favor.

"Moon Spire - All moon mages from the City of Eternal Night welcome..." They read.

"What the hell is a moon mage?" I pondered aloud.

"City of Eternal Night?" Melina continued with another question.

This was the first time anyone in our group had heard of this place. Not even our companions, who were hundreds of years old, so we deduced that the "City of Eternal Night" must have been a very ancient town that was forgotten in history.

We didn’t even know if it was meant to be its own country, or if it formed part of the empire that once ruled the Lost Continent.

In the current days, mages were able to cast spells from all different kinds of elements, but I had heard that, in the past, mages would focus solely on the magic that they had a better affinity with. Still, I had never heard of someone who specialized in "moon magic."

Next to the entrance, we spotted a small column that had a silver sphere in the center. I tried rolling the orb with my hand, but it was stuck in place, so it didn’t move a single inch from its spot.

"Ichiro... Why don’t you try using that ’night magic’ of yours..." Jackson suggested.

Night magic was a type of magic that I had learned from one of the sages’ books, and I had slightly developed it further during my time in this world. However, it used the stars and the moon’s energy to cast spells, so I wasn’t sure if it would work with an artificial sky.

Technically, it was still daytime outside G’Henna’s castle, which meant I couldn’t tap into the real energy from the night sky. Nevertheless, there was no harm in trying.

When I tried accumulating the energy from the fake moon and stars above us, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it worked. It wasn’t as powerful as the real sky, but it could still do some damage if I wanted it to.

As I transferred the energy into the silver orb, it started rapidly spinning while generating a loud hum that echoed in the vicinity. A few seconds later, the entrance to the Moon Spire opened automatically.

"Well, I suppose we’ll take a quick detour for now..." I said to my group, who seemed quite eager to check out the inside of the tower.
