Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]-Chapter 186 - Leaving the warehouse
Chapter 186: Chapter 186 - Leaving the warehouse
The warehouse was quiet, except for the faint sound of tape being torn and the rustle of fabric as the group prepared. Everyone had strapped themselves in tightly with extra bedding, bed sheets, and even cardboard boxes.
Hana’s body was cocooned like a clumsy present, cardboard wrapped around her arms and chest, her fingers barely visible.
She stared at her bandaged hand, turning it around slowly, then leaned forward and attempted to bite it.
Her teeth only made a small dent on the padding. She blinked, then grinned, proud.
"Awesome," she whispered to herself. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
From across the room, Qiu Yue watched her with a mix of exasperation and quiet amusement. He let out a long sigh, rubbing his temple. "I still can’t understand," he muttered, "why the hell are we leaving the warehouse in a hurry? That kid’s grandpa is coming, right? He’s like, what, an hour away? Why risk going out now?"
Yunfeng turned his head, tightening the straps on his own makeshift armor. His voice was calm but tinged with tension. "They don’t have powers," he said. "And... the route passes through the zoo area."
At that single word—zoo—Jai froze. His body began to tremble violently, eyes wide, chest heaving as if memory alone had sunk sharp claws into his spine.
Seeing his adverse reaction Qiu Yue furrowed his brows. "The zoo?" he asked slowly, his voice almost mocking. "What’s in the zoo? Monkeys?" He pointed casually to the tiny monkey clutched in the little girl’s arms.
"No," Yunfeng said quietly, almost too softly to hear. "Much worse. We’re not even sure what it is. But it’s huge... and powerful. I don’t want to face that thing."
His hand found Muchen’s cheek, cupping it gently. Muchen leaned into the touch without a word. Yunfeng’s other hand brushed against his belly, protective, tender.
"Stay close to me," he murmured. "Don’t run off, okay? I’ll protect everyone here. Just promise me you won’t overuse your powers."
Muchen gave a soft sigh and nodded. "I won’t," he whispered.
Nearby, the new guy—Zei—was glued to Jai’s side like a shadow.
Shao walked ahead stiffly, the tension in his shoulders making him look taller than he was. Lu Zhi stayed beside Zei, his eyes flicking to him and then at his brother weirdly.
"Does he... have a stomach problem?" Zei whispered to Jai, watching Yunfeng’s protective gesture.
Jai rolled his eyes, unimpressed. "You’re the one with the brain problem." Saying so he walked away.
But Zei only smiled and trailed after him like a hopeful puppy. "Cutie, come on! Don’t run away!"
Shao’s scowl deepened. His eyes narrowed at Zei and Jai’s interaction. Lu Zhi nudged his brother.
"He’s a nuisance," Lu Zhi murmured, "but I don’t think he has bad intentions..."
Shao didn’t look at him. "You said the same about your school friend. The one who gave betrayed us and tried to kill Hana."
Lu Zhi flinched. "But I trust my judgment," he said quietly. "Zei... really doesn’t seem like a bad guy." He jogged after Shao, who was beginning to pace ahead with a slight shake in his step.
"Everyone in position," Yunfeng called out at last, his voice solid now.
Shao and Qiu yue flanked the back. Jai, Hana, Yuki, Zei and Lu Zhi kept to the middle. Every person had some form of makeshift weapon—metal rods, shelf legs, sharpened brooms.
"Ready?" Yunfeng asked.
"Ready," came the murmured response.
He threw open the warehouse doors, and sunlight poured in like a slap.
The outside world had grown quieter lately.
The zombies had scattered, though a few lingered near the doorway, their groans low and guttural.
Yunfeng moved first. His blue flames erupted in quick bursts incinerating them at sight. His eyes didn’t blink once as he felled them.
Muchen’s sweaty hands clutched the gun shooting down the faster unpredictable ones. he took out before they even got close.
"let’s go!"
They ran. Fast. As fast as their legs could take them, breath ragged, lungs burning, hearts thudding wildly in their chests.
It was the same route Yunfeng had taken before
but this time, it felt different.
More dangerous.
Behind him, gunfire cracked like thunder.
Muchen was relentless—his hands shaking, fingers stiff, but he kept firing. Every time a zombie got close, he shot it without hesitation.
But the shots... they were too loud.
Maybe that’s why more kept coming.
Either way, they were being chased harder than ever before.
Yunfeng glanced over his shoulder once—and cursed under his breath. "They’re not stopping."
Then they turned a corner and skidded to a halt at a crossroad.
Zombies surrounded them at all sides.
"Shit..." Jai muttered, tightening his grip on a metal rod.
"Circle! Form a circle! Stay together!" Yunfeng yelled, already moving toward the front, blasting a few with his flames. "Don’t break formation!"
Everyone snapped into motion.
Hana gritted her teeth and swung her metal rod with trembling arms. Lu Zhi stabbed low. Shao went straight for the head. Even Zei, still new and clumsy, hit one hard enough to knock it off balance.
But they just kept coming.
"They’re not stopping..." Yunfeng’s voice dropped, breath shaky. He could feel it—his power fading. Bit by bit. "We can’t keep this up."
"We need a way out," Shao barked, smashing another skull.
"I’ve got it!" Muchen’s voice suddenly shot up.
And before anyone could stop him, he floated into the air, rising higher and higher until he was nearly three stories above them.
"Muchen!!" Yunfeng shouted, panic ripping through him. "What the hell are you doing?! Get down!"
"I can see everything from up here!" Muchen shouted back, wind whipping his hair. "There—on the left! An alley! There’s less zombies and there’s a huge trash bin. We can barricade the small alley! Yunfeng, clear a way!"
He dropped down fast—too fast. "whao!"
"careful!!" Yunfeng was already there, arms out, catching him just in time before his legs could hit the ground. He hugged him close while jai went up to protect them both inside the circle.
"Are you out of your mind?" he growled, hugging him tight for half a second before letting go.
"Had to do it," Muchen mumbled. "You looked ready to pass out."
Yunfeng just grunted and turned back to the horde. "Left! Clear a path!"
With a burst of renewed energy, he tore through the undead with a wave of fire. Bones cracked, skin burned, and a path slowly opened up. "Go! Now!"
One by one, the group surged forward. Jai hauled Hana up when she tripped. Zei dragged Lu Zhi along, both of them still swinging blindly. Shao and Qiu Yue covered the rear, slamming and stabbing anything that got too close.
Finally, they all poured into the alley, hearts pounding. Yunfeng turned and pushed the huge trash bin onto the entrance of the alley. Thankfully the bin covered the entrance completely and because it was huge the zombies could not jump over it.
It just bought them extra time to run to safety.
The sound of coughing, panting, someone crying softly filled the alley. A few dropped to the ground. Hana leaned against the wall, shaking. Lu Zhi was sweating profusely. Muchen slumped into Yunfeng’s lap, eyes closed but breathing.
"You scared the shit out of me," Yunfeng muttered, still catching his breath as he held Muchen close.
Muchen gave him a tired smile. "You looked worse. I thought you were gonna fall over."
"I was close," Yunfeng admitted quietly. He pressed his hand gently against Muchen’s belly, feeling for any movement. "But I wasn’t gonna let anything happen to you both."
