Chapter 223: To Your Eternity

(Sometime ago)

Dora and Midgard were alone in a classroom, brooms, mops, and washcloths in front of the board.

The boy was busy wiping the chalk off the dusty blackboard while Midgard took a few selfies and looked at them proudly.

After a final effort, the chiffon fell from Dora’s hands and landed on his face.

With a large white spot on his face, he groaned and turned around as the flash of a phone’s camera hit him.

"Damn... Why did you ask them to leave if you weren’t going to help me?"

Midgard took a few more photos and compared them to keep the best one.

"This is the part of the show where the two lovers spend after school together in class cleaning up, we don’t need more people... Ah, this one is perfect for my blog...upload!"

She giggled on her desk, Dora wiped the dust from his face and retrieved the cloth.

It had already been a long time since they started a new life as students and, little by little, Dora found some peace of mind and got used to this little time with Midgard.

It was a peaceful reality where he could forget his past life and all his past suffering. Here, nothing mattered anymore, nothing pressed him anymore, his only concern was getting up early to go to school and study enough to get good grades.

However, even with so few responsibilities, he could still find trouble with this girl who accompanied him, disrupting his studies and regularly making him late for his exams, but somehow, he didn’t hate it.

Both enjoyed this little life where no problems existed, and unlike their past life, Midgard was the troublemaker and Dora suffered from her actions, but he was never annoyed for a single second.

"Hey, Midra or Dogard?"

"Hmm?"

Midgard showed him her smartphone screen where he could see an image of him and her together in a frame covered in hearts.

"For the name of the blog I want to use the name of our ship, so which do you prefer, Midra or Dogard?"

"...What is a blog?"

"It’s like a vow to worship your greatness, my little soul mate, look what a cute duo we are in this photo."

She showed him a myriad of photos of their time since their arrival, already posted and receiving a ton of comments, from classmates’ teasings to adult’s praises.

Dora turned a little blue when he recognized among those praising some of the teachers he had met here.

"So what? The name of our ship?"

"... Not a dog."

"So Midra, you are choosing this to use my name first? As expected from my beloved boyfriend."

She sat down and was busy with her phone. Dora looked at her for a moment.

Everything was good, maybe not perfect, but better than certain parts of his memory that he forced himself to forget.

"Alright, I’ll finish the blackboard and the teacher’s desk, we can leave the rest, right? No one will...uh?"

A deep sound of footsteps, distant at first, gradually grew louder as they got closer to their room. Dora turned towards the door as Midgard sitting on top of her smiled.

Suddenly, the door was kicked open with a mighty kick, a new student standing at the front of the class with steam coming out of her mouth.

At that moment, time froze in the young boy’s mind. The student turned her blue eyes on him.

Dora’s jaw opened slightly, the strength of his mind and body merging to create a single sound coming from his mouth. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

"...Eli..."

The next moment, a fist appeared right in front of his face.

The light went out, and so did Dora. He stood up and right in front of him, Elizabeth was rubbing her fist with a smile.

"It was for being an asshole to me that day, and this..."

She crouched down in front of him and a cold feeling covered his reddened cheek.

Elizabeth held an ice pack to the young man’s cheek, a warm smile on her lips.

"...This is to apologize. Dora, I’m sorry for getting you into this whole mess."

Dora was completely speechless. His body had completely forgotten how to act, his eyes were hypnotized by the woman in front of him.

Long black hair, blue eyes, a strong smile showing all her teeth, and a violent attitude, there was no doubt about it.

"...Elizabeth?"

"Yeah... hm, I like that shocked face."

He widened his eyes, more surprised than ever. Two years ago, a tragedy struck the world.

The most powerful star in the world shone for the last time before going out.

Two years ago, Elizabeth Balder chose death over a life of struggle and her disappearance was the beginning of the Kingdom’s fall.

Many suffered her loss, and some even wished to die to not face it, but in that very moment, right in front of him, Elizabeth was perfectly fine. No injuries, not a ghost, this was the Elizabeth he knew, and because she had hit him, he knew she had the same state of mind.

"...How?"

"Hmm? Are you okay? You look like you saw a ghost." She smiled as she rubbed the ice pack on his face. "Yeah, huh... It’s me... I died a horrible, painful, humiliating death, and I came back to take you with me! HAHA!"

She stood up, raising her fist menacingly, but the boy at her feet was too deeply scarred to react.

She pushed aside a small sign and leaned toward him.

"Come on, it’s not funny if you don’t react... hello? I think this Dora is broken."

"Maybe you’re just too aggressive? I’d be scared too." Midgard headed towards them.

She took a small bandage out of her bag and applied it to Dora’s nose.

Midgard and Elizabeth stood together before him, looking at him with a teasing smile.

It wasn’t a dream, but now it sounded too much like a trap. Too much perfection was always a death trap.

With his head down, he finally admitted it.

"...What’s going on here? How is it possible that you two are...here?"

He was no longer able to lie to himself, with Midgard alone, he chose to accept it as a miracle, but a miracle wasn’t supposed to happen twice.

Sitting on the ground, the harsh reality hit him harder and now he could no longer ignore the obvious questioning.

"Midgard... You never told me why you were here... What is this place? Why are we here? Why is she here?"

Elizabeth and Midgard looked at each other, Elizabeth nodded to her comrade who crouched down in front of Dora.

"Why are we here? It’s simple, you already know... it’s because we’re dead."

She gently stroked his cheek, lifting his face to look at her.

"And you’re here...because you’re ’Dora’. I told you you were the biggest star, right? I didn’t just say that to cheer you up...Dora...I...I don’t know where this knowledge comes from but...I know that everything, literally everything in this world exists for and because of you."

"...How? What does that mean? Why...don’t you..."

He placed a hand on his head, a small pain turning into a severe headache hitting him.

"Who am I?"

He closed his eyes, images of many events resurfacing. One day he awakened his alpha form, that day he used a technique he had never learned but came out of nowhere. One day he was in a car, looking at the moonlight with Midgard, and then he looked down and the landscape had changed. He was surrounded by many people, he felt fulfilled, and very satisfied.

He knew how close they were, but the next moment he realized he didn’t know them. The Sin who knew his power, the fake who knew the meaning of his name, and himself who had memories from nowhere, all these thoughts swirled around him.

"No, not now."

Midgard’s voice brought him back to reality as she pulled his cheeks tightly.

"We said we’d enjoy our time together this time, we’re only at the beginning of the series and I don’t want any supernatural stuff."

"...What?"

She took him by the hand and stood together facing Elizabeth, turned toward the door.

"We can think about everything later, but for now, we take back what the world took from us. Dora, I have to show you one last thing, the most incredible blessing you have."

She led him to the door, Elizabeth following closely, they walked through the door and then, a gust of wind filled with sweet perfumes hit them.

Dora was left speechless as the landscape changed again. A few seconds ago, they were in an empty classroom, and now they were in the middle of a public park.

There were many details worth seeing, but one detail was too visible to ignore: the people.

On a bench, walking down an aisle, selling treats, or just playing, the park was filled with life, but life that was previously lost.

On a bench, two men were having a heated debate about the experience of a veteran and the talent of a young person, an old man, and a young man with mustaches.

Walking on a road reading a book, a young man with glasses passed a few meters in front of them, further on, putting on makeup and taking pregnant selfies with her friends, a girl with red hair, also in a school uniform, and behind them, her friend jumped on another creepy student who looked at them with lustful eyes.

Dora’s mind stopped processing, the scenery before him was too absurd to understand. An object hit him in the head, perhaps a good representation of what he was going through, but as the children reached him to retrieve their ball, his heart sank even more.

"Oh, sorry sir! Aren’t you hurt? It’s all Paula’s fault, she can’t play, Paula, come and apologize!"

The young girl turned to her friend who stuck her tongue out at her.

"It’s because you’re a cheater! It wasn’t a fault!"

She ran away, laughing at her friend, who grabbed the ball, ready to throw it to her.

"...Claudia?" Dora murmured.

"Eh?...Sir? How do you know my name?"

She turned to him with wide, eyes.

"If you don’t catch up with us, you’ve lost!" Paula screamed louder, running around with their friends. Claudia grumbled and quickly took something off her wrist before putting it on Dora’s hand.

"Sorry again sir, take that as an apology, um... also I’ll come back later to see if you’re okay so... don’t leave!"

She rushed to her friends and they screamed with joy. Behind, Dora was watching them and turned his gaze to the object that Claudia handed him: a gold bracelet.

Midgard gently grabbed his hand and looked at the horizon as well.

"Do you understand? All the owners of a soul stone you absorbed are here. Everyone, the Holy Knights, the students, the people... me and Elizabeth."

Elizabeth crossed her arms proudly.

"Yeah, but it seems like only you and I have our memories."

"I chose this option because I don’t want people to interfere with our new life. I also think it’s better that they don’t have regrets from their past lives. You don’t like it ?"

"...No, I also want to take advantage of this new life to live the life I always wanted, so let’s keep it that way!"

She stood to Dora’s left, the three of them were looking down at a park, and the bracelet on Dora’s hand began to spread heat melting his mind and creating another new facial expression.

Both girls looked at him with a teasing smile and Midgard patted his cheek.

"Looks like we’re really going to enjoy this life now, don’t you think, little lover?"

Beside her, Dora’s single tear was eclipsed by a radiant smile, his hand trembling as if the weight of the bracelet increased. It wasn’t a dream, it wasn’t a trap, it was the truth, a truth he was forced to accept but was willingly prepared to live.

(...Everyone I killed...Is it here? In this paradise?....Then mom...Wendy...uh...)

His smile slowly faded at this realization. The deaths of his mother and Wendy weren’t on him, he never took their soul stone either, it was simply impossible by that simple logic for them to be there if that was the only way.

But as soon as he figured it out, he noticed another anomaly.

(Wait...I didn’t kill Elizabeth...or Lisa...but they’re here...does that mean...maybe I just need to get a soul stone, even from someone who has already assimilated them? Yes... that could be it... but Thomas is there too... What’s the truth? Is that really that simple? I can save everyone... I can create a perfect world?... If I kill them all?)
