Chapter 49: " I’m Your Everything"

Kai stood near the college gates, eyes scanning the street. He was waiting for Bast, but something else caught his attention.

Eden was walking toward him—slowly, with his head slightly down. His eyes were red, clearly swollen from crying. Kai’s brows furrowed in concern.

Kai: "Hey, Eden. What happened?"

Eden looked up, startled by Kai’s voice. Kai walked to him quickly, inspecting his face.

Kai: "Are you okay? Your eyes... they’re red."

Eden forced a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

Eden: "I’m really okay. Just didn’t sleep well, that’s all."

Before Kai could say anything more, a sleek black car pulled up at the entrance. Eden glanced at it.

Eden: "Looks like your dad’s here."

Kai turned around, and his stomach dropped a little. Bast stepped out of the car, his face hard, eyes burning with restrained anger. Kai’s confusion deepened—what happened?

Bast didn’t say a word. He walked straight to Kai, his aura intense and unreadable. Without hesitation, he grabbed Kai’s wrist.

Bast (gruffly): "Let’s go."

Kai: "W-Wait, Bast. This is Eden, my friend—"

Bast turned his head slowly to look at Eden. His sharp eyes made Eden freeze in place. The forced smile on Eden’s face faltered.

Eden (awkwardly): "Nice to meet you, sir. You’re... Kai’s dad?"

But instead of responding, Bast suddenly wrapped an arm around Kai’s waist and pulled him close. Then, in front of Eden, he leaned in and kissed Kai firmly.

Kai’s eyes widened in shock. Eden stood frozen, his mouth slightly open.

Bast (coldly, to Eden): "I’m not just his dad. I’m his everything."

Without giving Eden a second glance, Bast dragged Kai to the car and opened the door.

Eden stood there, heart thudding in his chest, watching the two of them disappear..

Eden (muttering to himself): "Why is everyone kissing in front of me today? What a horrible day..."

Inside the Car

Kai sat in silence, occasionally glancing at Bast who gripped the steering wheel tightly, his eyes fixed on the road. The silence was suffocating.

Kai: "What’s wrong?"

Bast didn’t respond.

Kai (softly): "Are you mad because Eden called you my dad?"

Still, Bast said nothing.

After a long pause, Bast finally spoke—his voice low, eyes still on the road.

Bast: "I don’t care about that. It’s true—I am your dad. And it’s also true that I’m your everything."

Kai (quietly): "Then what’s the problem? Why are you acting so cold?"

No answer.

They arrived at a restaurant. Bast stepped out first, slamming the car door behind him.

Bast: "Let’s go."

Kai followed him quietly, sensing Bast’s anger still boiling beneath the surface. Asking questions now felt dangerous, so he kept his mouth shut.

During dinner, the silence between them grew heavier. Bast didn’t even glance at him.

Kai (gently): "Can you please tell me what happened?"

Finally, Bast looked up, his expression unreadable.

Bast: "Do you really care about me? Because to me... it feels like I’m just some old man trying to be close to you. And you... you don’t feel anything for me."

Kai’s heart dropped. The words hit him like a slap.

Kai (shocked): "Bast... what are you saying? Please, tell me what’s going on..."

But Bast just looked away and waved for the bill.

Back at Home

The car ride home was painfully quiet. Bast didn’t say a word. As soon as they arrived, he stepped out without looking at Kai and walked into the house.

Kai hurried after him.

Kai: "Bast, listen to me!"

But Bast ignored him and headed straight to his room, shutting the door behind him—and locking it.

Kai stood in the hallway, staring at the door, heart aching with confusion.

Kai (whispering): "What happened...?"

Kai stood outside the door, knocking softly at first.

Kai: "Bast... can you please open the door?"

No answer.

Inside, Bast sat on the edge of the bed, his eyes filled with sadness and disappointment. The sound of Kai knocking again echoed through the room. He rubbed his face with his hands, trying to steady himself.

After another knock—louder this time—Bast finally stood and opened the door.

Kai was standing right in front of him, worry written all over his face.

Bast (coldly): "Go to your room and sleep. I want to be alone."

But Kai stepped forward and entered the room without hesitation.

Kai: "It’s my room too. Did you forget?"

Bast (firmly): "Kai, I don’t want to talk. Just go."

Kai didn’t move. Instead, he threw his arms around Bast, hugging him tightly.

Kai (softly): "Please... talk to me."

Bast gently tried to push him away, but Kai held him even tighter.

Kai: "Please, Bast... tell me what’s wrong."

Finally, Bast spoke—his voice low, controlled, but heavy.

Bast: "What were you doing with Rico last night?"

Kai’s expression changed immediately—his body stiffened.

Bast (frustrated): "I told you not to meet him. But you did. You didn’t care about me, Kai. Why do you always do this?"

Kai (quietly): "I’m sorry, Bast... I just wanted to talk to him."

Bast (sharply): "About Miles, huh? So you trust Rico more than you trust me?"

Kai: "It’s not like that! Miles made me promise not to tell anyone about it. And Rico... Rico was the one who saved Miles that night. I just wanted his help."

Bast (angrily): "Kai... I can do everything for you! You don’t need anyone!"

His voice suddenly rose, sharp and powerful.

Bast: "I hate it when you get close to someone else. I freaking hate it, Kai!"

Kai stood frozen—his breath quickened, heart racing. It was the first time he’d ever seen Bast this angry. The words pierced deep into his chest.

Bast stared at him—and then noticed the tears silently sliding down Kai’s cheeks.

His anger faded instantly, replaced by softness and regret.

Bast (gently): "Kai... why are you crying?"

Kai (choking back tears): "I’m sorry... I didn’t mean to hurt you..."

Without another word, Kai turned and ran out of the room.

Bast: "Kai—!"

He rushed after him.

Bast caught up to Kai in the hallway and quickly grabbed his wrist, pulling him into a hug.

Bast (softly): "Kai... I’m sorry."

His voice trembled with emotion, filled with regret.

Bast (gently): "I’m really sorry for raising my voice... I didn’t mean to hurt you."

Kai slowly looked up at him. Bast’s face was full of remorse, his brows drawn, his eyes soft with guilt.

Kai (quietly): "Bast... I’m yours. You don’t need to worry about losing me."

He placed his hand gently over Bast’s chest.

Kai: "I’ve always loved you."

Bast closed his eyes and let out a long breath, as if releasing all the anger and fear that had built up inside. Regret washed over his expression—deep and raw.

He held Kai even tighter, silently vowing not to let his emotions hurt him again.

After that, Bast and Kai sat together on the couch. The atmosphere had calmed, but a quiet tension still lingered in the air.

Kai: "Bast... I need to tell you the truth about Victor."

Bast: "I know... how he abused Miles. Rico told me everything."

He looked away for a moment, his voice dark with fury.

Bast: "I killed Victor. After what he did to Miles... he deserved it."

Kai’s eyes widened slightly, but he didn’t look surprised.

Kai: "Miles is scared of losing Ethan..."

Bast (softly): "So that’s why he’s been so sad these past few days."

Kai nodded slowly.

Kai: "His life’s been really hard because of Victor."

Bast gently reached out and patted Kai’s head, his touch full of warmth and reassurance.

Bast: "You don’t need to worry about it anymore. I’ll handle that piece of shit."

Kai exhaled and leaned his head on Bast’s shoulder, his eyes closing in relief.

Kai: "Now I feel good..."

Bast kept patting his head gently, holding him close. But inside, his mind was still racing—thinking deeply about everything...

Kai’s head was still resting on Bast’s shoulder, comforted by the gentle way Bast traced his fingers through his hair. The room was quiet, filled only with the sound of their steady breathing.

Kai (softly): "Bast..."

Bast looked down at him.

Bast: "Hmm?"

Kai: "Why are you so possessive sometimes?"

Bast: "Because when it comes to you... I’ll always be possessive."

Kai smiled faintly, then asked in a whisper,

Kai: "What if... one day I disappear? What would you do?"

Without hesitation, Bast wrapped an arm firmly around Kai’s waist.

Bast: "I’d burn the whole world down if someone tried to steal you from me."

Kai’s smile deepened as he looked up at Bast.

Kai: "I’m not going anywhere. I’m always here—with you."

Bast met his eyes, those shining eyes that made everything else fade away. He gently traced his fingers along Kai’s cheek, his voice soft but certain.

Bast: "I promise—we’ll never be apart. We’ll always be together."

Kai leaned forward and kissed Bast’s cheek. Bast smiled, all the anger and tension from before melting away like smoke in the wind.

Then, he cupped Kai’s face and kissed him—deeply, passionately. Kai kissed him back, their arms wrapped tightly around each other, as if the world outside didn’t exist. In that moment, they held one another like nothing could ever come between them.

But what they didn’t know... was that something was already coming—something that would try to tear them apart.
