My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 449: Exponential Doubling of Demons
Chapter 449: Exponential Doubling of Demons
After my group defeated the two primal demons, we made our way to the 83rd floor, and my suspicions about the increase in enemy numbers seemed to be correct.
There were four massive primal demons wandering around the level, which only took us a few more minutes to defeat. Even if their power level and size were the same, their numbers were still manageable.
Once we were finished, we moved to the 84th level, where we had to fight eight primal demons, and they were so large that the durable buildings in God City were inevitably getting demolished during our encounter.
The number of primal demons kept doubling for every floor we completed, and by the time we were done killing thirty-two primal demons on the 86th level, we decided to take a small break and recuperate our MP.
"Do you think the next floor will have sixty-four demons? Seems excessive, considering their size..." Melina commented, chugging an MP potion.
"If the same pattern of doubling their numbers keeps going, then we would be fighting 256 primal demons on floor 89..." I replied after doing the math, and the number sounded quite intimidating.
Our team wasn’t having a problem taking down the primal demons, but that didn’t mean that they were not powerful. Honestly, we were pretty overpowered compared to the other groups in G’Henna’s castle.
Still, fighting over 250 primal demons wouldn’t be nearly as simple. If any other team had encountered these levels before us, they would have gotten wiped out.
After replenishing our MP and eating lunch, we continued to the 87th floor and were shocked when we realized that our suspicions were correct. There were sixty-four primal demons wandering around God City.
These demons were so massive that they had nowhere to hide since they were taller than most buildings, and as I looked at the scene, I felt as if I was watching a kaiju movie with giant monsters destroying a city.
At this point, everyone on our team was using advanced spells to kill the demons quickly. If we focused on taking them down one by one, we would’ve spent the whole day fighting them, and we wanted to get to the 90th floor before sundown.
Using light magic, I shot a beam of light from the palm of my hand that traveled through four demons’ heads, prompting their bodies to plummet to the ground and destroy even more of God City before they turned to dust.
Destroying their hearts was also a viable option, but I believed that the head was easier to target as I could shoot at it from any direction, and it was easier for the primal demons to protect their chest.
When we took down the last primal demon on the 87th floor, I took a deep breath to relax and drank another MP potion with my companions.
The next two floors we needed to beat had more primal demons than all the other levels we had completed combined, so being at full power and stamina was a requirement for us.
Truthfully, we could have gone to the next floor and defeated the 128 demons awaiting us without replenishing our power.
However, not fully comprehending how the demon generals were moving around G’Henna’s castle, we didn’t want to give them an opening for them to attack us while we were low on MP.
Our strategy was to keep ourselves at full power so that even if we were ambushed by the demon king, we would be able to protect ourselves.
When we entered the 88th floor, more than half of the city was shadowed by the looming figures of the giant primal demons.
There were 128 of them, so we hesitated to advance for a moment as we came up with a strategy to take down as many of them as possible before they all targeted us.
Since the obsidian outer walls of the tower reduced our magic’s efficacy, we knew that we would have to use a lot more MP than usual to produce a spell powerful enough to kill large groups of them.
I had a gravity spell in mind that I wanted to try, but since I had never used it before, I was a bit afraid to cast it with so many of my allies nearby, so I changed strategy and decided we would use a combination of hot and cold to blow them up.
Considering that we had the Ice Dragon with us and Melina’s ice magic was unmatched, they were in charge of cooling the entire area. freёweɓnovel.com
While we stayed by the entrance of the level, both Frost and Melina generated a chilling mist that traveled around the 88th floor until it covered most of the area.
As the mist cooled down the city, some of its particles gathered in the center, creating a giant ice crystal that hovered beside some of the primal demons.
At this point, the primal demons were able to detect our magic and started wandering around the city to look for the source, prompting me and Vespera to step in.
The ice crystal was slowly getting bigger, and when a few primal demons tried to destroy it with their fists, the freezing air that was produced prevented them from striking it.
I told Vespera to cast the hottest spell she could think of, and as we both focused and aimed our palms forward at the ice crystal, I felt a strange surge of energy coursing through my body.
"Ovi...?" I pondered aloud, gazing at my shoulder where the baby dragon had been sitting all this time and noticing that his body was faintly glowing red.
The baby dragon still couldn’t speak to me or use telepathy, so our interactions were mostly based on a series of nods and signs. However, for whatever reason, I understood what Ovi wanted me to do at that moment.
As Vespera charged a flame in her hand that was so potent it turned blue, she gazed at me and widened her eyes for a moment when she saw obsidian particles set ablaze, hovering above my palm.
"Ichiro, is that...?" Vespera asked.
"It’s lava," I replied, generating a liquid flaming ball that was slowly getting bigger the more MP I charged it with.
After a few seconds, when the primal demons spotted us flying near the entrance with our flaming spells and started moving toward us, we released our spells and struck the massive ice crystal in the center.
Right as the projectiles made contact, we were instantly blinded and deafened by the explosion, which cooled down the lava so quickly that it blasted obsidian shards that wounded the demons further away.
The shockwave even struck both Vespera and me, pushing us back against the wall with force and prompting me to use a barrier so we wouldn’t get crushed by the pressure.
When the explosion died down, I was pretty satisfied with the result since we had taken out more than half of the primal demons, and the rest were wounded, so it was a matter of finishing them off.
’Time to clean up and keep moving...’ I thought, drinking an MP potion, knowing that the next floor would have double the amount of demons again.
