> "Kyle, where are you? I came to your room since Roby and Dan were pestering me to have lunch together all of us since it’s our day off today, but your room was locked. I tried to call you several times but every time it was disconnected saying you were out of network coverage. Where did you suddenly go on your own? Is everything okay with you?"

Quietly rolling his gaze at Stephan’s text on his phone, Kylian exhaled a deep sigh while turning his phone off. With a frown curved between his brow ridge, he held a contemplated gaze towards the murky sky while sitting at the doorstep of that thatched hut. Fiddling his fingertips, he continued worrying on his own.

’I bet Stephan must’ve been skeptical of me by now, especially if he realizes Zenith was also outside the campus today. I didn’t expect that we would have to stay the night here...but...it would be quite dangerous for both of us to trail down the mountain path. But...how would I deal with Stephan’s questions the next time we meet?

’Should I reply with an answer...but if I do that, he might insist on calling...and I can’t let him know about my location. If they happen to discover that I am together with Zenith now, they might get a massive heart attack. Damn... it’s so troublesome...’

Tossing the frown aside, while Kylian was massaging the frown on his forehead with his fingertips, suddenly he heard the sound of clouds rumbling, even though the sky was still quite clear.

His ocean eyes were filled with concern when he deliberately took a proper look at the sky and saw traces of a few black clouds, which hinted that it might start to rain anytime soon since Westport city always had a bad reputation for bizarre rain showers that would take place at any time or any moment.

"Damn...is it about to start raining now? But...where is Zenith? It had been already a few hours since he disappeared into that forest after throwing his tantrum. Shouldn’t he have come back already?"

Mumbling on his own with sincere concern in his low voice, Kylian glanced at those ripened persimmon and peaches that he had selectively picked from the huge garden widespread around the shrine, of course after taking permission from the middle-aged monk.

Being aware of the food habits of the spiritual monks, Kylian knew there wouldn’t be any possibility of getting a meal inside the shrine, since the monks do not touch any food past the sunset.

Thus, putting his own appetite before Zenith since he hadn’t eaten anything since morning, Kylian forgot to worry about himself and plucked those fruits from the garden to give them to Zenith after he came back so that his Alpha wouldn’t have to go to bed with an empty stomach.

After Zenith lashed out at him, even though at that moment he was irked by his stubbornness but later, listening to the elderly monk’s advice, Kylian could understand it was a very natural outburst of reaction if the situation was looked at from Zenith’s perspective.

He even started to feel a bit guilty for trying to push him away, especially after knowing the dark trauma of abandonment which Zenith had always carried in his heart until now after Zorina’s death.

So, considering every action to resolve the first argument after spending their first date day, Kylian had chosen those perfectly ripened sweet fruits for Zenith as a token of his apology once he would rightfully come back to him.

But it had been already a few hours, and when he still couldn’t see any sign of him, nor a whiff of his strong pheromones from far apart, Kylian’s wolf Morpheus sounded a bit concerned grumbling inside him.

~ "Wait, he didn’t return to the Academy on his own, right? Who knows if he had been too pissed off to come back here and left already? A dominant Alpha’s temperament is something you could never mess up with...so maybe that’s the case now!"

"Relax, Morpheus. Zenith won’t leave me all alone here in the mountains and go back on his own. I know that from my heart."

Kylian sounded quite self-assured from his tone, which startled Morpheus a bit hard as he tried to tease him a little, "Woah! Just a few days ago I was the one requesting you not to feel ambiguous about his actions...and here today, you sound quite reassured yourself, huh? Your Alpha must’ve really succeeded in breaking those cold barriers built around your heart, I see?"

"I am just doing what you had asked me to do before, Morpheus. I have put my faith in Zenith...because I know he won’t hurt me, no matter what happens. Even though the outcome of the ritual had made me panic hard, but I always knew, that Zenith was the only man in this whole world who could assure me that he would make me feel the safest, as long as he was with me."

While Kylian mind linked with his wolf, a blushed hue spread across his cheeks as he exhaled a lot of air with his slow, heavy breath. As if Morpheus felt quite pleased with his change of heart, he snorted at Kylian, "Wohooo, Zenith isn’t the only one being madly in love with you. "Alright, it’s not the right time to tease me when that troublesome brat still hasn’t come back." Feeling a bit shy from his teasing, Kylian scolded his wolf with a pouty voice before he averted his gaze ahead of him once again. His eyes were narrowed with concern, when he murmured on his own, "It looks like it’s starting to rain soon...so he should have been back already, otherwise he might catch a cold. I wonder...what’s taking him so long out there?"

~ "Have you tried calling him? Maybe he’s waiting for your—"

"I have already tried everything, Morpheus. But it seems like...his anger still hasn’t subsided yet." Kylian exhaled a deflated sigh with his expression that turned a little glum.

Sulking on his own, his ocean eyes couldn’t avert from the narrow path ahead of him as he murmured, "That punk wouldn’t even pick my calls, nor he would bother to talk to me. But it’s the first time I am waiting for someone like this, after I used to wait for Mom back at home. I am feeling quite hungry and cold as well, but I won’t touch anything until I see him back.

"I know he’ll come back to me on his own...but...this damn waiting period feels too long sometimes..."

Mumbling his vent on his own, Kylian leaned his head against the small wooden door while lifting his gaze down from the path, feeling a bit dejected inside. But his wolf tried to cheer him up using other methods, "Well, now that we know he’s our fated mate, so he’s bound to come back anyway. But since you’re also feeling cold, and you must be pretty worn out from all the trekking, so why don’t you get some sleep going inside, Kyle?"

"No, I will sit here and wait for him. I want him to realize I am his last stop...so that he would always return to me after a long tiring day." Even though Kylian’s voice and eyes looked a little glum, when he stubbornly denied Morpheus’s words, his wolf didn’t pester him anymore and went silent to let him get some rest.

Just as said, seated at the doorstep while tilting his head on the wood, Kylian didn’t realize when he was too exhausted to fall asleep almost immediately after he closed his eyes. But the strong winds blowing outside were freezing his whole body, since the mountain used to get way too colder than normal temperature during night time.

He didn’t realize when his hands and feet had turned into a block of ice, but still enduring all those painful cold chills alone, he stubbornly sat there at the door while waiting for his Alpha.

It was almost past 1 hour, when Zenith’s footsteps finally entered the province of the shrine, heading towards the direction where Kylian was.

But reaching an approximate close distance, when Zenith saw from afar that Kylian was there at the doorstep, shivering from cold and crouching his arms around his body, his heart thumped hard with concern as Zenith bolted towards Kylian in a jolt of flash.

Quickly wrapping his shirt around Kylian’s broad stiff shoulder, Zenith panicked hard, almost holding his breath to watch him frozen there, as he keenly asked, "B-Babe? What happened? Why are you sitting here? In the cold outside?"

"O-Oh?" Finally hearing Zenith’s voice after a long wait, and feeling the touch of his warm hands grabbing his body tight, Kylian blinked open his drowsy eyes and upon watching his anxious face as the first sight, a soft smile curved his lips when he murmured, "Welcome back..."
