My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 453: The Demon King, Xalathas
Chapter 453: The Demon King, Xalathas
When my group and I finally reached the 99th floor, we slowly walked past the portal in the center of the room to talk to the Demon King, who had been patiently waiting for us at the top. freewebnøvel.com
Besides the pressure that Xalathas’ body produced, the portal also extruded an eerie and foreboding aura that made it more difficult for us to stay calm.
"Two sages, two traitors, and five beasts...? I suppose that’s enough," the demon king commented.
"Nexa, Jaterno... You’ve done well. Come to my side now," he continued, his tone deep and imposing.
I didn’t turn my head to look at Jackson and Nessa since I felt like taking my eyes off the demon king was dangerous, but I could still sense their fear.
"No..." Jackson muttered, sharpening his gaze.
"I’m staying here!" Nessa shouted, clearly mustering the bravery to speak aloud.
Xalathas expressed his disappointment in his two generals, but he knew very well that the pair would refuse to join the side of the devils again.
With a snap of his fingers, the demon king called his two subordinates to join us, prompting Drakzen and Agares to stand on each side of the throne beside Xalathas.
While I was aware of how dangerous Xalathas and Agares could be, my eyes were mainly set on Drakzen.
I mean, technically, I didn’t know Agares or the demon king before the war, so my hatred for them hadn’t really fermented at that point.
Drakzen, on the other hand, had been annoying me for years, and my body was urging me to attack him as quickly as possible while he looked down at us with his stupid smirk.
When Xalathas made a comment saying that he didn’t want to waste any more time, the portal in the center of the room made a loud booming sound, prompting my team members to turn their heads with haste.
Even though I was also startled by the sound, I could sense that nothing was coming out of the portal, so I kept my gaze fixed on the demon king.
"What did you do?" I asked coldly.
"I’m merely bringing my servants," Xalathas replied.
At that moment, we heard an incredibly loud roar coming from outside the tower that made the entire structure shake for a brief second.
From the glass window panel behind the throne, we could see how the sea of clouds started to darken, making me wonder if they had summoned another Primal Demon.
As if Xalathas were reading my mind, he replied to my thoughts and said that a titan should have an opponent of its size.
"Don’t worry about my pet. I just brought it to play with yours..." Xalathas commented.
Jackson, who was standing next to me, whispered the words "Hell Titan," which made me a little nervous since one titan was already destructive enough.
"Heheh, I’ll explain..." Drakzen interjected, confidently taking one step forward.
"You see, a very long time ago, there was a Demon King who was defeated by a sage. One of the main reasons he won was thanks to the World Titan..." Drakzen explained.
It seemed to me like he was talking about Sage Alejandro, the guy who created the World Titan with the dwarves and also sunk the Lost Continent under the sea to prevent the demons from invading the entire world.
After the demons suffered a great loss, their armies were returned to hell, but the more intelligent devils began working on their own countermeasure for the World Titan.
In other words, the demons had been waiting a little over a thousand years to use their cheap copy of our titan.
As Drakzen kept talking, I received a message from the dwarves inside the titan, saying that there was an emergency and they needed to start moving.
Of course, I allowed the dwarves to do whatever they thought was necessary since I didn’t want to restrict their movements in times of urgency, and right after sending the message, the entire tower shook violently again.
Then, I received another message from Sage Devon, telling us that the two titans outside were clashing their fists, and the shockwaves generated from their attacks were compromising the tower’s integrity.
The titans weren’t as tall as the tower, but they were pretty close. Still, we couldn’t see any of them from the angle at which the window panel on floor 99th was directed.
A few seconds later, I received messages from all the teams who were inside the tower, reporting that more hordes of demons had appeared, so they were going to take a bit longer to go up.
When I noticed that Xalathas was silently casting another spell that felt similar to when he brought the Hell Titan, I pointed my finger at the demon king and shot out a fiery beam to prevent him from finishing the cast.
Right as the fire made contact, it produced a small explosion that shrouded Xalathas for a second. Simultaneously, I felt a strange energy calling me as if trying to attract my attention.
’This energy feels familiar...’ I pondered.
As the smoke around the throne dissipated, I could see Xalathas’ silhouette still sitting down as if nothing had happened. Nevertheless, I expected that would happen, so I focused my attention on the strange energy calling me.
’Is that... the gem-link?’ I wondered, taking the multi-colored stone out of my pocket and witnessing how it was pulsating lights of different colors.
Somehow, I could sense the gem-link giving me instructions, and when the devils gazed at the stone in my hand with curiosity, I turned around and threw it like a baseball toward the portal in the center of the room.
Melina was taken aback for a second, thinking that I was randomly throwing the gem away. However, the gem didn’t go through the portal when it made contact with it.
Instead, the gem swirled around the vortex and glowed brighter, letting out a deafening sound that resonated like a deep trumpet.
After a quick flash blinded our sight momentarily, I looked back at the portal and saw the gem-link hovering above it, glowing with different colors.
’That should stop the influx of devils... Hopefully...’ I thought.
