My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 452: The 99th Floor
Chapter 452: The 99th Floor
After my team defeated the strange-looking devil on the 91st floor, we all drank an MP potion to recover and moved on to the next level.
The demon we found on the 92nd floor was similar to the previous one, but instead of having long and skinny extremities, this one almost looked like a golem, as its body was covered in rocks and minerals.
Nevertheless, our team was too strong to be delayed by a single random devil, so we managed to take care of it in less than two minutes.
The devils in the gauntlet were much more powerful than the primal demons we had defeated before, but since we only had to face one of them, it felt easier.
Moreover, the devils from the gauntlet didn’t speak or show any kind of emotion, which made me believe that the demon king was simply trying to waste our time.
While we fought the devil on the 94th floor, Ovi started to actively participate in the battle by flying off my shoulders and shooting small, flaming lava projectiles at the demon.
Honestly, I thought it was kind of adorable how the baby dragon did his best to help us in battle, and while his projectiles were small, the lava burned through pretty much any material without a problem.
Still, after every fight, Ovi would return to me and sit on my shoulder, which seemed to be his favorite spot.
On the 98th floor, we encountered an ancient demon who could stretch parts of his body and possessed a powerful regeneration ability, so any time we severed an arm or a leg, it would quickly grow back.
It was slightly annoying at first, but our team knew how to deal with quick regeneration—All we had to do was completely destroy the demon in one attack.
Using lightning magic, I shocked the demon and halted his movements, allowing the rest of my team to unleash their spells without worrying about our enemy evading it.
After we took down the last demon of the gauntlet, we recuperated our MP with potions and prepared ourselves for the next level.
Honestly, I wasn’t nervous during the entire ordeal in the Lost Continent, but now that we were one elevator ride away from getting to the top and meeting the Demon King, I couldn’t help but feel slightly intimidated.
I knew that I had more power than Drakzen at that point in time, but Xalathas was supposed to be his superior, so I had no reference to how much stronger the demon king was compared to his strongest general.
There was no staircase leading to the 99th floor. There was only an elevator cabin that was pretty spacious, and before my group activated it, we took a quick rest and made sure that we had some backup plans in mind.
Our main target was Xalathas, but I still considered Drakzen to be our biggest problem, and Agares’ actions were unpredictable, which meant we had to be extra careful during the battle.
Surprisingly, Jackson agreed with me and said that Drakzen was too cunning, so we shouldn’t underestimate him just because we were fighting the Demon King.
When we were done resting, we took a deep breath to calm down our nerves and entered the elevator.
Our party at that point consisted of Vespera, Yoru, Ovi, Arashi, Frost, Jackson, Nessa, Melina, and me.
It was nine against three, so our odds were definitely in our favor. Still, that didn’t calm any of the nerves and doubts that our team had in their hearts.
The elevator took a little over five minutes to take us to the next floor, but I couldn’t tell if the 99th floor was simply way higher than the others or if the elevator was moving slowly.
When we arrived, a pair of massive double doors made of obsidian stone opened for us, and I stepped inside first to ensure that there were no traps in the entrance.
The room was pretty large—probably around two hundred meters in diameter, and the ceiling was similar to the ones we saw on the fields and forest floors, which created an illusion of the sky above us.
In the very center of the room, I saw the portal that the demons had been using to teleport to our world.
It looked like a spinning vortex with a pitch-black center and strands of red energy around it, which is almost exactly what I pictured a portal would look like.
Because of the portal, I couldn’t see what was directly behind it, and as I took a few steps to the side, I spotted a throne and a demon sitting on top of it.
The silhouette of the demon was much bigger than the throne, but right as my eyes focused on the target, I felt a chill running down my spine.
All of my senses were shouting at me to hide, run away, and protect myself, but my body was frozen in place from the sheer potency of the Demon King’s aura.
I could tell that the demon was extruding more of his eerie energy on purpose to intimidate us, and honestly, it worked. When I turned to look at my team, they were all frozen in fear, just like me.
"Come closer..." A deep voice spoke to us from the throne, prompting me to take one step forward.
"Those who can’t even face me do not deserve to be here," the demon continued.
Fighting off the fear and urge to run away, I kept walking forward towards the throne, peeking behind me every few steps to see how my team was doing.
Surprisingly, while we were all sweating and clenching our teeth from the struggle, everyone on the team managed to advance, passing by the portal in the center and giving us all a better look at our enemy.
The wall behind the throne was a long, clear glass panel that showed a sea of clouds slightly beneath our level, so it was obvious we were pretty high up.
As the demon on the throne slowly stood up, I noticed that he was quite tall—at least 4 meters high. His skin was dark grey, and his lack of top clothing showed us his defined muscles.
His undergarments seemed to be weaved with shadows, resembling some sort of warrior skirt, and his two L-shaped horns were sharpened like blades.
On top of his head, between the two horns, the demon had a thorny black crown, so I supposed that this was our main target—The Demon King, Xalathas.
